Colie's Walk-Off leads M Softball vs BGSU 12-2 in mercy rule win

Colie Sappingfield had a walk off grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead the Mochigan Softball team to victory against Bowling Green 12-2.  She finished the day 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and 5 RBIs.  What a wonderful day for Colie.  She has been struggling of late that this is just what the Doctor ordered for her.  Colie is not known for hitting home runs.

Sara Driesenga played one of her best games today against BGSU.  She was in the circle today and received the win.  She pitched all 7 innings.  She gave up 2 runs (1 ER) on 3 hits.  She walked 4 and struck out 4.

Sara was also a leader at the plate.  She went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs.  Chiddy also went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a run scored.  Lindsay Doyle went 2 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Overall we ended up with 13 hits on the day.  We had 1 error as well.  This game is certainly needed for a confidence booster.  Bowling Green is not a Top 10 team, but a win is a win.

Great Job ladies.  Keep up the good work.  Awesome Job today Sara.  We knew you could do it and we support you 100%.

BGSU isn't a great team, but they'll take advantage of any errors and were decent at the plate when I saw them play. Only letting up three hits is a good days work against them.

Im from the old school.  Rule #1. Beat the teams you are supposed to beat every single time.  Rule #2. Win 3 of 4 against those teams that are equal to your talent.  Rule #3. Win 1 of 2 games against teams that you are supposed to lose to.  If any team achieves this, they will be in the hunt all year long.

So a win is a win is a win.

And it's not like M can afford dropping games to the MAC.

Looking back at it, MGB let up four hits, which is less than I thought. They looked like they did an okay job at the plate despite mostly poor pitching and fielding, but I guess I was mistaken.

Yeah, yeah, I know.  Level of competition and all that, but they weren't getting runs earlier in the year against teams similar to BG.

isn't great, but they aren't terrible, either; they would have the third lowest ERA in the Big Ten right now, behind Minnesota and Michigan (and the MAC hasn't started conference play, so BGSU's schedule is probably equal to Generic Big Ten U at the moment). I'd say the hitting is encouraging even given that it's BGSU.

Edit: BGSU had an RPI rank of 86 last week, which would be ninth if the Big Ten added BGSU. Still, it's a better win than PSU (101) or EMU (147).

"seeing" the ball.  The pitching is great at the top and then good from about 10 through 100.  So the mere fact that we jumped out and smacked the ball around is a good thing.  It doesnt matter that it was BGSU.  The fact is we hit the ball against a good pitcher.

Justin as you pointed out, we could have layed an egg here.  We have played poorly aginst worse teams.  A win is a win.

MGB will join the NCAA rankings this weekend, since she broke the sixty inning mark on Tuesday. Coincidentally, her and Wagner have almost identical ERA and OB% numbers going into their current series. Hopefully both jump into the top-25, which is certainly possible if they play well enough.

Also, the girl starting for BGSU had an ERA of 1.52 (number fifty nationally) before the M game. Guess that's out the window after four earned runs in four innings...
