OSU is pretty likely to win 10 games this year, their offense is being led by a 3 year qb and coached by a guy who has pretty much never had a bad offense in his coaching career.  The OL has two first round talents, the wr's are pretty much all have elite athleticism and their probable starting rb is a guy we all desperately wanted.  On defense they have top tier dlinemen, maybe the best inside linebacker in the country and an nfl talent in gareon conley leading the secondary.

OSU is going to get more respect until we beat them on the field and that is how it should be.

I don't disagree that OSU will be playing in that range by the end of the year when the experience factor is less. The biggest X-factor for their season will be depth/health. They could be in trouble (relatively because BIG 10!) if Barrett and/or a few other key experienced leaders were to go down. I expect M to be in a similar situation next year....very young and talented but with a few key experienced leaders... although I doubt the preseason ranking will be as high.

Funny thing is living in florida, UF fans said the same "reload" garbage after the 2008 season when Urban brought in the best class of all time, everyone thought they wouldnt miss a beat with all the talent they brought in after Tebow and Harvin graduate.  They procceded to go 7-6 and Urban Myer quit on them at the end of the year!

While I disagree that Bo Pelini should have gotten fired at Nebraska, he wasn't fired solely because of one 9-4 season. Bo was fired because of 7 straight seasons of 9-10 wins with no signs of improvement, and multiple embarrassing blowout losses on nationally televised games. Urban on the other hand was not that far removed from three 13-win seasons including 2 National Championships and a BCS Sugar Bowl win. Also, I'd wager that the 2010 season would have finished a lot better than 8-5 if Cam Newton wasn't a kleptomaniac that got dismissed from the team and instead took over the reins from Tim Tebow. Many Nebraska fans I've talked too acknowledge that Mike Riley could very well do worse than Pelini, but they'd be happy as long as Riley can beat a "blue blood" program every once in a while vs. Pelini trouncing cupcakes and folding against decent teams.

These polls are all bias bullshit every year. The bucs are not #5. If Oklahoma even somewhat have their shit together on offense, they will destroy the tree worshiping-horses asses.

and girl puncher Hyde went to the NFL.  And surprise, it didn't fucking matter because Urban Meyer's offense is plug and play.  It's a simple offense with very little decision making that works as long as it has athletes.

I fully expect this team to once again be firing on all cylinders by the time November rolls around.

Under Meyer they've gone 12-0, 12-2, 14-1, 12-1 and finished in the Top 5 three out of those four years.  They pull in top recruiting classes every year - yeah, they're going to be a bit inexperienced early in the year but they're going to have more raw talent on the field then just about every team they play.

Is eerily similar to OSU prior to the start of the '14 season. Most of their top playmakers gone and a shitload of unporven talent set to start (Elliott, JT Barrett, Thomas, etc.). With that much raw talent, the coaching is the wild card and I think Meyer has proven he's good enough to win with young players (unfortunately).

That there are not one, but two comments made within two minutes of each other, both by shiny new accounts saying almost exactly the same thing talking up OSU. Very, very intreresting indeed.

I don't even disagree, but lets be honest here.

These are numbers reflective of where they see teams at the end of the year. Inasmuch as Urban is arguably the best coach in the game today - he has accumulated that winning pct at multiple venues - with Saban, utilizing NFL practices as far as business models has built an absolute wonderful business in T-Town, as its referred to down south.

OSU will be one of the top 5 teams in the nation at season's end, barring an injury to Barrett. It is not as if they are fielding a team made up of the 2016 commitment list.

But yes, by and large this is a useless poll but usually harmless. This poll should be discontinued at a certain point in the season for obvious reasons. It pisses a lot of people off in preseason and its always a good thing to have fans from opposing programs begin arguing early.

As for us being ranked in the top ten in Harbaugh's second season is a very good thing. It shows an amount of respect, and honestly with the qb position yet to be answered to be ranked any higher would not make sense. As long as fans realize this poll should be looked at just to initiate interest and get the arguments flowing, I see no real harm in it. Those who are overrated and those who are underrated will be obvious by game no. 6.

Agree with you there.  The coaches' poll is so ridiculous on so many levels.  All of them have a conflict of interest (duh) and none of them watch any of the games unless they are teams they will end up playing, and the poll comes out early on Sundays so do they think the coaches stay up all night bingewatching every game that was played the day before so that they can vote?  It is one of those things that is useless both in concept AND in practice.

I'm tired of being scandalously over-ranked in preseason polls.  I think it has the potential to lead to complacency.  (Obviously less so with Harbaugh than other coaches, but still.)

I'm hoping a ranking of 8 ruffles some feathers.  Let the team feel like they need to prove something.

Agreed. #8 is honestly exactly where we should be.

We finished last season #12, but return more talent than the average ranked team/have a tier 1 coach, so we should get a marginal bump and 4 spots seems about right.

We'll be ranked higher than Ohio State after week 3 when they lose to Oklahoma. I just hoped we're ranked higher than them after week 13.

Every year you're ranked at the beginning and it moves up or down from there depending on performance. They take that end of the season ranking into consideration when they create that preseason poll. The 2016 Preseason ranking is going to take the past season into consideration as the 2015 preseason ranking took 2014's into consideration. And on and on so technically the last decade is in play.

"With that much raw talent, the coaching is the wild card and I think Meyer has proven he's good enough to win with young players (unfortunately)."

"Considering the ridiculous level of talent they've recruited. Until Urban proves he won't win 11+ games per season, they will continue to get the benefit of the doubt."

"For some reason I thought that Wade was an OSU lean?"

"The catch-22 with that is Michigan's recent period of mediocracy.

A kid Wade's age may not have very strong memories of UM. I guess this would be on the staff to attempt evaluating young talent just a tad sooner... at any rate, can't knock the kid because the staff didn't see his talent in time. That would be like us M fans blasting on the kids we were able to haul away from OSU due to the Buckeye staff being bullish on their offer to said player."

"It's pretty clear that (sadly) OSU is clearly the most consistently competitive program in the AP era. There's really no question about it. The silver lining is that UM will only be better for competing with those dickheads. Look what we did to Florida after experiencing another OSU gam last year."

"The point spread between UM and OSU is massive. There's no point in attempting to twist the logic here."

"But 1-4 sounds right to me. It's painful to see just how good OSU has been over the last 80 years."

"I can only assume that Ohio State will be ruthlessly efficient with their zone read game... Until proven otherwise."

"Just a bunch of Michigan fans posting their feelings on this matter... no reason to tell us what we can or can't think and then subsequently post to this thread."

"While watching that game. No adjustments were made on OSU's part. It's as if they were protecting their star RB, while thinking that they had it in the bag the whole time... Up until MSU got lucky AGAIN and won with no time left on the clock. Bet Meyer won't stand by and let their OC do that shit again, because honestly (and this sucks to say) I think that OSU would have ran through OK, Bama and/or Clemson, thus giving them another damn title."

"It looks as if they actually may be MORE talented at that position that in 2014... Fuck that. How's that even possible?"

"Looking from afar, it seems to me that Meyer is OCD about the execution of his offense. Hopefully we have a man that is the same way about trying to slow down that same offense."

"That's what I thought at first until I realized that offense is as physical as ours, just ran out of different concepts. Make no mistake - That team down south is built upon a dominating O line and a bruising running game. Maybe Brown will have the answers."

"I think the argument can be made that Barrett is the top player in the B1G. The fiasco with the QB's last season kind of had them both off kilter, imo. Someone pointed out that JT broke a slew of B1G records in '14, so he has that going for him. Guess we'll have to see what he can do with a talented, but unproven squad this year.."

This is about a third of your comment history. You're not very good at this, are you?
