Completely agree. Since the Ducks have been subsequently shown to be lame, Sparty has beaten no one of note, and squeaked by several unranked teams.

Utah, meanwhile, has beaten what turns out to be a very good Michigan team and Cal.

I'd put Utah up against anyone at this point...and I'd love to see Michigan get a rematch in January.

On second review, it looks like they just swapped Michigan and NU's spots in the poll. If we take care of business this Saturday, it seems reasonable that they'll do the same :)

Who's got it better than us? Nobody...except maybe future (like next Saturday evening) us!

Allen looks to be very iffy next Saturday. The roll up on his already injured ankle knocked him out of the game last night just before the final score. Felt bad for the guy - he was obviously playing through a lot of pain before it got rolled on, and he couldn't put any weight on it as they helped him off.
I'd rather Sparty was at full strength for their spanking.

Because they don't watch the games and barely even know what is happening outside of their own conference and future opponents.  I guarantee most of the coaches voting here don't know anything about MSU except that they're 6-0.  They don't know who they've beaten, they aren't aware that the games have been close, they don't realize how many times they've been outgained.  They know they are 6-0 and that they had a good season last year and that's it.

Sounds right to me- too many undefeated teams at this point. Plus MSU will be tested soon and the coaches know this

Frankly Utah didnt look that good to me last night- gifted many turnovers and barely won

If we had either of our last 2 QB's in that game we would of won easily

I like Wittingham, but he has a bad habit of playing it way too conservatively. That, and I don't think Wilson is completely healthy amd they're still trying to protect him. They made him a drop back passer the whole game amd took away the zone read game that was so effective against us and Oregon.

I too thought we'd end up higher. Perhaps we will be in the AP. Coaches poll is garbage anyway, but considering how Harbaugh has pissed off many coaches by holding satellite camps in their backyards, I wonder if any grudges are be displayed in their ranking of Michigan. He's gotten so much pub, I'm sure there has to be some resentment from his colleagues.

This is why pre-season polls should be disallowed.

Zero people have OSU and MSU as having top 4 seasons to this point. Yet, no one wants to penalize unbeaten teams.

But in this case the preseason polls are probably going to help us if we win the remainder of our games. The longer OSU and MSU stay at the top, the better it is for us. I'm rootin hard for Utah every game and wanting OSU and MSU to win out except for their games against us. With 1 loss on our resume, we need the teams we beat to have good seasons.

We also need the other teams in between us and #1 to take a loss at some point before the season ends. Worst case would be to see 5 or 6 undefeated teams and then us trying to make a case for being in the playoff. Not sure that outcome is possible but would feel better to see all teams ranked ahead of us, except Utah, have a loss before the end of the season.

And coaches have too many biases, like wanting to boost their own SOS. Problem is that it clouds the data of everything that uses it. Realistically the No. 1 team should be Clemson, TCU, or Baylor but circular logic puts 5 SEC teams in the top 15 of every poll.

Of course the end of season is all that matters. So far Michigan has beaten two ranked opponents and faces their third on Saturday. I don't think anyone else in the B1G can say that right now.

How I know the coaches poll (and all polls in general) are crap:  There was someone who didn't even put Utah in their top 25

edit: Nevermind, all I learned is that I haven't properly learned how to read a poll in the last 30 years

These polls what survey coaches only gives us the current superficial impression of what many coaches are feeling.

Thanks to the CFB playoff, it is really simple - win out and we'll not have to worry about the polls - we'll be in.

If we don't win out, then we don't need to worry - we aren't one of the top 4 teams.

These writers/columnists/TV talking heads just need to fill column inches and minutes of air time. They really don't know - look at what many had as the final four at the start of the year; pretty laughable now.

Just basking in this glorious season. I wonder if this was what the 1969 Bo season was like.

Yes.  Bump left a lot of talent.  Several guys made the college football hall of fame including Dan Dierdorf.

Of course Bo developed that talent.

That said, Bump was a far better HC than Hoke was.

I've been praising Utah as much as anyone, but I don't think they or anyone finishes undefeated in the PAC 12.  I think they may well win the conference and are probably the best team in the conference at least for now.  But it's not hard to envision them tripping up at least once to UCLA, USC, Arizona, or the North champ in the title game.

If the PAC 12 champ has one loss and we run the table, I think we probably squeeze in ahead of them.  The one scenario where that gets a little fuzzy to me is if Utah is that one-loss champ  (because of the head-to-head loss) and/or Ohio State is not unbeaten prior to our game (taking away a little bit of the hype we would gain by knocking them off and ending the streak.)

I'd say it's the biggest game in recent history. You would have to go back to 2006 to find a bigger one since that was the last time Michigan played in a game with national implications.

Other contenders:

2012 vs. Alabama - It was early in the season, but a win would have made Michigan an NC contender

2012 at Ohio State - OSU was unbeaten but also banned from postseason play so it didn't really carry any national weight

2011 at MSU - Both teams ended up with 11 wins
