Coach wants you in your seats early

I am unable to embed, and for this I should be negged.  But there's going to be a special tribute to Lloyd Carr before kick-off for Nebraska.  Also, rally towels.  He'd like you to be there at 11:45

That was a direct response to Rick Leach calling him out on the radio. For a guy making almost $400,000 annually to help make the university and program look good, one public endorsement in two years (and one very glaring refusal to say anything during an extremely trying week) is pretty shabby.

BRCE's response sounds a little apologist-y, but it's accurate. JUB mentions Rick Leach letting loose on the radio, and says that it caused two responses from LC: he did the booth appearance in question, and he had a super-rare lunch meeting with RR (and Bill Martin and JUB, if I remember correctly - my 3&O is loaned out right now) in which he told RR, essentially: call off your dogs. (How Rick Leach is RR's dog, I can't imagine.)

JUB certainly doesn't try to dissuade the reader from thinking this reaction was too little, too late, too self-serving on LC's part, but for the skeptic, there's always the possibility that JUB needed a villain or whatever.

JUB's inferences are very much in line with what has been rumored for years. He could have created more of a villain in Carr than he actually did.

LC's "tell your camp to stop talking about me" comment is quite telling since that's what his mindset was at that time: camps. He had his own camp (Draper, Stapleton, former players, etc.) doing his own bidding in this game of shadows.

EDIT: Gotta love idiots who mark "flamebait" instead of actually debating the points.

This week, I saw DB speak a the b-school to a group of mostly students (and one old guy who asked if slippery rock is coming back to the big house), and he stressed being there on time, especially for Nebraska.  He kind of hinted at something really big before the game.  I have a feeling there will be some sort of surprise.

Get there early to hear Lllllloyd recount the events that he put into motion to destroy the careers of several West Virginia coaches and one athletic director. There will also be a comparison of Carr's contributions to college football compared to Joe Paterno's. Finally, a 30 second musical montage featuring Pop Evil set to video of the last 2 minutes of the Appy State game. Can't wait! I'm getting there at 11 so I can relive the Ron English defense of 2007 against Oregon too. Should be boss.

ugh, i'll be there at 12:15 just to be sure i miss the carr tribute.  i can already hear it.  "thanks coach for looking like jimmy stuart on the sidelines while moeller's players won the national title."

The "he won with another guy's players" argument is pretty tiring. I'm not sure Ron Zook wins the 2006 national championship if he doesn't get fired at Florida, but by your logic, Meyer just won it with someone else's guys so he totally pulled a Jimmy Stuart on the sidelines too. Right?

Carr won 5 Big Ten titles and got pretty close to a shot at the marbles in 2006; making him out to be some sort of Luke Fickell is a low blow and revisionist history.

Lloyd Carr won the first National Championship for Michigan since pre-Bo times. Can the man get some credit?

Lloyd Carr. He blew game after game for us with top notch talent. Don't tell me he won a national title blah blah. Anyone with any football intelligence would tell you from watching him coach he was a complete joke, got outcoached time and time again. He is a jack ass. Ruined my life for 10 years. Only because of Chuck Dub was I able to live right in 97.

Him as a coach. Put the film on. It's amazing how little people pay attention to the actual game of football. For instance against Iowa this year we were completely outcoached and not prepared from the kick. Pay attention people.
