No way to Vols says agent. God bless Angelique.
that is nice bonus change
No way to Vols says agent. God bless Angelique.
one stupid internet poster brings something up to see what happens and the panic it causes and now we have official quotes from his agent. this is a brave new world.
in the meantime, i give you this
does your cat stomp around?
He only uses this one camera angle....
Or some other charity. That would be bad, but this is good. HAZZAH!
The poster really tricked you with the wording of the headline. He's crafty, that one. Either that or you are slow. ;)
I initially read the OP title and I thought...hmmmm...you lose two seasons at Michigan and it's volunteer status for you. I figured MSC finally laid down the law and told him it was a Rose Bowl bid or no remuneration.
I am also slow
I thought it was a play on words. Particularly funny? No.
But I was more worried that the over/under on posts would be 5 on hearing "you forgot the 's', jackass"; like I didn't know what I was doing. So, don't feel stupid. You all at least got it and didn't think it was a typo.
I should know by now not to underestimate the MGoCommunity.
I was initially thinking that he shunned a soup kitchen or some other "Volunteer Opportunity" - and I was thinking 'What a Dick'
I was just teasing. You are only a little slow if you heard the crazy Tennessee rumor and then didn't make the connection with the poster's title. Just a little bit though.
god you are SO in love with yourself for not believing this rumor
Hmmm......I wonder if local sportswriters monitor MgoBlog on a regular basis. I haven't heard anything about it outside of here.
this in a comment on the RR-to-UT thread:
Mark May said on his radio station that he had heard Rich to Tennessee.
plus this in the article linked above:
Rodriguez, so the rumor on radio and Internet went on Wednesday, supposedly was seen in the Knoxville, Tenn., airport and would be the new Tennessee coach, replacing Lane Kiffin, who bolted for USC on Tuesday night.
However, Rodriguez apparently was on a flight from Orlando, where he had attended the American Football Coaches Association convention, and heading home when he supposedly was seen in Knoxville.
(. . . interviewing our new LB coach?) [Above emphasis mine]
The "Internet" might have been us.
..they link to mgoblog almost every day that anything UM is happening. They link to UMhoops a lot furing basketball season, too.
I thought I explained this earlier, he is going to ESU:
It's only a matter of time before the hire is announced.
we get it. you made an 'aha, i see what he did there' post. shut up. god.
...That's the last time I will mention it. I brought it up in one post of my own and then I commented on it in this thread. I just think it was such a ridiculous rumor. No need to be so pissed off about it. Perhaps I overdid it. If I annoyed you, then I apologize. It is the internet, you can always just ignore what I say.
edit: meant as reply to above
But I am not going to rail against the OP.
I do understand that this "No" means "No." And I can leave it at that. But did Tennessee really approach RR? Hell, if I was Tennessee's AD, I sure would have.
The OP related details that seem dubious; RR upset over Freep Jihad, warmer weather in Tennessee, etc. But the OP was relating second-hand info, by his own account.
Anyway; done. Dead. Rumor is killed. Rich Rodriguez coaches for Michigan. With some great recruits coming in, and with a bright future. And room in this class for a couple of hard-hittin' five-star guys from California. I'd honestly and sincerely suggest; if you guys have been dreaming about playing in the 2012 Rose Bowl, you're gonna want to be in a Michigan uniform.
...wasn't me. :-o I frankly think the guy who started it should get the banhammer the day U-T hires a new coach. Long standing or no, that's a lot more Trollish than all the "Rich Rod sux" stuff that drives people nuts. This could actually be harmful rumor mongering.
I wasn't referring to "M-Wolverine." I was referring to the guy in the other thread...
I'm grateful, as we all are, to M-Wolverine, for alerting us to the Chengelis/detnews.com story on this subject.
All the credit goes to the Angel. She did all the work debunking unnecessary nonsense. I just clicked on DetNews at the right time.
Mgoblog should have an annual MSM award for people like her.
is a bit convoluted, but maybe we should be registering in order to leave favorable comments on the article along the lines of "THIS is what responsible journalism looks like!" I'm on dial-up *derision noted* so I'm still in the middle of doing it myself.
Put it another way; if you come across something dubious but potentially earth-shaking like this, what would the responsible protocal be; maybe an e-mail to Brian explaining the sources, or what? The OP might have suspected that others less well-intentioned than him were already in possession of this explosive rumor. His (I'm picking one, there were actually two threads) presentation included the following:
I'm not saying it will happen, but that's the rumor going around. Anybody heard anything or have any thoughts on the matter?
I could see how one can see this as fishing for trouble, but I can also see it as a natural reaction to coming across alarming news. Sitting on it seems like a powerless approach; what is the proper response when you hear something like this?
I think you're pulling that from Magnus's thread on the rumor. I have no problem with that thread, discussing it, or throwing in 2 cents about it. Open discussion is what it's about. And my track record has always been to promote and defend unpopular speech here, argue it if you like, but let it be heard.
The posts Section 1 and I refer to is the one that was just thrown in a Kiffin thread, didn't just say it was a possibility, but that according to close sources he had in the U-Tenn Athletic Department that it was likely to happen, then drop all this stuff about how unhappy Rich was with his lack of support, his wife didn't like it here, yadda yadda yadda. And I said there, as here, that if it happens, or heck, we even find out that there were serious discussions, we'd bow to his source-y knowledge.
But as there were holes in the story at the time, it had the air of fabrication about it, and if that is the case, I see it as a far worse board crime, because as this article shows, it reaches into "reality". King of Belch's latest identity or whatever or whoever can be contrary, and annoying. But to put out rumors that gets picked up by the media, thus going out to recruits and everyone else that maybe he's leaving? It may be beyond reasonable, but in this coaching environment we have going across the country, who would blame some kid for believing it? And it only takes one.
I can't tell you what or how the rules on rumors should be. It's not my site, my place to say, and I get the feeling the situation is fluid. I can only say how I'd handle it. I know people and hear things, and frankly, unlike a lot in and around the Athletic Department, I hold those trusts. So I don't see me really breaking anything. I'll pass on information that is already out there, when it breaks, just bringing it to attention, or showing where to find it. What minor knowledge I have I may use for context after the fact. If I did hear something that I absolutely felt NEEDED to be out there, I would probably email it to Brian (and assume with his sources that he had heard the same). Then he'd either have enough evidence to run with it, or I might prove myself as reliable.
As I said, I don't seeing that happening, but that's probably how I'd handle it. YMMD.
Finally found the original post in question. Thanx for clarification on my misunderstanding about "poster" referenced.
I understand where you were coming from a lot better now.
As an aside to the post, the article mentions Randy Edsall as a TN candidate. Though I am all Blue I live in CT and like many here admire Randy Edsall and what he has done with that program. He is a class act and I would really hate to see him move "up" to something like Tennessee.
But if he could take the job today through, oh, say, mid-September, leaving their program a temporary mess, I'd be down with that.
is a "bad fit."
Hell, Tennessee, why not Mike Leach? Anybody following Kiffin ought to look like a puritan, even a guy with strange antics such as Leach. And he had a great run at TT.
I love Angelique. She scours these boards and puts the rumor mill to rest. TomVH and Angelique rule all that is holy.
