Coach "K" apologizes

Is it just me? How many others here are frustrated with the hero worship accorded Coach "K"? Yes, great recruiter, great program, great record but the inspirational, feel good leadership tripe is so annoying. Today, Coach "K" "apologized for his comments to the Oregon kid for hitting a meaningless 3 at games end in the Ducks win. Coach K outright denied telling the kid he was too good to be doing that. So he tried to make it look like the kid lied. Nice. Too bad for "Coach" , audio of the exchange surfaced today and the kid was right. Those comments, impugning the kids sportsmanship, were clearly made. "Coach" apologized for answering a question about the exchange "incorrectly". Huh! Incorrectly? He flat out lied. About a kids version of events. This from the "Coach" of such notables as Christian Laettner who stomped on an opponents chest and currently Grayson Allen, who deliberately tripped opponents more then once this season. Can anyone in the fawning media, I m mainly asking you, ESPN, ask " Coach" if he told his own players that they were too good for that? Give me a break!! Had to get this off my chest.

I'm more pissed that that his boosters have been allowed to buy him all the McDonald's All-Americans he wants, giving a guy who is already a great coach an advantage in talent on the floor in 95% of the games his team plays.

Follow-up: If you've ever wondered why Coach K and Duke get good press (out of proportion to their accomplishments, which *would* merit a lot of good press), check out the comments in this thread:

As disgusting as it may seem to some of us, Duke is America's Team to a segment of our population. I won't get into why that is. :)

Part of me doubts that Krzyzewski actually was complete aware of the time situation - why not take a shot with time left on the shot clock, not to mention time left in regulation? Mind you, it's a small part - I really don't put it past him to be the sort of person that would mask his irritation over the outcome in some silly lecture about sportsmanship. For everything he has done as a basketball coach, his ability to look supremely butthurt when things do not go Duke's way never fails to amaze.

If I remember correctly this is at least the second time Coach K has had to apologize for saying something he shouldn't to another team's player after a loss. The guy is a sore loser and it's pretty sad to watch.

I can't really take the guy seriously for calling out another player on his discipline when he won't even discipline his own players for blatantly tripping opposing players.

Great coach, one of the best of all time, but he's a hypocrite as far as I'm concerned.

It's pretty well known that he's just as dirty as Boeheim, Calipari, etc.. He berates players behind closed doors and puts on a show in front of the cameras. He's also been known to tear into the press, even the student journalists at Duke. His holier-than-thou act has grown old.
