Coach Hutchins Earns 1300th Win

Submitted by MGoSoftball on

Coach Carol Hutchins reached a milestone today by winning her 1300th game by defeating Penn State 7-4 in Not-So Happy Valley.  She ranks third all-time behind retired Cal State-Fresno coach Margie Wright who had 1457 wins current Arizona coach Mike Candras who has 1335.

Coach Hutchins is the most winningest coach in Michigan history and arguably the best coach.  She is certainly the most successful of all active coaches.

Sara Driesenga was the offensive and defensive hero today to help Coach.  Sara was the starting and winning pitcher by pitching 2 innings and giving up 2ER off 4 hits.  She struck out 3 and walked 1.  Sara also went deep and long (1 for 1) for a 2-run homer.

Haylie Wagner came into the game in the 3rd inning and pitched very well for the remaining 5 innings.  She gave up 2 runs (0 ER) on 4 hits.  She had 5 Ks and no BBs.

Sierra Lawerence went 2 for 3 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.  Nicole Sappingfield went 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Thanks Coach Hutch for your dedication to the University of Michigan.  Thanks for providing us with decades of enjoyment when our hearts were broken by many of the other M Teams.  You are truely the definition of a "Michigan Man".  I hope you break the overall softball record as well.

Something tells me this news is about to get overwhelmed on the board, but it's worth noting nonetheless.  Hutch remains arguably the greatest softball coach in history, and certainly one of the top three or so.  What she has accomplished, in the face of staggering odds, and with such rock-solid consistency, is nothing short of amazing, and we can be proud as Wolverines to support her & the team.
