Not a backhand at this staff but I don't agree that they have done a good job with recruiting so far. It could be much worse but so far I'm not too excitied about these first two commits. Again I'm not saying they can't close out a nice class but with these last two kids in holding off saying they have done a good job. Let's let the class finish out before we say he has done a good job.

You said it yourself... only in reverse. Let's let the class finish out before you gage your excitement (or lack there of). With two weeks to work with and this many spots open i'm not surprised at what they've been able to do commit-wise. As far as getting new, talented prospects interested in Michigan he HAS done a great job which should entail what he can do with a full year of recruiting. I have no doubt that Hoke will be able to recruit, and Mattsion is a no-brainer.

With the cards they've been dealt, there doing a lot. I remember RR saying that his first recruiting class didn't really count although he had more than a month of recruiting left. Hoke had 2 weeks... so we should definitely cut these guys some slack.

Could we please stop acting like getting new prospects interested in Michigan is something amazing. Has he done good so far? Yes, absolutely. But getting new guys interested in us is completely ignoring the better guys that lost interest in us. Yes it is great that he got some new guys interested, but I would much rather have Frost, Hart, Zettel, Crawford, etc...

He may not be the most polished, but he gives off a genuine feel.  I like that he addresses his interviewers and questioners by their first name.  Nice touch.

They are recruiting like 300 DBs becuase G, Mattison is a disciple  of Mo and Carr, once Michigan gets a decent lead, time for the prevent. While in the past this drove me crazy, i have come to realize they won a shit ton of games that way.

Maybe with denard and co. on offence they plan to being ahead alot, thus running alot of prevent with 5 or 6 dbs at a time, and they want enough to rotate them and keep them fresh.

There were more games lost because of the prevent than won because of it.  When you are doing well by stopping the other team with your standard defense and doing well by moving on the other team with your standard offense, there is no GOOD reason to start running on every offensive play and dropping into a prevent on defense.  The only thing it does is keep the other team in the game, give them hope and make it possible to lose.  That is exactly what the beef against Carr has always been.  He played things so conservatively that occasionally it blew up in our face and a game that was as good as won wound up being lost.  It is why, as another poster pointed out, in 2007, with Henne, Hart, Long and half a dozen other highly drafted players, we still only had the 70th ranked offense.  Keep the pedal to the metal until the clock shows all zeros.

We had the 70th ranked offense due to lots of injuries, including Henne and Hart for a large chunk of the season.  We weren't at full strength until the Citrus Bowl against Florida, where our offense really showed what it could do.  Without the two fumbles inside the 5-yd line by Hart, it would've been a blowout.

Wait, so Freshman Ryan Mallett couldn't come in and be amazing and keep the offense clicking? That's strange, I thought Freshmen were supposed to come in and play as well as Juniors and Seniors, especially if they are ranked high on rivals. Weird.

I get that negativity to the new staff is looked down on. I, for one, am ecstatic. But I have to admit that all your points are valid. The prevent sure frustrated the heck out of me. I'd like to see the statistics on this, but my brother and I had a saying back in those days that if we entered the 4th quarter winning by 10 or more points or losing we'd win the game, but if we entered the 4th winning by less than 10 we'd lose because of the prevent. That was our perception. I'm super excited about Mattison's return, but would be happy if we didn't see that employed often.

His blinking pattern and slight head movements from side to side and up and down....is he trying to hypnotize me?  I felt the urge to commit to Michigan after watching that video and felt that I was under a spell and being guided.  There is more to Coach Hoke than we thought.

there is nothing wrong with Hoke talking about touching kids.  He is not Roman Catholic AFAIK.  I like a coach who will come in a make a difference in their lives for the long term AFTER Michigan.  Just like Bo did, just like Bo.  Damn I miss him.  God Bless you Bo and Millie

Really?  So if he was Roman Catholic would you have a problem with him saying he and his staff "touch" kids?

It is not about being Roman Catholic at all.  I dont know why you are upset.  This post is about coaches who affect these kids lives every, single day.  They have their backs and treat them just like thier own.  I dont know if RR did this or not.  But Hoke/mattison sure do talk about it.

This staff represents what Michigan is all about.  It is wonderful to see the kids respond to the staff just like Bo. So I dont know what people are ripping on Bo.  He is the ultimate Michigan man.

I coached baseball and soccer last year, and I'm currently coaching basketball. The kids are all around 6 years old. For baseball, they had us attend a 2 hour meeting and "unappropriate touching" was discussed. For soccer, I had to watch a video on-line about the subject. For the record, touching a kids head is OK. If you are going to give them a hug, come from the side. And I was not allowed to coach unless another adult was present. For basketball, I got fingerprinted. This is serious shit folks. Abuse gets passed down from one generation to the next. What we are doing today as a result of the priests' scandal hopefully will go a long way towards ending this cycle of violence. That's my 2 cents for today.

EDIT: They make all coaches go through this. They didn't just single me out because I look like Cliff Klaven.
