CMU previews? thoughts?
Not to be impatient but I am... where's the best preview for CMU? I'm not seeing much and wondered if anyone had a take.
Looks like CMU is OK even with the loss of Fisher at LT, Cater is the starter at QB - he was good in HS as I recall, Titus Davis had 880 yards last year at WR, DEs are young but promising, LB crew is good, DBs are missing another guy to the NFL. The team has seen success. They won their bowl game. These guys don't look bad.
It's getting close to that time. These guys beat Sparty.
This is the best I could comeup with from Dr. Google...
EDIT: I overlooked the Iowa win last year -as many of you have pointed out. Another B1G team bites the MAC dust. I added the USAToday rundown

The only preview I've seen is the one in HTTV. I mostly just wanted to comment that "hustlebelt.com" is the greatest website name I have ever seen.

CMU beat Sparty in 2009. A family friend of mine was the holder for CMU on the game winning kick.
Looking at their season last year, they were 7-6. The scores seem typical of most MAC schools; respectable offense and really bad defense. MSU's offense was 117th in the nation and they put up 41 on them. They did outplay Iowa and won by a point thanks to two point conversion but Iowa really couldn't get anything going last year.

CMU beay sparty in 2009, in 1992, in 1991 by 17, 3 times in 1977 alone, and beat them 6*pi to -2i back in 19 dickity-doo
Ill let you figue out when the line of ridiulousness was crossed.

We will probably win.
Does that count as a preview? Points for effort?

They'll probably be good...for a MAC team. They really don't have the athletes to keep up with Michigan for 60 minutes. MAC stats can be pretty inflated, especially on offense, because the league is filled with crappy defenses.

Assuming Hoke is full size. If Hoke is miniature, Michigan 1,000 CMU 14

Morris runs onto the field to start the 4th quarter and leads a td drive finished with a D. Green 3 yard thump. CMU scores 10 against our 2nd team and the final is 41-17
As of 9/1/13... there will be no more posts about Morris redshirting.

I just simmed the game on PS3, this was the final score... however it was 20-17 late in the third before Michigan got a turnover for points and Morris, Green, and Jones led a scoring drive of their own.
August 23rd, 2013 at 2:38 PM ^
Us- Alot of points.
Them- not too many.
A little bit serious though, I am fully expecting an at least 3 TD victory.

Vanilla and boring.

A pick-6 and a return TD would help keep the offense vinalla and boring.
August 23rd, 2013 at 2:47 PM ^
Oh....and at least a 2:1 turnover ration IN OUR FAVOR.

Easy win for Michigan. CMU is coming off of a bowl win, but it was a three point squeaker over Western Kentucky. Without the rule change that allows you to count victories over I-AA teams, Central wouldn't have been in a bowl game. They gave up 41 points to MSU's terrible offense, and 50 to Northern Illinois and Toledo. Plus, 41 to The State of Ball and 42 to Toledo.
Should be a blowout, unless Dan Enos somehow inherited Dantonio's ability to superprepare his team against Michigan.
August 23rd, 2013 at 3:13 PM ^
Superprepare = multiple late hits on the QB, helmet twists at the bottom of the pile, throwing a punch at the player who just beat you on a play, etc.

Parkway Christian prospect (Sterling Heights) might test our team for a few yards, but we should dominate CMU. Fire Up Chips and Go Blue! 35 -10 for the good guys!

I've never liked this matchup the few times it's happened in the past. Since I'm a graduate of both schools (CMU undergrad and U of M grad), I support both teams. I'll be hoping for a Michigan win but that CMU looks respectable against them. I don't like CMU's coach either since he's a Sparty.

After 2011 when we got all the fumbles and 2012 when we didn't, can this defense cause some fumbles and get some INTs? Looking for a good start in this key area. Want to see we are ready to fleece ND the following week.

Granted, it is based on data from past seasons and shouldn't be taken too seriously, but Massey goes with a 95% probability of a Michigan win with an estimated score of 42-17 based on several runs of the algorithm. The Sagarin numbers from last year - if used as an indicator of this year's potential success in this game, would predict a similar margin. I feel comfortable about this one.

CMU is without its #1 overall draft pick, and even then, that would not have been enough to save them.
Gardner will be done for the day by the middle of the 3rd quarter after looking really impressive, which will give Shane plenty of time to get some snaps in and get those first game jitters out of the way. Running game gets off to a slow start, but by the end of the game, Fitz will have 100+. I have a feeling that man's going to run like he's got something to prove.
CMU scores 10-14 points against our second-team defense, but the game will be well in hand by that point. Chants of "Beat the Irish" will be heard by the start of the 4th quarter. The wave will be in full effect, and all will be right with the world for at least a week.
49-10, Good Guys.
August 23rd, 2013 at 5:44 PM ^
All I really want to know about CMU is how closely their O and D resembles the Irish to know whether or not we'll get some good practice in for UTLII

Agreed. Different coach and players.
MAC teams beat B1G teams now and then. They won't have a chip on their shoulder in that respect. Kind of similar to the team we start out against next year. That is my point. I mean ... Holy Toledo... it's a MAC team right...move along... nothing to see here.
Once you let a team think they can win - there's trouble. It doesn't help to think they can't beat you either.

You thought right. The Iowa game was the crowning achievement for CMU's season. I'm guilty of oversight and stupidity.
That win was not as impressive as the 2009 or 90s years but definitely a harbinger of an improved team and more on point than past irrelevant glory.
I have Horroritis and need to chill and drink more beer prior to hitting the save button.
My apologies.
