C.J. Olaniyan commits to Penn State.

Sort of disappointing...at least it wasn't MSU, I guess.

Ugh. We're running low on options for pure defensive ends; BG needs a replacement. Only people I know of that are interested in us are Easley and King. Still plenty of time until signing day, but there are concerns.

Olaniyan makes a decision ($)
After a late-summer lull in their recruiting, the Nittany Lions are back at it again. Just days after picking up a verbal commitment from four-star fullback Zach Zwinak, the Nittany Lions secured another verbal commitment on Wednesday evening, as four-star defensive end C.J. Olaniyan gave his oral pledge to the Penn State staff.

Seems like if we had been pursuing him a little harder he would have at least waited awhile before committing. Does anyone know if he didn't give us an official because didn't push for it or if he was just really sold on Penn State?

C.J. Olaniyan is a beast at a position of need. Aramide is a great athlete, but he's a SAM or a Quick, both positions that have or will have considerable depth. We are very low on defensive ends that can actually rush the passer instead of just holding the point of attack.

I'm not sold on it yet. Neither Rivals nor Scout is reporting he's committed. While it probably is true, until he's officially come out and announced his verbal pledge, I think we still have a shot. Either way, I still think we'll end up with a good class this year. Rich Rod's just getting started.

I was checking out Scout's free Sparty board yesterday and the feeling I got was that Olinyan just lost interest in them and vice versa. They felt he was headed to the SEC, though. I've never had the feeling CJ was headed to Lansing. He seems to be a guy who didn't want to stay home. But PSU is a surprise to everyone, that much I'd say.
