Cissoko stays home
October 10th, 2009 at 10:23 AM ^
I really hope he gets his crap together we need him for the long haul. With an injury today we may have to throw Turner in and blow his redshirt. Lets hope Woolfolk is our answer here.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:23 AM ^
I would assume there is an issue with his attitude, then. I can't think of another reason why he wouldn't travel. I hope whatever it is gets straightened out.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:25 AM ^
Uh, wow. Not really a good way to spin this, if true.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:27 AM ^
He has a lot of talent, if he's not invited to travel that would tell you attitude problem which means transfer possibilities which means we take another hit in depth, talent, pr. It doesn't make sense, he was one of the most praised kids coming out of the off season.........or it's all bullshit he has the flu and it makes more sense to stay here and get treated.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:29 AM ^
Yeah, I'm hoping it's something medically related because we need serious depth at CB. All I know is that he's not traveling and wasn't on the injury report. Is it bad to hope that someone has the flu? In this case maybe?
October 10th, 2009 at 10:36 AM ^
+1 to the flu. I didn't think of that.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:28 AM ^
well that's interesting. holy depth chart!
October 10th, 2009 at 10:29 AM ^
Hello Justin Turner!
October 10th, 2009 at 10:30 AM ^
The move of Woolfolk to corner and the lack of Cissoko at any point last week should've set off red flags.
I usually try to avoid talking about college players like this, put simply put, he needs to get his head out of his ass.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:33 AM ^
no kidding. this coupled with how he acted once he was initially sat make it seem like he feels he deserves to start.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:39 AM ^
If I would have said this, I would have been negged mercilessly.
However, I agree. Cissoko hasn't played well, showboats on the field even when he doesn't do anything good, got in trouble with the police in the off-season, and generally isn't entitled to anything.
This kid was overrated coming out of high school (and certain posters here will back me up that I've been saying it all along), and I think Woolfolk is/would be a better option at cornerback right now. That being said, I'm skeptical that Michael Williams and Jordan Kovacs can hold down the fort at safety, since they've been playing like linebackers for much of the season. Maybe Jared Van Slyke sees some more playing time today...
October 10th, 2009 at 10:52 AM ^
The "overrated" moniker needs to come with an asterisk. No kid from the Detroit PSL is going to look good out there when he's forced into duty earlier than he should be because of past recruiting misses while also having a learn a new scheme (again) and dealing with a shoulder issue that essentially renders one of his arms useless.
However, none of the above is related to his not being at Iowa. His attitude is in the gutter because he got benched. You can't have someone like that around the team.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:01 AM ^
"His attitude is in the gutter because he got benched."
This is what I meant when I said he's not entitled to anything.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:43 AM ^
Has "Lloyd thrown the papers at him yet"?? He is easily our most talented player for that 2 CB spot. I can't believe this has gone this way. When I saw this kids Combine tape as a Junior I could have sworn he was a can't miss. Seems like the perfect fit for RR with his relentlessness and attitude(from reports never seen it much on the field). So this leads us to 2 conclusions.
1. My scouting of 16 yr olds in shorts and a helmet is horrendous.
2. The insider info we get on Wojo's interwebs is as useful as Spring Training batting averages.
My insider's are shrinking I'm down to 2. Other Brian and Mgoobes
PS For recruiting I'll listen to Sam's gut so I'm at 3.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:47 AM ^
I'm surprised it took you this long to learn that you should probably ignore Wojo, Sharp, Chengelis, Rittenberg, etc. when it comes to inside info.
I believe The Other Brian and MGoObes are just frequent readers of Scout and choose their info wisely. As far as I know, they're not insiders, per se...just very selective/smart about what info they believe. (You two can correct me if I'm wrong.)
October 10th, 2009 at 11:09 AM ^
I was joking about Wojo he always called it the Interweb on his show as a way of moking its existence with an intentional error. I don't listen to any of the MSM in regards to Mich for christ sakes Desmond was just on national TV saying our run game got shredded last week. MGOBlog and my buddy is about my only resource.58
What I am saying is that the "scout" guys and GBMW and such seem to have missed on numerous guys this year. OB and Mgoobes seem to have a little more insight. I have no idea if they have inside info or jus just a little better at reading the tea leaves but there track record has been better than
Emilien is a sure starter
Omameh is a beast
Molk might lose his job
B. Smith is a beast
Stokes will play a ton this year
etc...
October 10th, 2009 at 11:13 AM ^
The GBMW guys are jokes. I wouldn't trust them if they told me the sky was blue.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:15 AM ^
Bam...ok your the 4th guy I trust. Short and sweet and brutal. All my favorites.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:24 AM ^
I'm no insider. I'm just a guy.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:12 AM ^
Has "Lloyd thrown the papers at him yet"??
I always liked that motivational tactic.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:34 AM ^
Man. I really hope he can get his act together, if that is the reason he did not make the trip. We need him.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:35 AM ^
Because if not, we shouldn't be putting that out there as a reason. Maybe he's disappointed at losing his job and is about to transfer, maybe he's sick, maybe he's injured. I guess I'd rather it was an attitude problem than a transfer, an attitude can be fixed, our cornerback depth this year cannot
October 10th, 2009 at 10:36 AM ^
If true, that speaks volumes. Still, since he had that nerve issue in his shoulder he hasn't looked anything like he did in the first game.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:50 AM ^
Stevie Brown had a pretty bad year last year. Not only did he never get left home, he was one of the student reps at media day. My spidey sense is telling me it's sickness or attitude. (pleeease be the flu)
October 10th, 2009 at 10:54 AM ^
I do not think it would be the flu. Not only has Woolfolk been playing CB in practice for a few days - Cissoko should be recovered enough by now to at least travel with the team, even if he's just a backup/emergency option.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:05 AM ^
If he had the flu this week, there's no way they would have let him travel, at least not on the main team plane, on the chance he was still contagious, and they probably would have known that they needed to make a contingency plan for this weekend by moving "Willfork" to corner as soon as Cissoko got sick. It's certainly a possibility.
This flu is brutal, one week out from onset I was still going to bed at 9pm or earlier, I had no energy at all. I'm three weeks out now and I'm still coughing up a lung. It sounds like this is fairly normal for this flu. If Cissoko had it this week, he'd have been damn near worthless to have today -- he was playing badly enough without the flu.
But I agree that it probably isn't the flu. I hope it is, but I'm guessing it's not.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:07 AM ^
If he had the flu this week, he probably wouldn't have been practicing.
I'm not saying it's impossible that he has the flu. I'm saying signs point in a different direction.
October 10th, 2009 at 10:57 AM ^
The idea that Cissoko stayed home for an attitude adjustment is idiotic. You're not going to leave a player who can play at home. Especially with how little depth M has at corner.
He has had a separated shoulder all year...
October 10th, 2009 at 11:01 AM ^
I totally agree. I just don't understand why he wouldn't be listed on the injury report, especially since RR is such a strong proponent of OIR's being standard throughout the NCAA.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:03 AM ^
If he was healthy enough to practice (and he was), then they're not going to suddenly say, "Wait a minute, you're too injured to play in a game. Stay home"
October 10th, 2009 at 10:58 AM ^
Can you say "Transfer"? Looks like a guy who sees Floyd, Turner, and incoming recruits in the rear-view-mirror and responds with an attitude problem. I bet he has one foot out the door at this point
October 10th, 2009 at 11:08 AM ^
With his less than stellar play to date and alleged attitude problems, he'd be taking a step down from Michigan if he transfers.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:07 AM ^
the coaching staff probably didn't trust him running around unsupervised in Iowa City.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:16 AM ^
As always, people shouldn't be so quick to comment negatively on shit they have no fucking idea about. Calls for transfers (jtmc33), posers of wannabe-flu experts (Magnus), and hypocrites moralizing while simultaneously doing the opposite of what they claim (Other Brian) should shut the fuck up until anyone beyond mgokev and his mystery source (no offense to you, Kevin, but my firm belief is to believe nothing I read on message boards) have the story. Remember when people came on here and called McGuffie a pussy for 2 weeks last year? People don't fucking learn.
October 10th, 2009 at 11:21 AM ^
How am I a wanna-be flu expert when I say that the kid probably wouldn't be practicing if he had the flu?...and that if he had the flu but was able to practice, then they probably wouldn't suddenly prevent him from playing? It's common sense.
If you believe nothing you read on message boards, then why do you read them?
October 10th, 2009 at 11:26 AM ^
There's too much stupid here. I'm going to lock this and if there are any other threads about this I'm going to delete and be liberal with the ban hammer.
