Chuck Martin as DC at South Bend?

He was supposedly meeting with Marshall this week for their HC position

God no please? I know Cincy would be calling for him as soon as Kelly was on the first plane out. Even though Lefevour is on the way out, Central has a great program with a lot of young potential talent on the way up.

Last I knew Jones was a finalist for the Kansas job. Marshall can't offer much more than CMU, so that's pretty lateral. He'd definately go to any BCS school, though.

Remember how up in arms so many people got (and still are) about RR's language? Well, the stuff that comes out of Martin's mouth would make RR look like a saint.

I don't know, he did refuse to interview this week. But really, he's a young guy who has a D-II school at the ultimate heights year after year, really think he wouldn't want to challenge himself at a higher level? I'm all for loyalty, but lets be honest, in college football, once you become a head coach, the only way to "get promoted" is to change schools. I don't know what your professional career is like, but if you work for a company, it's reasonable that you would want to move up the chain of command to higher responsibilities and better pay. In College football, to do that, you excel at your current job, then get "promoted" to a better one. The elite powers (Florida, Alabama, Texas, Michigan, USC, ND, etc.) are like being CEO with other jobs essentially being somewhere along the chain of middle management, where you hope to move up from. To take the analogy a step further, you can "start your own business," by essentially establishing an otherwise also ran as a national power a la Bobby Bowden, Frank Beamer and Joe Paterno. However, that's not exactly easy to do, most coaches eventually either move on, or their programs stagnate and they're pushed aside. Chuck Martin will be given a shot somewhere, and if he has any ambition in his professional career, he will take it, as he should.
