Chris Bryant (Tibia), Kaleb Ringer (Knee) Out For The Season

Submitted by icefins26 on

According to Chris Balas at Rivals (TheWolverine):

@Balas_Wolverine OL Chris Bryant out for the yr with a fractured tibia; LB Kaleb Ringer to redshirt in 2012 after successful knee surgery

Hurts depth, for sure.

While Bryant's injury in particular is obviously not good for OL depth by any means, I wish both Kaleb and Chris a full and speedy recovery. Glad to hear that Ringer's surgery was successful though - that at least is good to hear. Never like to hear the words "out for season" associated with an injury, but hopefully they are right back at it as soon as possible.

But Ringer was going to RS anyway in my opinion. I don't think he was going to get clearly ahead of Mike Jones (Who?).

Bryant, seemed to be #8 or #9 in the OL rotation.

I don't think this hurts Michigan this year as much as it hurts the development of these PLAYERS.

Ringer may very well be the #2 MLB next year behind Bolden. Bryant could've worked his way into some PT with Omameh being our only RG with experience.

Obviously (hopefully) you'll never ROTATE that many guys. But what he meant was "guys that we feel comfortable winning with."

I just posted a 1-8 above. I believe Bryant was #9. And that's still an interior OL --- so that is why I don't think his injury hurts us short-term, but it hurts his progression and hurts us in the long-term as he misses out on practice time.

Joey B. and Kyle K. seemed to both be ahead of Bryant, certainly at LG (Bryant played RG). Gunderson was also getting into the mix.

Our biggest issue is we have no depth on the outside. Our 3 guys that would be able to play tackle after Lewan all start (Schofield, Omamah and Mealer).

Gunderson has been playing more guard after struggling on the edge at OT. He's really been learning 4 spots on the line for emergency purposes. But hopefully we don't have to get that far down the depth chart.

Also, Schofield played LG, not RG. Omameh played that all year.

Horrible news on Bryant.

I am very concerned about depth along both lines.  We retooled them both and our starters should be fine, but depth is needed to win Championships.
