Choice and tickets for 1 home game

Submitted by Florida Blue on

So I talked it over with the wife (CFO) and it looks like we are going to be able to make it up to 1 home game this year.  It's kind of tough when you live in Florida to get up to a game but we try to do 1 each year.  Last year we came up for Purdue and the pain of that loss still haunts my dreams.  So I come to you fellow Mgobloggers with an open mind.  What game should we come up for and what is the best way to find good tickets?

Right now we are discussing coming up for "little brother" but it isn't set in stone yet.  Just looking for advice from those that attend regularly.  So what do you think?

MSU is a great game to see but also Uconn should be pretty good this year too. you will get an early view at the football team

I'm in a similar situation, and I'm planning on going to the Wisconsin game.  The weather will likely suck (late November), but the hockey team has a home and home so I can take in one or both of those too.  I guess what I'm saying is look at the calendar and maybe find other attractions on the weekends of games, so you can really make the most of the weekend.

If a football game is the only thing you want or care to do, I would think tix would be cheap(er) and easier to get for the UMASS and Bowling Green games.  Otherwise, little brother or the following weekend (Iowa) would be a good games too.

The easiest tickets to come by will be UMass and BGSU.  I think there are actually tickets still available through the U of M ticket office for those games.  You're also virtually assured of seeing Michigan come out with a win.

In terms of good games to see, MSU, Iowa (HC), and Wisconsin should all deliver lots of excitement and drama.....and hopefully victory (yes, please?).

If you choose the Wisconsin game, you have the added bonus of the hockey team playing at Yost against Lake Superior St on Friday and Saturday nights.  Get both some Michigan Stadium and Yost flavor for your travel trouble.  Good luck.

You can also check out the Mgoblue.com athletic site.  Last year I was able to get tix for the ND game (albeit a couple weeks before.)  I went for the random seat generator and clicked multiple times until I found two seats (one in front of the other, so the GF stood directly behind me...)  I had Rows 1 and 2 by one of the goal lines, but it was a fair price (~$70 each) and an awesome time!

I say Iowa.  The time of year is perfect (mid-October), it's homecoming, 3:30 start before daylight savings ends, and Iowa is likely to be a solid team this year.  If we start off really well (i.e 6-0 or 5-1), a win at this game could lead us to a 10-2 season.  It'll be the biggest game of the year, other than Ohio State of course.

definitely be the best game. It is October. Football is in the air. Tailgating at it's best. Fans are absolutely whacked.

We are transporting two Michigan-painted grills and doing jerk Lobster and Chicken along with rice and peas.

We were in Iowa last year so we look for REVENGE!!

Michigan State or Iowa.

Due to the capacity being higher than any other year this year, I expect the MSU game will set a record for a very long time to come, which is kind of a cool thing to be able to say you went to (Like the hockey game we also have coming up against them). Plus, its MSU.

Iowa will probably be the easiest non-cupcake ticket to come by. It is homecoming, but it is also fall break, so if you're willing to settle for validated student tickets, this might be your game. Unfortunately, there are many students who don't actually care that much and will not stick around until after the game even though break is Monday and Tuesday this year. Their loss is your potential homecoming festivities gain.

iowa is a huge game and if the team has any shot at a bowl game students will be here other than the freshman who book flights back east without checking the schedule (they will learn) and their tickets will be nasty anyway

its homecoming, i am not a big fan of it, the crowd is a little less crazy and a little bit more sit on the hands esque ... i realize its cool to come back to it for the older folks and i respect that, i just have found the last 2 yrs that its a little bit more of a classy event (even for students because we generally know people we have to meet and greet and act/dress accordingly) and hence a little less about the actual game

go to msu or uconn

I think half the alumni association from NYC is flying in for the MSU game. So students be on alert. We're coming for your tickets. Respect your alumni elders and give us your tickets for face.

and pay market value, you should be fine ...

but market value for an instate game is high, i have at least 10 friends from back home who are semi interested in a resnable ticket and at least 5 will end up coming and this is the norm for instate kids ... michigam-msu week is kinda like a high school renioun on our college campuses every yr ( all schools too umich, state, directional, and others)

I got tickets last year from a guy on Craigslist. Just check the local Ann Arbor listings. I'm in Florida (Tampa) also and was at WMU last year and the Toledo game the year before. Luckily for us, plane tickets are pretty cheap. I got the tickets at face value too. I'm heading up for the UConn home opener this year. Can't wait.
