I live in Oregon and listen to the local sports talk radio shows whenever I can.  There is never ever any talk of Oregon sanctions and it is not as if the talk show jocks get along with coach Kelly - they think he is kind of an ass- so I do not believe there to be any cover up on their part.  All we ever hear is how wonderful life is if you are a Duck or duck fan.

Chip Kelly is obviously successful and he is single with zero life outside of football.  That kind of work-aholic is exactly what you have to be anymore.  If it is true that he goes to the NFL then the whole state of Oregon might be on suicide watch.....

Or it could be Oregon sports talk jocks are stupid, like they are every where else.

The NCAA is obviously investigating Willie Lyles and company.  They've already sent Oregon a Letter of Inquiry.  There are many recruiting insiders that would be shocked if it didn't lead to a NOA.  Combine this with the odd decision of Darren Thomas, there seems to be plenty of smoke.

If a pro team is willing to throw money at him why not leave?  He's a hot name and his entire backfield is moving on.  Take the $ and see what happens.  He can always go back to coaching college.  Better to leave too early than stay during a rebuilding phase that may or may not be successful.

I bet the coach at Arizona welcomes this news since they would also be recruiting the same type of athlete out west.

I really don't think that logic would pan out in the long run. First and foremost, I understand he's got some rebuilding to do with Oregon; however, he's got a good thing going there. The fan base has his back as does the university. Secondly, I think it's a safe bet to say he'd flounder at best in the NFL which wouldn't look too good on his resume. Finally, if he's merely leaving for the money then any attempt he'd make at coming back to college (assuming he gets fired after a few years in the NFL) would be highly scrutinized in that universities would be worried he's simply in it for the money.

As a Bucs fan, I'd actually be pretty upset if this happened. But then again, the Glazers are in the business of pissing the Tampa community off, so its really nothing new. But to me, it doesn't make sense. I mean Kelly's a good coach, with 2 Rose Bowls and a BCS title appearance, but:

1) He's a spread coach. How does this translate to the NFL, where the spread is more or less nonexistent?

2) This is more just a personal issue, but when I think of the Bucs, I think defense. I think of names like John Lynch, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Hardy Nickerson, Ronde Barber, and the list goes on and on. These guys were the foundation of one of the NFL's top defenses year in and year out. I know Kelly's offenses are explosive, but defense is what wins Super Bowls, as evidenced by our only Super Bowl win in 2002. We had an anemic offense at best, but the #1 defense in the NFL across the board.

I hope, for the sake of my team, that Kelly turns out to be the right guy, but he'd better invest a lot of time in our defense. We didn't spend the last 2 drafts using our top picks on D-lineman for nothing.

Normally I'd agree but Kelly uses a system the NFL does not, and for good reason. NFL LBs and DBs are strong and fast enough to tackle in open space. And personally, I'd rather not "take a risk" on a coach. I mean sure, you technically take a risk on whatever coach you hire, but to me, this guy being a success for my team (yes, I'm a Bucs fan) is a bit of a stretch in my opinion. The spread does not translate to the NFL, otherwise teams would use it. Personally I want a strongly defensive-minded coach leading my team.

The Bucs have always been about defense, and that's the way I hope it stays. Still, if they hire Kelly, I will support him until he gives me a reason to think otherwise.

Before Tony Dungy got to Tampa, one could always rest assured that there was one team in the NFL that was run as badly as the Lions were.  For years, Detroit and Tampa Bay were the two worst-run franchises in the NFL.  Tampa Bay had apparently righted its ship, but then the Glazer family bought Manchester United.  Ever since, they have spent as little money as they can, and dumped the TV profits into their true passion, soccer.

Now, the Lions are showing signs of becoming the model franchise of how to rebuild from scratch, and Tampa Bay is back at the bottom again.  They are either stalling to get an assistant from one of the final four playoff teams, or they are taking the phrase "fuck up" to an unprecedented level.  This "coaching search" makes Bill Martin and Dave Brandon look like Albert Einstein and Werner Von Braun.

Either way, if you were to poll people in the Tampa Bay area, the only people who would say the Glazers are doing a good job would be their relatives.

This hire, if it happens, might even make their relatives turn on them.

You're really not far off. As a Tampa native, I can tell you personally that much of the city dislikes, even despises the Glazers. They've clearly shown that ManU is their top priority, and a lot of their actions with the team over the last few years have alienated them from the fanbase, such as having loads of $ in FA and not spending it. We used to sell out every game, now we're lucky if the stadium is more than half full, or not overrun with opposing fans.

Many people in Tampa are looking forward to the day where the Glazers no longer own the team. We want owners who view the Bucs as their sole priority.

Has already come down from Adam Schefter and the Tampa Bay Times.  And that he met with them last week.  Schefter's tweet was something like "as reported in Portland, Kelly did meet with the Bucs last week" which makes it sound like he knew about this and was sitting on it.

And Oregon boards have a quote from someone in the UO athletic department that they had no clue he was meeting with NFL folks.

So it's clear he met with the Bucs, and if he pissed off the AD, then even though no deal is done yet, Kelly's probably going to do whatever he needs to do to get a deal done with the Bucs.

Duck message boards are in full HOLY SHIT mode and already assuming a godfather offer to Chris Petersen.

If (when) Denard has a stellar season next year and shows he can be a capable passer at the next level, what are the chances that a Kelly led Bucs team drafts him as their dual threat QB. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. That could be his best bet if he wants to play QB rather than receiver in the pros.
