Chip Kelly post game promo

Submitted by JJB2 on

Did you happen to hear the post game interview with Chip Kelly as he spoke to the crowd?   At the end he said, "we're going to go drink some Dr. Pepper and mail our Christmas gifts by UPS."

Is he or Oregon getting paid for him to say that?  That's a new one to me.  Anything for a buck.

>> edit:  after researching a bit more I guess they were founding partners of the game, but have you ever heard after the Tosittos Fiesta bowl "We're going to eat some Tostitos" or after the Outback Bowl "I'm going to get me a bloomin' Onion".  Maybe it was a requirement of the sponsorship, but man it's going overboard.

The University of Oregon owns UPS.  And Dr. Pepper owns the entire state of Oregon.  It's all part of their master plan to outfit the entire world in Pro Combat (shuudddder).

Are they sponsoring any bowls?  Or the bowl selection show or something like that?  Or do they have some ties to Oregon?

That's about all I can think of.  With Nike funding the program I doubt they are that hard up for cash.

I guess his sandwhich board was in the equipment room for repairs. I didn't stay up to watch the interview, but man, that's a new one on me. Maybe he'll sing the Dr. Pepper jingle it they win their bowl game.

and he told me he misspoke. He meant to say the game is sponsored by Jean's feminine wipes, brought to you by Andy's lead-based paint chips. "Once you pop...your heart stops."

The Pac12 championship changed my mind about having the B1G championship game at home sites. If we ever had to host the corporate mess in the big house I'd die. There were Pac12 logos everywhere and fireworks and cheezy national anthems and Dr Pepper themed halftime entertainment and even the coach plugging Dr Pepper. I know Oregon is a corporate whore, but it's even a bit embarassing for them

Yeah, except that when you put that whole mess inside a soulless NFL dome, it compounds the schlock even further.

At least a home venue like Autzen or the Big House still gives it something recognizable as a CFB event and not an Arena Football League game.

What was even better was when Kelly said, "I want to give this Pac12 trophy to the real leader of the University of Oregon". It was the president of the college. I'm assuming he was saying it wasn't Phil Knight or himself??? All I could think of was stupid little Gordon Gee when he said that.

It pays for the game we love to watch.

When I was president of a little league I had to find revenues anywhere I could to keep the costs to the players' families down.  It's just the way things are.

Just found out the SEC championship is also sponsored by Dr. Pepper. How much did they pay for this stuff??? I highly doubt Les Miles (ok ok, or Mark Richt) will mention it in a victory speech though
