Cheer for the the Chiefs today (aka more Harbaugh wishful thinking)

Submitted by Swayze Howell Sheen on

We all wanted Harbaugh. But we can't have this one, at least not for three or five years (hint: he's the one in the middle):

But lest we forget, as Yoda said, there is another:

His resume isn't too shabby either, and there has already been plenty of discussion about his current assistant coaches, noted "Michigan Men": Cam Cameron (OC), Greg Mattison (DC), and Andy Moeller (Assistant to the OL Coach).

If the Ravens manage to lose at KC today, that will leave Harbaugh with a 3-3 postseason record in his three years at Baltimore, and will end this promising season on quite a sour note.

Should that get him fired? Probably not. But it might get him to think about other possibilities; remember RichRod bolted immediately after a hugely disappointing loss. And living in Baltimore is not quite like living in the Bay Area/SF - Ann Arbor may seem like a nice upgrade.

Anyhow, here's to wishful thinking, and a big KC win to pave the way for "a" Harbaugh (if not "the" Harbaugh) to come home.

Random aside: in reading a bit about John Harbaugh, I came across this article. It had the following interesting quote:

“Did we take a chance by hiring John? My belief is that you have to be willing to do things the masses don’t, or you’ll never separate yourself from the masses,” stated team owner Steve Bisciotti. “We’re totally confident we picked the right person.”

The quote is included because it made me sad. On the other hand, hiring Hoke is not somebody anyone else seems to want, so we've got that going for us.

Sad but I've been dreaming of this since I heard that reporter in Baltimore talked of it.

It will probably go into the same hope of “Why couldn’t M. Singletary win more?” If I was still a betting man I would put the farm on KC just so I can take another nut shot when JH(the Other) turns us down. Sorry I’m crabby/sick/and I just ran out of creamer.

Have you ever had freshly steamed Maryland crabs (Old Bay FTW)?!?!? I mean, that's reason enough to stay there.

OK, only half kidding ;)

So if we cant get the chick we're in love with to marry us we should propose to her sister? Unfortunately John is extremely well respected in the NFL and if the Ravens were dumb enough to fire him he'd get snapped up in about 2 seconds by another team. My guess would be Miami would say "just kidding" on the contract extension if THIS Harbaugh was on the streets.

Rumor has it that his people are the ones that contacted Michigan about the job, so it would be less about the Ravens firing him and more about him wanting to come here. His Offensive line coach was a captain at UM with other Harbaugh (I believe) also. I know this is a pipe dream, but damn it would be nice to have him as our head coach.

Yeah, nobody wants him here, except for the mainstream sporting press in the Detroit area. Those are the same "masses" that got RR fired (at this point in time rather than after next season, at least), and the kind of people Bisciotti refers to there.

More wishful thinking on our part, but anyway how do you conclude he is connected as  a possible candidate? Just curious, not trying to question.

"Supposedly" as someone else mentioned HE expressed interest in the job previously.  His connection is that his Dad was an assistant to Bo when he was growing up and he lived in AA and graduated from Pioneer High School.  Obviously his brother was also a player for Michigan.  He also has three former Michigan assistants on his current staff.  He is obviously very familiar with the program.

That being said, its a pipe dream.   Baltimore would have to lose today for it to even be a possibility (which I don't see happening) AND even then I would guess we had little to no shot.  But if they lose you would hope Brandon would have the search firm at least contact him to see if he was interested.
