Chase Winovich Visit Reaction (Paywalled)

Submitted by tigers17fan on

Tom VanHaaren sent out a reaction from Chase on his visit. Some quotes I loved

"I couldn't find a bad thing about it, either. I looked but couldn't find it." (talking about the day of a player)

"I'd like to make a decision the weekend after my visit to Pitt, whenever that happens,"

"I got to ride around on scooters with Jake Ryan and Taylor Lewan, which was fun," (scooters instead of his twosie?

We'll see how our recruitment with him goes and how that pans out with Watson in the mix as well. If we get either we get a quality guy :)

A changed Taylor since his decision to return. Obviously, we shouldn't have been begging for him to stay. He isn't the recruiter that the underclassmen are since he cannot relate to the interests of the younger guys. Shit!!

A bunch of football players have been riding around campus on scooters for months. It started maybe a month before Taylor said something to the media about not riding the twosie anymore. I think I asked if anybody knew where they'd all gotten them here at least once but I never got a response.

From what I've heard on the Scout boards (via Sam Webb), it's looking like things have taken a big turn with Watson. Webb said he would be surprised to see him in this class now. Let's hope that things work out with Chase!

IMO we need Winovich, its another head-to-head battle with the rivals. And it's a position of almost dire need.

He fits PERFECTLY in the Jake Ryan mold.

Let's hope he found something he didn't like in his other visits because this would be a big time get.

Not sure what happened with Watson, he seems like a good prospect, just a little raw...but he's from East St. Louis so you know he's tough. That said, it's not a position of need.

I think hearing that Jake MotherFucking Ryan is riding around on a scooter is great news. Rehab must be going well. Fingers crossed.

What makes us think that the coaches have turned the page in Watson? He was trying to plan some kind if commitment party in New York with guys like Jabrill peppers and da'shawn hand. I doubt they have just given up on him like that so quickly

5-10ish and plays mike/will which we have plenty of. Winovich is a athletic sam at 6'2 plus. I watched video Watson going through drills and one on ones at the recent nike Chicago camp, and it was very underwhelming to say the least.

Untrained eye and all he looked slow, kind of pudgy and got beat in space. To his credit, he did do good in pass rushing, but I'm just thinking the coaches are choosing to go hard after more of a need and better prospect in Winovich.

Winovich is essentially down to Pitt and Michigan with Ohio still lurking. I have Ohio on the outside because of Berger and Hubbard, but you can never count them out. I like our chances over Pitt. Watson is down to Kansas and Michigan. I think they can afford to hold off to check out higher prospects as Winovich, Furbush, etc.

There really isn't a reason NOT to be an ESPN insider.  I'm paying less than $4/year for it.  The content isn't worth the full price tag, but I'll gladly pay $4/year to read what Tom VH has to say.

on or immediately after the visit.  Should be interesting how the LB in this class shake out

Obviously their Escalades and Navigators are garaged for now, and the scooters are just for show.  I mean, Hoke HAS TO BE giving these guys cash and cars, right?  How else can beating Sparty for recruits be explained?  #spartysleuthing

Like Winovich had to drop this weekend in order for it to happen..  With him waiting til after the Pitt visit I feel like he still is a bit of an OSU lean.  Stranger things have happened though, Ferns wrapped up Lawrence Marshall pretty quick.. along with the help of Mo Ways.  Like I said still think he ends up at OSU but with this great group of kids, anything is possible.

Is Watson still scheduled to visit soon and does he still have an offer? If the coaches are cooling on him what would happen if he tried to commit?

According to a new post on The M Block, the coaches basically told Winovich they will still have a spot for him even if Watson commits:

"This was a little bit ago but they told me that they would probably only take one more...but then said, 'Dang, we should take two.'"  You know, because of how the linebacker situation is, so take two more, as in three total.  But they never said one word to me like, 'If you don't come here now that spot's not going to be open.' So I assume that I'd still have that spot whether he (Kyron Watson) commits or not.  You know, if I'm not important enough to them where they're willing to wait for me, then I don't want to go there.  I can't control what other people do.  I can only control what I can control.  From what I understand they want him more as an inside guy so that wouldn't really make a difference."
