And it didn't take a holdout to get it done.

This guy is coming off one of the best years of his career and you didn't see him holding out and refusing to play unless he was the leagues highest paid corner. The NFL needs more players like Charles Woodson. The guy is nothing but hard work, class, and giving back to the community. Makes guys like Revis look like an absolute chump. Nice work Charles. Good luck this season, I got the Packers in the Super Bowl

the world needs more people like charles woodson not just the nfl

it wouldn't hurt our defensive secondary to have more people like charles woodson while we're at it

Way to go Charles! Screw Rex Ryan...he and Phil Fulmer have a lot in common.

Also a bajillion year contract with my heart.

I'm a bears fan.... But great for Charles. Not only is he the DPOY, but Charles Woodson's football abilities save lives

By far my favorite Wolverine of all time.

My man crush on Charles Woodson knows no bounds. First, from when he played for Wolverines and now that he has signed with my Packers. There is just a lot to love there.
Also, he seems like a great guy all around (hard working, philanthropist, etc.).

I feel like I should point out, Woodson was drafted in 1998, he's had a long career, gotten paid and has other sources of income (he has his own wine label for example). Revis was still on his rookie contract and one blow knee away from that rookie contract being the only NFL money he'd ever make.
I like the fact Woodson took care of the contract, but Woodson had his payday, a 52 million dollar contract, whereas other younger corners had yet to get that.
September 9th, 2010 at 3:43 PM ^
a rookie contract worth $30 million, 11 of which was guaranteed. If that's not enough of a payday to set you up for life, then I don't know what is.
September 9th, 2010 at 4:09 PM ^
So if say I put you a suitcase in front of you with 11 million in it and one with 65 million in it, you'd take the one with 11 million because "that's enough"?

on what the Banker is offering. Plus, it's not like the case girls are going to tell you which is which.

another awesome avatar. I am seeing some new good ones today.
I need to get out more.....

Obviously 65>11 and Revis probably made more than the 11. The point is, people are acting like Revis made diddly squat at the league minimum when in fact he made significantly more.
$11 is also considerably more than what the average American would make in lifetime of their careers. I'd be happy with 11, but I would not complain if someone threw more at me (Woodson's case). Revis however sat on the sidelines and pouted about his contract until someone coughed up more.

I think I speak for most Wolverine fans and Woodson worshippers when I say we are just sick and tired of Revis hogging attention, credit, and getting hyped up to Jim Thorpe proportions when Charles isn't out on an island, he's attacking and exploiting offenses from all over the field like some crazy Rich Rod hybrid. Forget Revis getting his payday, give this man his due!

Points all around. I am stone serious as a 10 car pile up when I say that if they need to modernize the name of the Heisman Tropy, it should be called The Woodson. The greatest all around football player I have ever seen on the college level.
Congrats to him on a career that just keeps getting better.

Obviously, I love this news. The new defense in Green Bay is perfect for Woodson. The Pack needs to sign more Michigan Men.

I was so upset when the Pack drafted Brohm one spot ahead of Henne. We could have had robo-Henne backing up Rodgers right now! Arg, such a missed opportunity to develop talent.
Can't really blame Ted Thompson too much though -- he normally knocks the draft out of the park.
September 9th, 2010 at 7:38 PM ^
I thought the same thing at the time, but I'm glad Henne is getting an opportunity to start in Miami as opposed to sitting behind one of the best in the game in GB.

This is probably a better way to think about it. Silver lining or something, I suppose.

Next to running back, I think a cornerback's career has the shortest span. Certainly, it's unusual for a CB to be extremely effective well into their 30's. But if anyone can, it's CW. This guy, at 33, is already a sure HOF'er; and he just inked a five year contract. And there is considerable cash available to him if he can keep bringing it. The Packers have been a great organization for a long time. And they've proven it again.
Too bad I'm a Lions fan.
