Charles Woodson Posbang

I was just about to create a Woodson Watch post.
December 24th, 2015 at 9:06 PM ^
During our game against Northwestern earlier this season, I dropped an interception that I should have caught. When I got back to the locker room after the game, he texted me. I was excited after a 38-0 win over a ranked opponent, and and all he said to me was, “When we get our hands on the football, we gotta catch it.”
December 24th, 2015 at 9:27 PM ^
I'm sure you made a great play regardless. Even if Chuck got a fingertip on one, he probably caught it, but that's what made him so great. That and his competitive nature. I think his greatness would make him an excellent coach some day.
December 24th, 2015 at 11:34 PM ^
sorry, that was a quote from Peppers from his article. I just wanted the Woodson quote at the end, but I thought it would be too obscure and needed more context.
December 24th, 2015 at 10:58 PM ^
It just dawned on me how perfect of a call that play by play guy made. I've been watching football a long time and I've still never seen another play like that.
December 25th, 2015 at 12:40 AM ^
was the voice of college football, Keith Jackson.
December 25th, 2015 at 1:55 AM ^
On the live broadcast, it was the color announcer, former coach Bill Curry, who described that play, not Keith.....
".....(Schulz) has no idea that Charles Woodson can jump 15 feet in the air...."
Pretty sure the play-by-play guy is Dave Barnett.
One of the best parts of the play for me is Dhani Jones crunching the intended receiver and driving him out of bounds, then looking for the ball and not being able to find it......also, not thinking that CW could somehow pick that pass off.....
December 25th, 2015 at 1:56 AM ^
No it wasn't. I know Keith Jacksons voice, as any other respectable football fan should. The guy that says "he has no idea Charles Woodson can jump 15 feet in the air" and "you can watch football a long time and never see a play like that again" is most assuredly not Keith Jackson.
December 24th, 2015 at 11:00 PM ^
...next to our hearts.
December 24th, 2015 at 8:14 PM ^
I'm excited to see him on offense.

Watched MSU 97 last night on Youtube. Both of his INTs were so clutch.
On another note I wish everyone wasn't so stoked on global warming. At least it's snowy and cold here in MT.
December 24th, 2015 at 9:08 PM ^
Global warming? The last two years were the coldest winters on record in the UP. If you lived here you'd enjoy the relief.

Just because the last two winters were cold doesn't mean global warming isn't happening...........
December 24th, 2015 at 11:23 PM ^
While climate change is happening, the temp differences we are seeing are a combination of El Niño and Arctic Oscillation. El Niño warms the Pacific which causes a warmer drift in the jet stream and the Arctic Oscillation is keeping the cold air further North. This may change very quickly and seems unlikely to be related to climate change. That would result in a 1 or 2 degree difference. Not 10-20+ degrees that we are seeing.

Agreed. I think unbiased satellite data is the best measure. It shows a slight decline in global temperatures since 2000.
December 24th, 2015 at 8:20 PM ^
Just dreaming, but I think recruits would take notice if he joined the staff in the future. He had one hell of a career in college and the pros!
74 and humid in Maryland tonight. Had to turn the A/C on.

Harbaugh goes out and gets who he thinks is best and I bet Woodson could be a great secondary coach. The obvious hang-up is that he has zero coaching experience at this point. I'd bet some FCS/DII school would hire him as-is for their secondary coach and hopefully he can work his way up to Michigan.
December 24th, 2015 at 10:41 PM ^
Problem with legendary players is that... most of the time the shit that makes them legendary is not really teachable...
How many HoF caliber players do you see turning into good coaches across all sports?
Very few.
Lenny Wilkins is one I can think of...
December 24th, 2015 at 11:13 PM ^
I've made that joke once before on why Woodson would be a terrible DB. "Coach Woodson. How am I supposed to get that? I can't jump 10 feet in the air"
December 24th, 2015 at 8:18 PM ^
I never thought I'd be emotional for a football players retirement, but here I am. A wreck. Charles was my childhood. Hate to see him leave the game he's the greatest ever at.

Over the top Michigan references during the pre game show were pretty awesome. Couldn't be happier for one of my all time favorite Wolverines. Charles Woodson going out on his own terms is great to see.

I loved watching Eisenhower be a homer. It helped ease the pain of no.2 retiring.
December 24th, 2015 at 10:37 PM ^
No lie--we have almost that exact same plate (same picture, different design). I picked it up at an antique store in Kansas when I was doing research at the Eisenhower library. It's always weirded me out a bit because it looks like Dwight's lipstick matches Mamie's.

Mother.Fucking.Autocorrect. This might be the best "mistake" that has happened to me yet.

What an amazing career!

This is effing great. Woodson an ole' timer for sure. What a career!

GOAT. By far in college and in the pros. I hope he coaches or is otherwise involved with the football program going forward.

A true professional

Can't wait to open my Charles Lego figure that we bought at the Mden a few weeks ago. Wife made it be my gift from the kids and I can't wait to get it open and displayed.

Don't open it, display it in the box.

think he meant open the wrapping paper.

CW is truly a class act & GOAT. He is going out while still playing at a very high level, as opposed to soooooooo many players and coaches in all sports who finally leave looking like a mess.
December 24th, 2015 at 8:48 PM ^
That's just because he happens to be doing so at such an old age at a physical position... I don't think he is thinking " I got a few years left in me, I'm going to go out while I'm on top"... I truly think he doesn't have any years left in him mentally and physically.

He's been quoted both before this year and since announcing his retirement that he feels he could physically play the game another 2-3 years or more, but his heart just isn't in it to do the year round grind and little things. Gotta respect that.
December 24th, 2015 at 8:36 PM ^
Just dipped below 80 here. Thank goodness for a/c and the pool.
Oh, and thanks for Charles too.

It was 79 here in NC today, can't believe I'm going to the beach on Christmas Day. It just feels wrong.
December 24th, 2015 at 10:38 PM ^
El Nino + Climate Change = Warm Christmas (Yay!)
(Passes buck down to grand children when Florida is underwater....)

This is not an issue for your grandchildren; it is already underway. The Ocean is expensive to hold back.

Almost forgot about this (Not huge on the NFL)...glad I decided to tape it.
December 25th, 2015 at 1:00 AM ^
Tape it? Please tell me you actually set the timer on your VCR!!!
December 25th, 2015 at 1:47 AM ^
It is Mr. Yost after all. I'm surprised he didn't have the major plays relayed to him by carrier pigeons.

Circumstance of age. I still "tape" things on my DVR. The kids are ready to put me in storage...

Great pregame interview with Tracy Wolfson (a Michigan grad/fan)
December 24th, 2015 at 8:39 PM ^
He could have gotten an INT in the end zone on the chargers first drive but his own teammate knocked it away. Backfired as SD scored on the drive.

He was a little late on that play. No guarantee he would have won the battle.
Who am I kidding? He would have taken it 102 yards to the house. GOAT!
