Charles Woodson appealing for 3:30pm start for The Game on Facebook
I have not seen this posted or mentioned, but Charles Woodson is appealing for a 3:30pm kickoff (or later?) for The Game. He states that he and Eddie George recently discussed this, they both are in agreement, and that they are trying to rally momentum for this idea.
Here is his Facebook statement:

Then you won't have your Saturday ruined until three and a half hours later.

9:00 - 12:00: College Gameday
12:00 - 3:00 The Game
(3:00 -12:00 Joy/sadness depending on outcome)
3:00 - 12:00 flipping between all of the other great rivalry games that day
Sunday
9:00: If we lost, spending first two hours of morning depressed and reading all media relating to The Game
If we won, doing the same but happy
So as you can see, there really is no time in the day to squeeze anything in.
All Conference games at noon, maybe a night game every hundred years or so. I guess I do not mind a September game at 3:30 because the daylight is longer.
Well, let's all just figure out how we can plan our day around your hiking schedule, then.
i'm with you. If anything, I'd much rather the game be played later in the day. Allows you to still get things done around the house and have something to look forward to later in the day. Then I'm not having to take a break half way through whatever I'm doing then get remotivated to get back on it after the game. I don't understand why people are so adamant that games be played at noon.
Well, I don't know if you've been watching the last few years of Michigan football, but I sure as hell am in no shape to do anything else after three hours of that.
My wife and I, then having lived south of the Ohio River for more than twenty years made the trek to Ann Arbor to watch the late November (post Thanksgiving) Game, and we were fully prepared for cold. Imagine our surprise when noon time KO temps were hovering around 60 F, and didn't fall below 40 F until midnight or so.
For Michigan, that was awesome weather really, the 2011 game - I think the high that day might have been 64 degrees, which is about 20 degrees above the historic average. It could be just me, but we've had a lot of milder falls in the last ten years, at least mild for the most part, so 3:30 PM in late November is certainly not the worst if you want to play a game in Ann Arbor then. Not sure if it would ever happen, of course, scheduling being what it is.

He is saying The Game "should be no earlier than 3:30pm".
"No earlier than 3:30pm..."
My belief is that Woodson and George are desirous of The Game having greater national exposure because let's face it, most people ignore games that KO before 3:30 PM. Today's noon games are the Thursday Night games of twenty years ago, something to fill TV time until the really interesting games start.

I'm not a big fan of that game.

...but I see nothing wrong with a 3:30p kick. When people complain about it, it's quite annoying. The stadium is never full and it never feels like classic games are that early.
I miss the days when 3:30 was a "special" game and noon was your cupcake/pushover type games. That was always the best, IMO.
Now even 3:30 games are devalued IMO by the relentless push to put every "big" event at night, for all sports, to accomodate televsion. I hate this, but that's a personal thing I guess.

The Game was featured as a twilight last gleaming contest, the battle between the two college titans turned out to be a remarkably entertaining game. I have always liked the noon start for the rivalry because of the anticipation of it. But clearly when this game became a national standard for excellence during the 10-year war period, the set time for it was dictated as much by team and fan travel considerations as it was by calculating audience shares from TV coverage.
Now, of course, with rights fees through the roof, and witht the understanding that the mid-afternoon contest is not even the primetime matchup on Saturdays anymore, the noon window has become a dumping ground for lesser games. And because of that feeling, I think the noon start for Michigan-Ohio State, while traditional, still suffers.
Charles shouldn't be too concerned, however. Because Michigan gave some thought about whether to make Michigan State and Ohio State evening affairs this year, before deciding against it. Interestingly, Michigan has played MSU at varying afternoon times, again because the question of trtavel is essentially not an issue for that game.
Noon or 1 pm kickoffs are pretty limited. With Harbaugh's hiring, Michigan has also raised the stature of their contests just by the coaching matchups it will have week to week this fall. I can't imagine a more classic matchup that Harbaugh-Urban Meyer on the final Saturday in Alabama-Auburn are faring this year and other strategic regional rivalries on Thanksgiving weekend.
Here's the thing though: Michigan gets to set the gametime. So, we shall see.
No. Every game should be played at Noon.
Don't you dare touch The Game. I get why the did in 2006 since it was a once in a lifetime scenario of #1 vs #2, but come on. It's almost December and you want to play into the darkness outside in Michigan?
No. Never.
Neg away, noon haterz.
Sir Charles has currency of which you can merely dream.

The NFL isn't what college football should be like. At all.
The weather at college and NFL games has been alike since the NFL started playing ball. I don't think it's a bad idea to keep that going.
