Yeah, I'll make fun of any rivals' player that fails in the NFL. It's totally different to take pleasure at a human failing in life, or that is affected by health issues. More than blaming it on the Lions, I wonder what it would have been had his career not started by breaking his collarbone and missing the season two years in a row. His addiction might originate there. Anyway, I definitely don't view him under the same light as Glenn Winston.

Anybody who watched Rogers play during his senior year and was paying attention would known the Andre Johnson was a far better draft choice, but no, the Lions had to make the dumb pick of Rogers. Johnson went with the next pick to Houston, and all he has done is to become one of the league's best receivers, with three Pro Bowl selections, while Rogers is one of the most notably pathetic flameouts in recent draft history. I attended the MSU-Rice game up in EL in Rogers's senior year, and I specifically focused on Rogers when MSU was on offense. Rogers was lackadaisical and indifferent in running his routes and blocking when he was not the primary target. It was a dead tipoff to any DB as it was so blatantly obvious when he was going to get the ball or not. The Lions also passed on picking Troy Polamalu (picked at 19 by the Steelers), and Terrance Newman (picked at 5 by the Cowboys), who has been a Pro Bowl DB for the Cowboys. This is how you make a crappy team, and Matt Millen was a wizard at it.

Everybody says they were a genius regarding draft picks after the fact, but I agree with you a 100%. I was telling everyone at the time take Johnson. Everyone misses on draft picks, but the thing that staggers me about the Lions picking Rogers is that at some point they had to sit down with this guy and talk with him. If you spent 5 minutes with this guy and said yes sir we're going to win a Super Bowl with this guy let's give him 30 million dollars you deserve what you get. They pay people big money for background checks and they still too him just amazing

This is another reason to ask the parents of prospective MSU recruits, "Do you really want your son to spend the next four years of his life in that kind of an environment?" Like it or not, negative recruiting is part of the game. If I were competing with MSU for a recruit, I would carry a list of current and ex-MSU players who have gotten in trouble with the law, and give a copy to the parents. After all, Tom Izzo got a lot of mileage out of the Ed Martin fiasco, and may still be using it to discourage recruits from going to Michigan. I say turnabout is fair play, even if the sport is different.

on MSU... this quote doesn't hold much weight... "If I were competing with MSU for a recruit, I would carry a list of current and ex-MSU players who have gotten in trouble with the law, and give a copy to the parents." lets not throw stones here... michigan has had their fair share of kids that have gotten in trouble. i believe there is a post from chitown that lists every kid who got in trouble during the carr era...

what you are saying... michigan players are ganging up and rushing houses and dorms to beat people up. but i found chitowns post: http://mgoblog.com/diaries/coach-tressels-dirty-thirty#comment-7585 its #5 in the thread.... i'll let you make you make the call on how severe some of them are... all i was trying to say is that michigan has skeletons of past player transgressions in their closet...

Addiction is a very serious and very personal problem. Like many individuals with multiple arrests, his problems with the law are inherently and inextricably tied to deeper issues related to addiction. I think we should think good thoughts/send up prayers for him and hope he has the courage to make major changes in his life before it's too late.

Basically what I was going to say, but said better and probably in a slightly nicer tone. Dude obviously has some serious issues and needs help. I hope he is able to yet make something of his life, though with each subsequent arrest/screwup that possibility seems less and less likely.

sure he's an ex MSU player bur this has nothing to do with MSU unless Dantonio were to come to his side saying Rogers is a misunderstood individual and we need to understand his pain.

just had too many baskets of chips and salsa before his wet burrito arrived. I have done that, and after the meal I did't feel like talking or walking or keeping my eyes open either.

On The Boarder. 8 Mile and Haggerty right by the Best Buy. One of my friends works there and she said he was just passed out at the bar. Her managers tried several times to wake him up but, apparently was a little bit intoxicated. I grew up in Northville and still live here. Charles lives literally two blocks away from the restaurant in a gated community off 8 mile. The homes in there are massive! I'm not quite sure how he's pulling it off, last time I heard he owes the Lions like $14 mil. But seriously I do feel sorry for him. He had all the talent to be a good to great WR. I think when he broke his collarbone the first time the wheels came off the track, when it happened the second time it completely derailed him. Dude needs some help badly. And passing out in your car in Northville/Novi is probably one of the worst places to do so. The cops here really have nothing else to do but to bust the high school kids and pull people over for random reasons. I can personally say I've been pulled over at least 7 times since I started driving. Oddly though I was only issued ONE ticket out of all those stops. Gets some help Chuck! Or at least sit and get drunk in your big ass mansion where no one will bother you and more importantly you will not be endangering others around you.

I'm just wondering why this came from a Chicago-based news source. Did the freep "forget" to report this story, or did the OP "choose" not to link to it?

I used to live in Novi. It's too bad I moved. Otherwise, maybe I could have witnessed some of this Rogers nonsense. I do eat a lot of Mexican food...

This isn't shocking news since his baby's momma stuck him in a leg with a fork back then. Word was Lloyd was only recruiting him to keep him away from MSU, but hoping he picked Florida State or something. He was good, so you didn't want to play him, but not Michigan material.
