Charges Dropped Against Football Player

Submitted by gater on

According to Dave Birkett, charges have been dropped in the alleged rape case against the Michigan Football Player. While this is good for the player and the program, I hope this is the correct outcome and she wasn't pressured into dropping charges.

@davebirkett: AAPD drops investigation of #Michigan football player accused of sexual assault. Victim doesn't want to press charges.

This sounds like the GF/Friend of a football player type incident. Something happened. But, ultimately, since they are friends, they likely resolved it outside of the courts.

I'm thinking/hoping there was no "fire to this smoke" and that the whole thing was a drunk night where a boyfriend and girlfriend got into a fight.

It's usually the other way around, but it's good to see that the charges were dropped and the said player didn't sexually assault a woman.

I think Rodriguez has done well with disciplinary problems, especially in relation to Dantonio, so it's nice to see this get dropped and the focus to be on our on field problems, not off the field ones.

I know a man who lives in the hall with the player. I don't know much about the incident and wish to avoid names and other personal stuff. I can say that the victim was the players girlfriend though. This is most likely the reason behind the charges being dropped.

that article Rosenberg already had written about this will never see the light of day. On the bright side, I can just picture him slamming down his coffee mug in disgust.

While I'm relieved that this turned out to be a non-issue, the cynic in me hopes that it was resolved fairly between the parties and not dropped simply because of family/school/team pressures and/or financial incentive. From what I've read here and other places, it does sound like more of a misunderstanding than anything truly sinister.

Anyone who mentions a bullet being dodged, or Dantonio, or anything of that nature ought to go stand in a corner. Nothing good comes of anything even tangentially related to this topic. Let's all just be momentarily: glad that charges won't be pressed, hopeful that this reflects a just reality, ready to shoot the entire discussion into the sun.

Having been very close to the situation, without any previous bias towards the individuals, I can honestly say that the dropping of charge was IMO absolutely the correct outcome. I could not believe it when the charges were brought up in the first place based on the events or information around the incident. Glad that this is over with and I hope the girl has learned that accusations like this can extremely effect peoples lives and should not be taken lightly at all.

Michigan FB has had enough distractions outside of the actual football and it is about time to get back to the game.
