What the hell is 'Sports Final Edition'?
Sorry, I'm going to trust TomVH and ... Tate's dad.
What the hell is 'Sports Final Edition'?
Sorry, I'm going to trust TomVH and ... Tate's dad.
It's a local late night sports roundup type show either on channel 4 or 7 (can't remember) in Detroit.
Channel 4, WDIV in Detroit. Sunday night sports show at 11:30 after the news.
No need to be "sorry" David. Just found it interesting they led with this breaking news.
Can you edit the thread title? I'd change it to "Channel 4-WDIV" instead of "Sports Final Edition" to make it clearer to people who exactly is saying this. Not sure if you can edit thread titles though.
Thanks for the advice. Done.
So they are saying he transfered or he is going to announce that he is?
There is no reason to believe one word coming out of Tate's mouth or his dad's. It is completely in his best interest to say nothing other than "Tate is never transferring".....for multiple reasons I might add.
Maybe he stays, maybe not. But if you or anyone else are counting on him staying becuase of his dad's comments you are nuts.
Wake me up when there are papers submitted.
Can we please stop with this... I mean it's so speculative at this point and does no good.
For all we know they may not even have a scoop, could have just ran with Tate's "I'm out" comment from yesterday, and deduced that the earliest he'd announce would be tomorrow, then packaged those 2 things together and called it "breaking".
I give TomVH's interview w/ Mr. Forcier 1000 times more weight than this.
So, hopefully this gets locked. If he transfers, he transfers, and we can talk about it then. But in the meantime, speculating and stewing about the possibility does no one any good.
Let's celebrate the win and discuss ND.
I really gave minimal weight to Mr. Forcier's interview. And not to speak for Tom but I also believe Tom may have been giving it minimal weight as well, vis a vis the disclaimers.
Why?? The speed in which Mr. Forcier responded told me that he was understandably attempting some measure of damage control. I mean, he had to know how bad Tate's actions must have appeared before a national television audience. And what father would not want to change the narrative? What father would not want to protect their son? But really, how likely is it that Mr. Forcier managed to have a heart to heart talk with Tate before giving that interview with Tom? How likely was it that the option of whether or not to transfer or stick it out was discussed with Tate/his advisors/his brothers/etc etc within the short time that Mr. Forcier put out his statements attempting to quash the transfer rumors? Not likely. Not likely that such an in -depth and thorough discussion took place with Tate within that very short, roughly 2 hour time span before giving the interview with Tom.
I believe the real decision about whether to stay or go will come sometime this week. Possibly even tomorrow. After Team Forcier has had time to huddle, gather their thoughts and hash this thing out.
That said, I believe that it is not likely that Tate will transfer. Although the father was clearly attempting to spin the story, one of the things that I gleaned from the father's comments is that the father does not believe the transfer option to be the panacea that they once thought that it was. I believe that Mr.Forcier has learned through trial and error to not be so hasty to just pack it in. And that bodes well for keeping Tate a Wolverine.
All of this said, I don't believe that any decision would have hit the news this fast and in this way. I don't believe this news story.
I agree. I hope Tate stays, but everything i've seen has shown that RRod really cares about his players and does a pretty great job trying to develop them as adults as well as students and football players. Until I get concrete information otherwise, I'm going to assume there is a damn good reason why he didn't play Tate and that Tate is going to be worse off for leaving at this point than if he stayed and wrestled with whatever is going on that we can see. Best of luck to him and if he chooses to leave, I'd like to thank him for trying his best last year in a tough year.
This. Although I disagree on Tate's ultimate decision to xfer. Sure, transfers have worked out badly for Jason and Chris... but Tate is that family's last best hope for the glory they clearly want... if Tate doesn't believe he has a chance at re-earning the starting job, I bet he leaves.
I could buy that. It's still speculative but definitely plausible.
I think it's pretty legit when a local news station feels comfortable enough to break a story. This isn't the Detroit Free Press we are talking about here. WDIV doesn't use the shock and awe approach to gain viewership. Our local news stations build off reputation. Just my two cents.
Just read a little further down that Channel 4 is affiliated with the Freep. Woooops. lol
I here there's some hot bikini model working there.
I will believe it when Tom, Tim, or Brian tell me.
If your talking about Sports Final Edition on Channel 4 (NBC), I've been watching it the whole time and they didn't even mention Tate's name.
Delete the thread.
Then you missed the first 20 seconds.
No I didn't.
But instead listened to his brothers...
And please tell me the source is Rob Parker who is wrong much more often than he is correct. I'd much rather see Tate hang in there and get through this as a Wolverine.
How does Rob Parker still have gainful employment? Is there no (sports loving) God in the world?
As little credibility Rob Parker has, I have to say it was hilarious watching him ask Rod Marinelli if he wished his daughter had married a better defensive coordinator!
I agree. What the hell is Sports Final Edition?
Any TV program that employs Rob Parker as their insider is inherently untrustworthy
If it was Rob Schneider, I would believe it. But not Rob Parker. No way.
I can't imagine how aspiring sports reporters feel when they can't find work, and guys like Parker and Albom get caught making stuff up, and keep their jobs.
But he is a regular contributor to SFE, while not an employee of WDIV.
I had almost forgotten about Parker's fabricated story on the allegation that Kirk Cousins was in a bar fight in East Lansing, when he was, uh, actually in church with his parents:
How he didn't lose his job and get the shit sued out of him at the same time is beyond me.
He is an employee of WDIV. While he's not part of their regular on-air staff (at my last check, anyway), he writes a column for their website.
"contibution." i.e., pay-per column, blog post, show, etc.
The shitty thing about the original story, as is shitty with all anonymously-sourced stories, is we don't know who to attribute it to. A really good question for WDIV right now is who was their source? And why does that source need anonymity?
People have gotten so used to anonymous sources, that we have completely forgotten that they were supposed to be rare in journalism. There is supposed to be a reason, and a stated reason at that, as to why a source is given anonymity.
WDIV didn't even making a passing attempt at that in this case. She did not say, "This is a report, confirmed by two anonymous sources who spoke on condition of anonymity because they are [team officials who were not authorized to speak]... [friends of Tate Forcier who asked for anonymity]... [University officials who demanded anonymity because they would be in jeopardy of prosecution if they revealed private student information]..." etc.,etc.
This one is really, really weak, by any sensible journalism standards. It is really hard to think of any good reason for there to be a grant of anonymity in this case. Which makes the sourcing, and thereby the whole story, totally suspect.
Look, it has been 24 hours. Even the Freep appears to want to stay away from this story. The Freep guys are smart; their memories go way back. All the way back to, say, a couple of weeks ago, when Melanie Collins got her booty in a ringer and had to eat her own Tate-transfer Twitter-rumor.
Wouldn't it be funny as hell, if Tate did this just to f#*& with some of the reporters. Katrina Hancock, meet Melanie Collins. And if Rob Parker was involved, so much the better.
I am going to want to hear more about this story when it is confirmed that Tate Forcier is a true 2010 Wolverine. It should be and willl be a HUGE embarassment to WDIV.
Hmmm. I will wait before I start freaking out.
what is up Tom? I'll await your clarification...
He already did... It's on the front page
...your certainty as a percentage? Tate's Dad did that, and to be credible your claim has to be more certain than his.
MY certainty about what Tate will do is 0. My certainty that Sports Final Edition is leading with "breaking" news that Tate is transferring and will announce as early as tomorrow is 100%, which falls short of Tate's Dad.
Jeebus people, just passing along MSM "breaking" news. I'm not helping the dude pack his bags and driving him to GVSU!
...until you edited your post and title, it looked like you were trolling.
I hear Taylor Swift's brother might transfer to Michigan, pending the outcome of Saturday's game.
nevermind. Stupid new formatting.
...of late I am down on the newbs.
Rabble Rabble Rabble.....
Is associated with the Detroit Free Press... just fyi. In like every other segment it has a link to the Freep.
I'm not sayin... I'm just sayin.
There are no videos on that youtube page
Was just about to say this. It may still be processing, I guess.
Actually, the video was there - I watched it when the OP first put up the link. And what he said was true. But its weird that its gone now. Its also weird that the video was up so fast.
It's here now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZViRBV-Ews
Is this nearly inaudible for anybody else?
It was quiet for me, but i could hear it fine when i cranked my speakers up.
Do you mind uploading in portrait view for us android users?
You are full of sausage
Is that a bad thing?
That depends on how it got there.
Your phone is a dirty liar.
This link works, thanks.
I've got to wonder about their "sources"...
The reporter said "he is set to transfer, and an announcement could be as early as tommarrow." Lies? Maybe.
I hope that Tate can pull it together and stay. He will be a part of something special if he does. If not this is the ultimate Sports Illustrated cover jinx
As early as tomorrow...or as late as never.
I am sorry, but that woman should not be doing sports reporting. As a self-appointed representative of the sports obsessed male pigs in this world a female sports reporter is required to be hot and she just aint cutting it. The crap flowing from her mouth I found rather distasteful also. Go interview some of the Sparty players in the pokey for some interesting stories about soap, sharpened toothbrushes and male bonding.
I think she was reading the story from the teleprompter being operated by some guy wearing a sweatervest sipping a wine cooler.
The initial rumor can't be trusted because it's from a woman who looks good in a bikini and now this one's unacceptable because the woman's not attractive. That's logical.
Yes it is from the pig headed armchair QB angle I was trying to create. It, like nearly everything I ever post, was in jest to get a reaction.
Here is the clip:
As far as I can tell, the original poster did nothing but state what he heard on a news program that is known in the Detroit area and <em>could</em> have some credibility. Let's not bash him for doing this; even if we don't like the reported story.
Agreed. He's just telling us what he heard. And it's from an arguably major source, being one of the flagship metro area news stations. I still think it sounds sketchy; they sure didn't go into detail on it.
All this rumor and internet bs seriously makes it hard to trust anything anymore. I don't like it.
More like television BS at this point, since there is proof of what was said on the show. Either way, Tate's decision could change overnight so no one really "knows".
If a got a dime everytime i heard Tate was transferring i could create my own Crap Spewing Rumor Network, or CSRN.
Where there's smoke, there's usually fire...
uh-oh. magnus, do you know something?
No, Magnus doesn't know anything more than the rest of us ... or Rob Parker.
I will give you half my MGoPoints--or sweet talk Geaux_Blue into granting you the equivalent of it--if you start a DONT PANIC OUR THIRD STRING QB IS LEAVING thread.
Just for old times sakes.
That's . . . not a bad idea.
Well she is smoking hot.
After Tate's performace on Saturday, I would not be surprised if he transfered. Once you start getting all wrapped up in your own self-pity, it can lead to all kinds of ill thought out decisions...
Sports Final Edition is coming on in 5 minutes. Better get my camera out and start recording the TV. lmao
They auto-record the channel you're watching. Hit rewind and presto. No advance planning required. It's 2010, not 1988.
The video everyone's referencing is recorded with a camera.
1. Pick up iPhone and get ready to record; 2: Rewind DVR; 3: Push play on DVR; 4: Push record on iPhone; 5: Upload to Youtube from iPhone; 6: Publish link
Welcome to 2010!
And... you're missing the joke...
Guess you had to be here from the start of this thread. The OP was obviously watching Channel 4 and saw the report. He then posted here (without any video) and was called out on it. My semi-educated guess is that he then rewound his DVR and captured the video on his iPhone so we could all see for ourselves. My apologies for trying to defend the OP a bit.
You're absolutely correct. Now that it's 2010, I need to rethink this whole mgovideo thing. I don't even have an iPhone!
Here ya go...
If Tate was sitting for disciplinary reasons he will hang around, if he was sitting because he is the distant third string at this point a transfer would not suprise me at some point in the future. It would be unfortunate for all involved if is does happen...
Well, if I have learned one thing from hanging around these parts for a while, its to not outright reject something because it's labeled "a rumor".
I admit I know little about this, but since he has started the semester doesn't he have to wait until next semester to transfer anyway? The only benefit I could see for transfering now (or filing papers) is so that he doesn't lose a year of eligibility -- if he were to get playing time later this year. I am also not sure when the clock for sitting out a year begins -- if this year is burned anyway, he'd be better off waiting things out and seeing what happens during the season.
In the interim, I'll take Tom VH and Mr. Fordier's info over a local newshack (see earlier thread about a national sports web-site that ran a similar story until someone linked Tom VH's interview and they rescinded it)
If it turns out to be true - It is a big loss for Michigan AND Tate. To me it would speak volumes for Tate's personality and indicate that maybe he wasn't a good fit for the team despite the physical gifts and years of training. (Of course it is very easy to sit here on the outside looking in and with 20+ years more perspective on life than Tate)
As an resident of the Phoenix area - I can look in the local paper for a story of a QB with great talent that couldn't put things together in terms of leadership and attitude and ended (to date) in failure -- albeit getting paid many millions for that failure.
It's probably not the end of drop/add period yet, so, feasibly he could withdraw from U of M and enroll at another school immediately if he's granted release.
If this were to happen though, it'd have to be sooner rather than later.
So bascially this probably happens today or tomorrow, or, he'll be here the rest of the season/semester.
Disclaimer: I don't know what UM's academic calendar looks like, so, drop/add period could be over already.
Class hasn't even started yet.
seriously. until someone of importance with actual people besides fictional sources says that Tate is transferring I'll dismiss this as everyone else should as tumor mongering
Tumor mongering sounds pretty bad. There should be a public service announcement about it or something.
going to bed rivals dismissing it (it seems from subject line reading)
Do you think Tate is just envious of the love that
Donald Donald Denard is getting now?
Tumor mongering gets us nowhere, and nobody likes cancer (sorry, I couldn't resist: just trying to laugh myself through all this garbage).
^^^BraveWolverine beat me to it! Well done sir!
will probably give all of us tumors especially rich rod
***new at 11 and on the front page of the freep***
rich rod gives tumors to Michigan fans!
ZMOG TATE HAS CANCER??????!!!!!!!!! IT WAS ON THE TV???????????!!!!!!!!!!!
I hope the use of tumor was a typo. This could upset and or offend any number of people who's lives have been touched by cancer. Maybe a different wording or method should have been utilized to convey your thoughts. If we would all quit speaking our minds and take up most of our productive lives worrying about the fact that there might be a person out there we might offend when engaging in conversation, no matter how grossly over-sensitive the person may be, the world would be better for it. /s
Although cancer is certainly a serious issue, this sitting in judgment of everyone believing Im above all those around me just doesnt work for me. I guess I'll never make it as a member of the PC police. I may have just committed the most un-PC act one can, I accused Political Correctness of being a parasite preventing society from addressing real issues by choosing rather to sweep them under the rug.
Sorry Im ranting, bad mood and drank too much this evening.
On QWERTY keyboards, note that the letter "t" is right next to the letter "r".
Thus, accidentally typing "tumor" instead of "rumor" is a very real possibility.
I wasnt being serious, just took the opportunity to poke a little fun at the morality police
It means "sarcasm".
In one post, you're a horrible sexist douche and in another you're a horrible humorless douche. I can't decide which is worse
The first was simply commenting on her being a low-life for spreading rumors that we all hope are false while playing on the stereotypical male beer guzzling armchair quarterback with a side of Tressel bashing. It may have been too subtle, but it was all in jest.
This one was commenting on people being too sensitive and self-absorbed and thereby suppressing free speech in our society. I seriously doubt it was PC to speak against slavery in the deep south prior to the Civil War yet I think we all would have admiration for the people that were willing to do it. The ones who did likely faced public persecution or worse for their beliefs. I'm just saying the best coarse of action is not always the course of action that passifies. It bothers me when people lash out against the speech of others for no other reason than to make themselves or some perceived third party 'feel' better. Being a productive, accepting and open-minded member of society can make one 'feel' good as well. I find it interesting the responses one can provoke when creating situations tempting others to sit in judgment--I often wonder if the loudest and most judmental reactions are from those who have the most to hide. Its a thought.
If you dont think persecution doesnt supress people feeling free to speak their minds you are not from this planet. Im sure their have been many persecuted persons, Shiites in Irag, Jewish persons in Nazi Germany, etc, that chose not to speak because of the social climate of the time. Being at the receiving end of society's rath is not a place for most to feel comfortable to express their views.
Also, I am well aware of the Constitutional implications of free speech. Although I dont practice Con Law, I am well aware of the guarantees our Constitution provides as it is interpreted and reinterpreted over time. Great little piece of legislative work. Made vague enough that it can fit the changing ideals of society for over 200 years. Not to many works except for some religious texts can claim as much without changes over time.
I reviewed what I wrote and I am certain I never referred to the US Constitution or the federal government legislating control over free speech, but I am impressed at your attempt to read that into it. I am sorry if I confused you by using 'people' and you mistook that for 'we, the people...'. That shows creative thinking skills and worked well to make your point, although incorrect, more believable. Kudos
Isn't it funny how a blog, which reportedly is of "unverified voracity" is more trusted than actual mainstream news outlets?
I'm not sure if this is funny or sad... the current state of journalism is scarily sliding closer and closer to entertainment...
It's already slid home
To a large degree, I would agree. I like to think that there are still a few bastions left where people have some journalistic integrity...
I agree. The whole Lebron and Izzo time period when a new source published their rumors as news really did it in for me. However I still scour mgoblog and espn daily for the news. I dont know if its legut but I usually dont believe a story until ESPN runs it because a lot of sports blogs and twitter is just chatter. Often it becomes truth, but just as often its bullshit.
I think Tate leaves eventually though, especially if Denard has a good game against ND.
In other news... Les Miles is the next head coach of Michigan! And Tenuta's the defensive coordinator!!!
He will know that the next time he is heard it will matter so much less.
I hope this is all just a ploy to confuse Notre Dame. Then on Saturday RichRod deploys both Denard and Tate to shred their D. And by the 3rd quarter Devin gets extensive playing time/experience after we are up by 30pts.
One can hope....GO BLUE!!!
TF stays than if he leaves. Which would be unfortunate as hell, but I suspect that the idea of playing in this offense, which requires him to carry the ball into traffic so often, is growing less and less attractive by the day. As the least dynamic runner on the 3-deep, Tate knows that he's low man on RR's totem pole, which was made abundantly clear on Saturday. I hope he stays and plays and matures and gets a UM degree, but my hunch is that he'll leave for another program where the QB has a more "traditional" role and more conventional route to the NFL. I wouldn't be surprised if San Diego State would be in the mix.
Physically he doesnt fit the more traditional role. Not saying it would be here, but if the NFL is his goal, going somewhere to showcase versatility in spite of his size would be better. Lets face it, there are a number of sub 6ft qbs with all the tools that dont even get a look for pro ball because of their stature. I am in agreement with you that transferring is likely. He is looking up from #3 and possibly #4 with another mobile QB with DGs size committed for next year.
Good luck with that. No matter what he would do at SDSU it wouldn't get him to the NFL pretty much guarunteed. Even NCAA passing record holder Timmy Chang didn't get to the NFL I don't think, and he was in the same conference. I don't want to see you go Tate, as a fan of your team and as a fan of you. It would be a huge mistake.
Timmy Chang did get to the NFL. He was also a starter in the CFL for a while.
Tate has an okay chance of playing pro ball, to be honest. He won't start in an American league, but he'd be a fine CFL QB and a solid NFL backup
From a purely selfish point of view, I think RR should be trying hard to get Tate to stay. Without him we are 1 hit away from having a true freshman as our only QB. That's scary.
those who stay will be champions
there's a nugget of truth to the metaphor...
It's a statement: not a metaphor.
I'm done worrying about it.
I hope he stays...
But I doubt RR burnt Devins redshirt on two plays just to teach Tate a lesson. It appears Tate is the third string QB and I trust RR to make that decision (regardless of how scary I may find it from the outside). I'm not going to freak out over losing what appears to be our 3rd string QB. I don't think having Devin at back-up is some mind game and odds are pretty good Tate won't be playing anyway.
I wish the Tate the best should he go and thank him for the few good memories I have of last season.
I don't view him as a 3rd stringer, i view Devin as a 2a and him 2b. Denard was only out for two plays, but what happens if something (please god no) bigger happens and Devins freshman nerves get the better of him or something in a close game?
It would be nice to have that option and depth.
But it seems clear to me that RR gives the edge to Devin. Tate may as close to starting as any 3rd stringer has ever been. But there's still a good chance he'll never see the field again aside from "garbage time".
I expect Devin will get alot of time against UMASS, BG, and possibly Indiana if we can get a comfortable lead. I see RR trying to get him ready to step in for Denard.
...I just can't get past burning Devins redshirt if there isn't a strong feeling he's the legit #2.
There's still plenty of time. The Medical redshirt is still available in case somebody comes down with a mysterious injury.
Denard and his performance has been all over the interweb, including the front page of ESPN, even getting the Heisman frontrunner label by Dennis Dodd at CBS. I hope whatever has been going on in Tate's head since the game is a lapse in checking his ego or an episode of jealousy that passes quickly. It's gotta be tough not only being demoted to #3 after being a starter, but the media being all over it, and I don't think it matters if you're 19 or 91 or anywhere in between.
If you've been to his family's QBForce website, he knows what it is to be and how to talk like a leader, a team guy, and a QB. The way that he handled questions at media day, Troy's comments, and the wingless helmet was a positive sign that he is able to handle adversity that EVERY single Michigan QB has and will go through. The media attention, competition, getting pushed, and pushing others are what has made Michigan QBs into great professionals (whether it be in the NFL or in the "regular" workplace).
I hope he wakes up tomorrow with a clearer mind and continues to fight for playing time at Michigan. We throw a lot of Michigan clichés around here, but this is truely a case where "those who stay will be champions." Tate, stay and fight - for the team, for yourself and for what you say you stand for.
I think tomorrow comes and goes with no announcement.
really think that we could go all day (sunday) without hearing something about a possible tate transfer??? if there were actual rumors out there, we would have known something before sports final edition hit the air waves at 11:30pm... i didn't watch the video, but any show that allows rob parker to spew false info about a player who was at church, shouldn't be trusted as a credible source of information...
to persuade him to not transfer.
Source? Route? Is he taking Route 66? I hope he stops in Amarillo for one of those 60oz steaks.
Let's all hope that Tate can hang in there until thursday when his dad arrives.
She has a deep voice, I think that's hot. Oh, it sounded to me they were reporting on a rumor, and it won't be for sure until today? Anyway, don't know if Forcier is big enough, literally, to take a back seat after starting all last year. That would take a level o maturity I'm not sure he has...
Just a thought -- if Bo were running things, how much tolerance would he have for Tate's behavior? Some of us are making excuses for his immaturity on Saturday--"he's just 19"--and I get it--we don't want to drive away a good player who can help us win. But seriously people, after a huge and critical win against a good UConn team, Tate was sour and pissy. That tells you all you need to know about whether he puts himself or the team first.
All we need to learn now is: is he a quitter? Does he think that he can make it to the next level? Well if he can't be the first- or second-string QB at Michigan, does he seriously think he's making it to the NFL? My advice to Tate: gut it out, suck it up, and compete for the job. Not because we Michigan fans need you, but because if all you know how to do is quit when you face adversity, then you'll never be a champion in anything you do.
I think Bo would've kicked Tate off the team Saturday night, end of story.
Bo would not have dismissed his only other experienced QB on the roster. He wasn't the two-dimensional cardboard figure people are making him out to be.
It seems like these days Bo is just a name people throw out to justify their opinions.
"BO WOULD HAVE BEEN AGAINST NOT PLAYING OSU FOR A CONFERENCE TITLE!"
"BO WOULD NEVER WANT THE GAME MOVED!"
"BO WOULD HAVE KICKED TATE OFF THE TEAM!"
"BO WOULD HAVE GONE WITH THE BEST PASSER AND LET DENARD ROT ON THE BENCH!"
Let's not evoke dead coaches none of us knew personally in these debates. The derpiest part is that, more often than not, the person evoking him is 25 and has no memory of Bo as a coach.
I recall something about Anthony Carter leaving the team during his freshman year. If my memory serves me correctly he packed his bags and was headed back to Florida. It was Bo that brought him back.
Glad I missed it last night and got some sleep.
Three quick points.
1. The point about a Tate transfer before classes start meaning he could play next year makes the most sense to me.
2. Maybe he's known he's third on the depth chart for some time. I can't believe DG is truly ahead of him, but maybe Tate's been out of sorts since the Spring Game.
3. Maybe RichRod didn't publicly name a starter not because he didn't know it was Denard. Maybe it's because he had a good idea Tate would bolt. And he didn't want that sideshow and distraction before the UConn game. Which is exactly what he got 10 minutes after the game.
I can't begin to know what it must be like for Tate. I would only offer that if he does leave at this point it tells me he didn't really want to play football at Michigan. He wanted to be a starting QB at a big school, in this case one with some connection to the family.
That's a big difference, perhaps even the Michigan Difference.
If he leaves, best of luck, thanks, bye-bye, etc.
I wish somebody would have run up to tate and did this:
In order to transfer, Tate would have to get Rodriguez to sign off on it. He's in a contract with Michigan until his eligibility is up, unless Michigan lets him out. Otherwise, he can't go anywhere and play football.
Considering that, even if Tate is considering transferring, does anyone really think that Rodriguez is just going to let Tate go? He recruited Tate hard and he wants him here. Tate may have pissed off his teammates and the coaching staff for his antics over the summer, but word has it that he has been all business since he came to fall camp and has earned back the respect of his teammates and his coaches.
Saturday could have been Rod's way of sending a final message to Tate before letting him back onto the game field. Remember, workouts are voluntary, but so is playing time.
"does anyone really think that Rodriguez is just going to let Tate go? "
Have you paid attention to RR since he got here? If we know one thing, we know RR will not keep a kid here who does not want to be here. He wants 1) what is best for these kids; and 2) for everyone here to want to be here. In no way will RR keep Tate here if he doesn't want to be here. Honestly, this take on our coach, that he will trap a kid here, is borderline offensive, way over the line ignorant.
And on a side note, whose college wears yellow and blue?
I never suggested that Rodriguez would "trap" Tate. My point was, Tate can't just up and leave (and play DI football) because he felt jilted, and Rodriguez won't just let him go without talking to him. This is a different situation than some insolent player who doesn't like the new coach. Tate wants to be here and he wants to play. And Rod knows he has to prevent an impulsive decision by a young man who might act rashly because he didn't get any PT on Saturday. Now, if Tate doesn't want to compete for the starting position and wants to go somewhere else where he'll be guaranteed to be the starter, Rod will probably help him pack.
And on a side note, ever heard the Michigan alma mater, "The Yellow and Blue"?
I did understand your sentiment, but statements like
In order to transfer, Tate would have to get Rodriguez to sign off on it. He's in a contract with Michigan until his eligibility is up, unless Michigan lets him out. Otherwise, he can't go anywhere and play football.
certainly make it sound like you were stating that RR would not let Tate go. I think we all know RR will let players make up their own minds. And the bigger point is that we also know that RR only wants players here who want to be here. If Tate does not want to be here, RR is not going to keep him here because he thinks he knows what is best for Tate.
As for the "Yellow and Blue" line, I am admittedly burned on that one. I forgot that they changed yellow to maize.
Tate was at practice today.

What's that, like, a cow's opinion? It doesn't matter.
Just an ardent alum.
Hope he stays! D-rob took so many hits against UConn it is hard to believe he won't get banged up and miss sometime this year. Gardner is a true frosh, if it gets in and plays like it we will need Tate badly.
I hope to heck Tate stays because Michigan needs him. But the kid only has one life to live, and could be starting at 95% of this country's programs. I know it would be disruptive; and we've all seen that his Dad is a decent, thoughtful guy. But a lot of kids just really, really want TO PLAY. I find it hard to blame them, even as much as I love Michigan. If he goes wish him well.
especially if, as most people seem to think, he won't make it to the NFL. I don't know one way or the other if that's right, but it would be really hard to be a back up if you suspect you only have 4 years left of football and that you can definitely start somewhere else.
Staying is a gamble. Can he get better than the #1 & #2 guys right now? Probably, but he won't be faster than them and that seems to be one of the biggest contributors to success in the spread game. So it would seem he is likely going to be the #3 guy as DRob and Gardner continue to improve the other aspects of their games where Tate, theoretically, had the advantage.
He has some tough choices ahead and I feel for the guy.
Consider our "neighbors" up in East Lansing. Keith Nichol went down to OU, didn't start, transferred to MSU and ... didn't start. No matter where he goes, there is always the chance that there is someone better than he. Doesn't matter if it's football or anything else. That's just life.
Tate is much better than Nichol. IMO he could start at any one of a dozen schools.
But the face I saw on Saturday was a despondent one that wanted to be anywhere else but Michigan stadium.
UM has a great game, a new QB breaks out, and here is tate stealing the thunder by isolating himself and veiling himself with a towel.
hmmmmm....RR is prolly hopin tate just goes away and at this point so am I. Ron English sure could use him. Thanks for last year tate, you were certainly a gamer, but take your Babie dolls and leave if you can't get your attitude right.
is that if Tate transfers he's not letting down the fans or the coaching staff or anything of the like, or as significantly, as it lets down every single lineman and position player that Forcier is charged to lead who is not on the starting roster. for someone who constantly encourages the players charged with his safety to try harder, to balk after one game would be a large disappointment. up to this point his brothers have transferred at season's end when the program was heading in a different direction. there would likely be no animosity if he left after the bowl game (!!!!!!) but now would be a huge disappointment on a ton of levels.
Let him calm down and let him know he is wanted and needed and I bet he'll stay. We will need this guy.
One way or another, I wish they - the university, the coaching staff - would put this one to bed. If he's going to transfer, just do it. And if he's not, he should announce that he is unequivocally here for the rest of the season. This on again/off again stuff has to be a distraction for the team. I know it's a distraction for me and dammit, I'm sick of it.
in case anyone didn't know this (i didn't), the qb rotation was known as of 10:30 am Saturday morning. his not going in was a likely reality from the start of the game and only surprising to the fans when gardner went in. imo this lends credibility to the media prod reaction.

So is there any update? Or is this still up the air?
I have no inside info here, but my guess is that cooler heads will prevail, at least to the point that Tate will wait until the end of the season to figure things end.
I definitely don't want Forcier to transfer, and I'm not even going to speculate on it in any way...but I do have a question. If Forcier were to transfer today, would he still have this (sophomore) year of eligibility left? He didn't play a down Saturday, so how would the NCAA view this in terms of eligibility? Hope someone can answer this for me, thanks.
sorry if this question has already been answered...I just couldn't stomach reading 156 posts about this.. trying to just let it play itself out and not get absorbed in the speculation and fearmongering. Thanks!
... Have to sit a year, but they would just redshirt him.
If he were to transfer today, then this year would probably be counted as his redshirt and he'd have three years of eligibility. If he were to wait a few weeks, he'd use up a year and then he'd have to sit out 2011 and have two years of eligibility left. So there is an advantage to transferring now in that regard, but the obvious downside is that it'd have to be a rushed decision - and that some coaches might not want to accept a transfer without knowing all the facts of his departure. Personally, I think that one extra year isn't worth it. He should stick it out this season, see what happens, and then make an informed decision at the end of the season. He could well end up starting for us - you never know.
thanks for the clarification...one more question: If he waits a few weeks and loses this year of eligibility, is that based on him playing over the next few weeks, or is it based on some type of time constraint in which to make that decision?
The time constraint. You have a five-year window to play your four years, so Forcier's ends in 2013. When you transfer, you have to sit out a season; if he does so right now, that year can be 2010, whereas if he waits until after classes start, he will have been considered enrolled at Michigan for this school year, so he'd have to sit out the 2011 season.
ah, I get it... thanks again.
Tate needs to check himself. If he thinks that he can not show up during off season workouts and then expect to be handed the starting job he's crazy. A Forcier has transferred from Michigan before so It wouldn't surprise me either way. I hope he stays but if he's going to continue to whine and pout about the situation then it's probably best that he does transfer to avoid being a cancer within the locker room. RR won't let this be a distraction.
Tate is a good qb, but in our system, he's just not fast enough to make the offense dominant. In a way, it would be kind of cool to see him transfer because in watching how much hype they were giving that boise state quarterback during their win over virginia tech,I really didn't think that guy looked that much better than Tate So think, Tate could probably easily compete for a starting job and have much more success at other schools in the top 25. It just happen that we have Garnder and Robinson who are both freaks of nature and thus better suited to our system. As far as his attitude, I think it sucks, because who in their right mind could watch Denard against Conn and possibly think that Denard shouldn't be starting...
Why you're getting upvotes...
Oh, yeah, you're not...
