Changing avatars

Submitted by jrt336 on
So the maximum file size is 1 kb and max pixel size is 85x85. However, when I resize pics to 85x85, they're like 5 kb. I need to get them down to 15x15 to make them under 1kb. At 15x15, are the pics clear? Does anyone know what their avatars dimensions are? Also, I've always had trouble changing avatars. The avatar can be deleted, but whenever I try to upload something else, my old one reappears. Has anyone else had this problem?

I had the same issue. My avatar kept changing back and forth for a while before finally stopping on the masterpiece below my name. I had no luck resizing other pics. FWIW, your avatar is really small and the image isn't discernible.

Either a webspace you control, or a free service such as flickr (which I use). Most hosting sites have a feature that lets you simply upload your photo, then copy the code to post anywhere else (like MGoBlog for example). very easy, as long as your images are moderately sized.

This is also kind of OT, but is it possible to edit your username? I just want to delete the spaces in mine so the whole name shows up when I post. I've looked everywhere so I'm guessing its not possible.

Re: Pictures, some of that has to do with clearing your cookies. If you change and it doesn't appear to have changed, you can clear your private data/cookies/otherwise and it should show up. Re: User name, I'm not entirely sure it's possible. As a moderator, I might be able to do that, but I don't want to mess with your account and have it lock you out or otherwise. Also, I don't want people emailing all the time wanting to change stuff.

much like a tattoo. If you are unhappy with what you chose for yourself, tough shit. (BTW this isn't an attack on the OP, just my two cents on changing avatars.)

Does this system have the capability to auto-shrink the pics to fit? Seems like that would be fairly simple - I don't recall downsizing mine but could have - been a while.
