I still like Deshone Kizer, but Stewart would be a nice fallback plan.

In 2014, only Bellomy and Morris will be left on the roster at QB.  True, Morris will be one class above, but depth charts don't get more inviting than that.

It really doesn't matter if schools are offering the top in-state kids early. They know who Michigan is and we're in constant contact with them. As an out of state school, you HAVE to offer early to try to make up some ground, contact, familiarity.

So if Alabama offers Campbell and Wisky offers Stewart...all I can say is "meh."

It's not going to hurt Michigan if they offered either 6 months from now unless those kids were committed.

Just like if we offer a kid from Ohio early and that kid grows up a Buckeye fan. If Ohio offers that kid 6 months after us, they'd still be right there. (I'm talking about freshman and sophomores in HS).

The Wiscosnin QB situation in the past few years has been clouded by injuries.   Their last few recruits (before this year's semi-touted freshman B. Houston) have had horrible injury problems.  Think Purdue bad.   They luckily filled the void with Wilson and O'Brien the past two years.  This really isn't about the Wisconsin coaching staff's confidence in the current QB rotation...it's about filling 3-deep QB rotation with scholarship-caliber players.

Regardless of who Borges offers first the kid would be in a great spot.  Most likely they take a few QB's and redshirt one in 14, then you get some spacing between them and Morris.  If Morris isn't the second coming... then you have someone who has some time in the system to step in.  Of course, Bellomy could really progress and Morris is backup for a season more then you get a nice arrangement of QB's and tenure.  Need at least two qb's this class.

If we recruit 1 QB a year, we'll be fine. 2014 may get a little thin if Gardner isn't here or if he's a fulltime WR. However, adding another freshman QB doesn't help you. I had this discussion with Magnus a month ago regarding this most recent class. Same with '14, adding another QB doesn't help you unless you know he's going to be better than 2 of the 3 in Morris/Bellomy/Stewart. In 2015 you'd get all of them back and you can add a kid like Campbell.

I haven't watched film on Stewart yet but two people I know who saw him camp said he's an average talent who has been getting a bit of hype simply because he's a tall in-state QB who competes at lots of camps. One guy compared him to Tim Hiller, the WMU QB from a few years ago. I took the comparison to mean that he can probaly play the position at the D-1 level, but might not be Michigan QB material and that Michigan should probably flex its recruiting muscle to go after other kids in the class.

Can equal Tom Brady...  Remember, Coach Hoke said he probably would have been a high 2 or low three star coming out of high school.  Whomever we recruit I trust they will do it with dilligence.  A lot of eggs are sitting in Morris' basket right now which he is worthy of but there has to be quality depth.

I don't think that's a helpful analogy though since you're never going to find a kid with the intangible qualities that made Tom Brady successful based on what the kid does in high school or at camps. Recruiting is simply not an exact-enough science to pull something like that off. The possibility that a kid *could* have intangible qualities that *could* make him the next Tom Brady is not a reason to give him the benefit of the doubt that he possesses them. This is the reason the often-used "but _________ was only a 2/3-star and look how he turned out" is really a horseshit argument to use in defense of a questionable recruitment.

“True loyalty is that quality of service that grows under adversity and expands in defeat. Any street urchin can shout applause in victory, but it takes character to stand fast in defeat. One is noise — the other, loyalty.”

knowing 2 guys who have seen him on the camp circuit is a more thorough and risk ameliorating process.

Camps tell you a bit.  Films tell you a bit.  Seeing them play several times during a season tell you a bit.  Just because service "x" analyst says he has a "weaker" arm or is more average doesn't fortify your perspective on him.

Ohh and yes, a kid being a 2 or 3 star who has been  solid and progressing annually and looks to be the type that will really have a much higher ceiling in college is a horseshit methodology.

look, I'm just passing along what I have heard. I don't have a perspective on him. I even prefaced my comment by saying that I haven't even watched the kid's film yet. That should be enough right there for anyone to qualify the info I posted and decide how much weight to give it. So I don't really understand why you have sand all up in your vagina about this.

Saying that someone compared a kid to Tim Hiller is not a knock on him. Hiller was a successful D-1 quarterback. But Michigan is one of the few programs with the ability to reach for the stars, rather than just the moon.

The point about comparing a lowly-rated kid to 2/3 star players who succeed is that probability suggests that this is never going to be a helpful comparison. It's like arguing that you have better shot of winning the lottery than the odds suggest because you heard about a guy who bought a single ticket once in his lifetime and won. I'm not even sure why you made the comparison in the first place since I always figured Stewart would be rated a 4-star based on what has been written about him.

Gotta consider what kind of team he has around him. Not much. Always running for his life and scrambling is not his forte. He has the qb smarts and size. If he played for any of the state championship caliber teams in Michigan his film would be better, his statistics would be better and his skills would be even more polished than they are. How many class B qb's get Big Ten offers as an incoming junior? I honestly don't know that answer, but just throwing it out for consideration.

On sunday I broke 2 bats playing baseball, so over my lunch break I went to the only sports store in Sturgis Michigan (where Chance is from). My dad has always told me that he played sports with the guy that owned the store and that he was a really good athlete in high school. I walk in and see the owner and his son, Chance Stewart. I talked to them a little, but forgot to make my Michigan pitch lol. It was a cool break in my long workday.
