Center (Football) grad transfer possibility
Notre Dame has granted an unconditional release to Michigan for 5th-yr, grad-transfer Center Matt Hegarty. He is 6'4, 295lbs, and started 11 games last year for Notre Dame at Center.
No matter who the starting 5 end up being, adding a player who has started games against the likes of FSU and LSU would be a giant plus, especially given the state of our center depth.
EDIT: Didn't realize how sport-ambiguous I had made my post. FOOTBAUGH.
First of all, even 3 games would represent 25% of the regular season.
Second, those first three games include Utah, Oregon State, and UNLV, not all of which are gimme wins.
Third, Glasgow is at least a two-time offender, so even if he misses "just" three games for this incident, there's a decent chance he will fall off the wagon again.
Fourth, this team was likely going to have Glasgow starting at LG until Jack Miller retired. So bringing in a guy who can start at center might allow Glasgow to play LG, which would allow Erik Magnuson to compete at tackle or right guard.
With the center depth right now (minus Miller and potentially Glasgow), we might be royally screwed even if there are no further injuries. Just think about how Glasgow looked during his first game action at center (bad snaps in three or four consecutive games) or how Rocko Khoury looked during the first series of the Sugar Bowl (two bad snaps on one series).

Has anything been published to indicate that he has any interst in Michigan, or vice versa?
No.
But it right to give Harbaugh credit for Notre Dame releasing him so that a message could be posted here about a potential transfer that thus far is completly unrelated to Michigan.
For anyone wondering, Michigan offered Hegarty as part of the 2011 class. He was from Aztec, NM, so we could feasibly have one New Mexican (Hegarty) snapping to another New Mexican (Zach Gentry), which would be a pretty big coincidence since we rarely recruit the state at all.
Hegarty was a 4-star, the #6 offensive tackle, and #70 overall to Rivals that year.
... indicating that Michigan is a possible landing place.
This seems like a waste of blog space.
...this is a VERY nice pick up. Gives us a some more depth and flexibility on the line.
