CCHA games tonight

Submitted by littlebrownjug on

I guess we have to root for MSU and Ferris tonight!

Anyone have a link to the MSU/Miami game?

That's wonderful. Maybe when they get out of the basement and earn respect back, they'll get their name.

Sorry but when major hockey blogs and the student section refers to them as FYS, I mean, it's pretty official isn't it?

Although it wouldn't surprise me if you have dismay for the term due to you having an issue or just pissed. off the Children of Yost. Seems they're pretty vocal about it on twitter. (This was from awhile back when things weren't going well and someone suggested Red being fired on here, hence the reference).

and surprisingly enough, it's not from that whiny cockswab Bando. I'd rather be a couch in E.Lansing than see Red fired.

For me, it's an extension of the problem that the Yost student section shouldn't have a name or institutional framework that can be used to do stuff like this.

And the fact that the people who run this "Children of Yost" thing consistently show the maturity of twelve-year-olds is an unfortunate side effect.  It's unbecoming to the University.  The fact that the Athletic Department gives it any kind of legitimacy boggles my mind.

My beef is that the Yost student section grew organically over the course of two decades by word of mouth.  You bought tickets your freshman year, went to the first game, spent a few series learning the chants and what to do, and by the next year you were the one doing it.  There wasn't a twitter feed, there weren't meetings, there wasn't a facebook group.  You went to the games, you went out into the cold on Saturday nights, and came back to do it again next weekend, year after year after year.  The magic was the lack of organization.  No name, no hierarchy, no section trying to tell everyone else what to do.  It was based on intelligence, wit, and some salty antics now and then.

The fact the actual people behind this Children of Yost thing are rather immature, and use this blog and other venues like Twitter and Facebook not just to act like children towards their opponents, but also towards their own fanbase, is proof positive why an institutional Yost student section is a bad thing.  You don't need a name or a Facebook group to make an awesome flag.

Long story short, Yost was always awesome because there wasn't a face or a name on it.  You couldn't point at any one person or group.  It just -happened-, year after year after year.  The magic was in the unspoken sustainability.

"Gaffe" implies somebody made a mistake.  It was not--this is OSU athletic policy.  Value City Arena hosts, on consecutive weekends in March, the Ohio High School wrestling, girls basketball and boys basketball championships.  Value City Arena is not available on any of those weekends, and so Ohio State has never played a CCHA playoff game in their own arena.

Ohio State cares more about their rifle and fencing teams than they care about their hockey team.

I'd be shocked if FYS came back down 2-0. Since we're the lowest seed still playing, we'd play Miami.

Bring it on. Beat Miami (Ohio)

I have a treat for tomorrow morning - full game of when Michigan last played Miami in the CCHA's at the Joe, on Youtube.

We call them FYS because of this and the resulting sentiments from the student section

Everytime I see that. I'm disappointed that a) our team appears to not fully see what happened and susbequently b) that there was not a bench clearing brawl where Tropp and Conboy where knocked the f out
