CC - Why the delay by Dave Brandon?

Submitted by Knappster on

For those that DO want to discuss the biggest topic at hand, consider this...

Dave Brandon has stated many times that he will wait until after the bowl to make any decision.  This could be 100% wrong but here's my theory behind it...

-RR and the players have "earned" the bowl and deserve to play in it no matter what.  Good move

-Harbaugh (yes) and his players have earned their bowl and deserve to coach/play in it.  Good move

-RR will be fired or resign as coach of UM after the bowl, and Harbaugh will be named coach after his bowl game.

If you think about it, it's the best way to go about the process without ruffling too many feathers.  Stanford won't be pissed about UM "stealing" Harbaugh before their huge, potential BCS bowl.  RR gets to cap off the season with his players, as he has earned it.  It will appear that DB went through a full evaluation process, which I am sure he has done anyway by now.  And as we know, the buyout is lower.

Sure recruiting might suffer, but with the dead period beginning on Dec 20, it's not as bad as some may think.  And IF Harbaugh is the guy, he will likely bring some recruits.  Going through his current commits, some are from NJ, NY, IN, PA, GA, LA.  Like him or not, we know that he is a great recruiter.  Not to mention, this is obviously a long term move and not just about one season or recruiting class.

I just keep thinking that if DB really wanted to keep RR, he would say it now publicly for many reasons.

Again, for those that DO want to discuss, what are your thoughts?  I think it's already a done deal. Please no facepalms, atomic bombs, etc.  Boobs are okay.  We are ALL Michigan fans and support the team no matter what.

Let's be honest: this is the topic involving Michigan football right now.  I get that it makes some of the diehard RR believers uncomfortable, but you have to accept that people are going to want to discuss the coaching situation.  Don't be a baby about it.  If you have other topics to discuss, by all means post them.  If the front page is filled with CC stuff, that means that no other topic seems to be worthy of discussion.

Try six hundredth!  Its really become f-ing ridiculous.  Seriously.  The fact of the matter are that (i) everyone has a damn opinion on the topic (including me); (ii) the opinions are in no way supported by any substantiated facts; (iii) the majority (?) of the MGoCommunity really does not care about these personal opinions.  I, for one, do not kid myself and assume that people really care what my opinion on this subject is at this point.

If people must, why not start one Diary thread and then everyone who feels the need to weigh in and/or volunteer their opinion can do so in one location?

Has there been a final determination on whether the use of "CC" remedies what would otherwise be a violation?  Or is it only one factor to consider?

I think Tarheel's comment above should be considered.

Just curious, not a judgment of the thread.

EDIT: question answered below.

You deserve every face palm and atomic bomb you get. It's not just that some of us don't want to discuss, it's that the people who do, have had 476 threads to do so. Why make another one?

I seriously want to know WHY MUST WE HAVE ANOTHER THREAD ON SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN COVERED 500 TIMES.

Other things we don't need threads about:

-Jerome Bettis being from Detroit

-Brett Favre being a gunslinger

-Tim Tebow being Christian

I honestly don't understand all the snide comments.  Maybe he wanted to discuss this situation and give his thoughts.  Yes, there have been threads about it in the past.  That doesn't mean people don't have new thoughts about the issue and/or want to discuss it.  And don't tell me that you want him to go post in a thread that is 4 days old.

Also, he marked the thread "CC", which was invented today I know, but why would you actively click on it, and then post this in there?  This isn't only directed at you, but all the comments trivalizing and degrading the OP for posting his thoughts.  Seriously, don't read it or comment in it if it bothers you sooooo much.

Because we have to set some sort of standard. We do not need a thread by every MGOmember regarding their opinion on the matter. We should have one thread about the entire process. But no, there's like 200 special ed students on here and they all start their own thread and any real news gets shuffled away.

Mitch Cumstein

So you think the standard we should set is having every poster post videos of bombs and pictures of half naked women when there is a topic of interest that has been discussed before?  How about we set the standard of just ignoring the thread if you don't like it?

Also, maybe you really think these posters are "special ed students", which I highly doubt, but fine.  But please don't try to insult someone by calling them that or calling them the R-word.  Its really not cool, and shows your lack of maturity and sensitivity.

This thread has been covered many times.  But, it comes from passion.  This is not a malicious post by a  so called "special ed student".  When it comes to the University and the football program specifically, I hope we all have the same passion.  This black hole of not knowing is not good for an apprehensive fan base.  Brandon's silence has only amplified it by 1000 times.  I for one will live with either scenario.  I like most fans and supporters just want this empty feeling to end,  Go Blue!

if RR tears it up in the bowl game and dominates the opposition you think DB would fire him. I believe DB and think he will evaluate the staff at seasons end. Im not saying RR job is 100%  safe i just think DB is going to due a fair and through evaluation of all coaches.

What if Michigan destroys the opposing bowl team and Stanford loses their bowl game by 28 pts? What if they both get blown out? I guess DB just hasn't decided yet. But I have to think that he's definitely not pleased and some major changes need to be made on the defensive side of the ball.

Not only have there been literally 5+ threads about this exact topic over the past 2 days, but you also missed the possibility that DB is waiting for the results of the WVU NCAA investigation.

Also, what if he doesn't want to be a buzz-kill right before the holidays?

What if he wants to wait on RR's fate til he makes his New Year's resolution?

These threads are getting ridiculous.

What I don't get is that if you people don't want to discuss it why read it? Just move along. I don't read them all and don't bitch when a new one arises. But also when people that hate the 500 threads started on the same topic why do they have to all write the same comments on omg we already have this topic. No shit that's already been said.

Again move along if it doesn't interest you

Just because you didn't find it intersting doesn't mean everyone I in your boat. It's a sports blog and I found it interesting. Great posts in the comments area get lost and overlook all the time. A new post about the same topic just ensures people who want to read it will. If you don't want to that's fine just go to the next post. Don't clog up his post by posting Things like that.

profitgoblue

The opposite is also true. By constantly posting the same tired arguments time after time after time, this blog becomes clogged and loses value. The only person starting a new thread about the same thing posted in another thread is the same person who thinks their opinion is so important it needs to be front and center. News flash: I don't care about an unsubstantiated opinion. This blog is superior because of it's reliability. I want facts, not opinion. And if people persist on starting new threads seeped in their own unsupported personal opinion I will continue to respond with worthless drivel and pos bang all those that do the same. Call it an MGoUprising, if you will.

(which is usually a bad idea) and because of the wait I feel like either Brandon truly hasn't decided yet (he wants to see the bowl game or get more info), or he has decided to fire RR.  I just can't possibly see why he would want to wait if he knows he will retain RR.  Anyone have anything that can shine some light on this?

We were getting married in ten minutes.  My brothers and I were to stand at the altar and wait for my soon-to-be wife to come waltzing down the isle.

On our way from the waiting area to the altar, my youngest brother turns and says to me,

"Fuck it, let's just go.  Just get in the car and drive."

He had the most serious look on his face.  I love him for that look.  I considered it.  Honestly.  But, alas, his look soon turned to a wry smile and I knew he wasn't serious.

So we continued on to the altar, where I met my bride, and we got hitched.

Now... I live in hell, and she and I talk about the same goddamned thing every day.

I dunno why I just thought about that.  Huh.

So, hiring Harbaugh is a long term plan, but hiring RR was what? A temporary bridge to Harbaugh? RR was hired as a long term plan but people are unwilling to even give him the duration of his contract. Seems quite hypocritical to me.

In my oh so insignificant opinion, hiring Harbaugh is a poor long term plan. He will coach in the NFL at some point. Who is a better long term canidate? I have no clue. Honestly if we fire RR and Harbaugh doesn't take the job (I think people are taking it for granted he would be offered and take it) then I don't know where you turn. Who else would be looking to jump ship? Maybe Chris Petersen? I guess he would be my second choice. I just don't see the hot prospects in average jobs that I saw the last time around. I mean you had Brian Kelly, RR, Greg Schiano, and even Harbaugh at that point(hindsight). Do you go after a Mike Gundy? I doubt he would take it. He has all the money in the world down there right now. I just don't see solid alternatives. If there is a firing, DB has to have harbaugh locked the fuck up.

Good call on using the "CC" designator, but facepalms and atomic bombs are coming

I agree, to an extent, that DB should announce it sooner if he intends to keep RR, but at least he's consistent.

I have to assume DB knows what he's doing, and this timetable is a result of a long thought out process.  I believe he's addressed the concern over recruiting and such.

I just feel bad for RR regarding recruiting.

Reading that update from Tim about visitors this weekend, all I could think about was "What the hell is Rich supposed to tell these guys?" That he MIGHT be there?

Good to get them on campus and show them what Michigan has no matter the coach, but I just don't know how Rich does his job there. I agree with the OP about that making sense. If we don't have Harbaugh locked up right now with a backchannel agreement, what's going on right now makes very little sense. It's JH or bust at this point.

the decision has been made and it was made back a couple weeks ago... I remember when dallas crawford and sammy watkins was on a visit and david brandon told them that coach rod will be the coach at michigan for a long time... i think watkins or crawford mention this to tom when he does his follow up on recruits visits.  Im not sure how safe greg is but coach rod will still be the coach next year.  This team is about to take off it just needs some changes on defense and this team is a top ten team.
