CC: Stoops might actually be plausible?

Submitted by OccaM on

I'm listening to the Herd on ESPN Radio and Colin Cowherd is suggesting that a current coach who is NOT being circulated on blogs is being eyed for the gig. He also says Michigan fans will like it a lot. The name he said would come out this weekend. I figure if a national person is suggesting it, it must have some validity.

Could this be Stoops?

but I only want a committed Harbaugh here.  A committed Bob Stoops is probably better than a flakey Harbaugh who wishes he was still in the NFL.

I like Richt a lot, actually. I think the reason he deals with player discipline issues so often is because he doesn't sweep stuff under the rug; Atlanta and Athens are not places that are as subservient to football as, say, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa, so that stuff gets out, and he deals with it. And I think he's a good coach and a good man. But I don't think he will work at Michigan culturally. He's an evangelical Christian, which will predispose a lot of Michigan's fanbase to be distrustful of him, and his style is very Southern. I don't think he'll play well up here and I don't know that he would acclimate to the "style" of Michigan himself.

Some enormous east-west coast scandal (something to do with mutant cheesesteaks/Starbucks and Russel Wilson has decided to head back to NC State to try baseball)is about to blow-up in Seattle iand Philly in two weeks, and Pete and Chip are know when to get the hell out of town.

I find it ironic, that there were previous reports that Tressel was to accept a job on saturday (Nebraska). Could it possibly just have been a mistake that it was actually Tressel for Michigan? I would hope not and hope this is not the case, but very interesting this came about.

I was not saying I want this nor would it be good for Michigan. It doesn not fit what we are looking for. My idea was that where did all this Tressel information come from and why were there reports that is possible he accepts a job "at Nebraska" over the weekend. This obiviously was not the case with Riley being hired. Could there be more behind it with Cowherds statement and this false report from individuals talking about Tressel. Hope this is not the case.

I've heard rumors about Bud Kilmer as a possibility.  Some are hung up on the fact of a clash he had with a backup QB about the direction of the offense.  Kilmer preferred to be a traditional "running team."  Whereas, the QB wanted to run more of a pass-heavy spread system.

There's also some alleged doping/substance abuse problems with the program he ran, too.  So I don't think Kilmer should be our guy, IMO.

Stoops's name seems to come up every year at least once for a big name job.  I think that ND made a run for him before they hired Kelly.  It just seems to be one of those constants that people think that Okie fans are spoiled and Stoops is probably available, but then they find out he isn't.

I think that our chances of getting him are zero%.

some interest or curiosity at being at Michigan before?

Personally, I think that Stoops would be a great hire and he has beaten Saban recently and, with him being at Oklahoma, we won't have to worry about things like Stoops not understanding a big time rivalry...actually, I would prefer Stoops to Miles

in history of "journalism", and we're breaking the Internet (well, MGoBlog anyway) with it!

Hey, Cowherd, Joe McCarthy called, he wants his schtick back!
