CC? - Some thoughts from a long time UM fan

Submitted by bighouseinmate on

Let me start out by stating that I love Michigan. I don't just love being a fan when things are going great, or even good. I love UM through thick and thin.

This, at least for the football team, seems to be one of those thin times. I also love RR as the HC. Not for the winning(hasn't really happened like it some of us wanted it to), but for the fact that he is a very good man put in a tough situation. He has done his best to transform UM football into a better, quality version of his WVU teams and bring an exciting brand of football to UM and the B10. Against not only a hostile press, but also against a portion of the fanbase itself, he has failed in three years to put UM back to national prominence. Should he get a fourth year? That is not for me, nor anyone else, to answer, although after the bowl game results, it seems nearly certain that he won't.

I want to thank RR for his three years he has put in here, from the comedy of errors that was 2008 to the excitement of Denard and 2010. I know it hasn't been easy dealing with idiot commentary from the media and the constant background noise of the anti-RR crowd. Thank you, RR, for your efforts.

That's exactly what people were saying in the defense of CC posts but we saw how all of the RR fans would overtake those posts and turn them into something else completely.

......for the +1, but I didn't post this for any reason other than as an open thank you to RR for the past three years of effort. Some posters here have been and continue to be jacka**** in their comments about RR and the man doesn't deserve that kind of treatment. He hasn't deserved the treatment from that certain portion of the fanbase over the past three years but has taken it well considering the meanness some have displayed.

Forgetting all else that has happened, he was(and still continues to be) UM's head coach of football and should have received full support from the get-go. The anti-RR crowd since the bowl game has become even more uncivil in their commentary towards RR. I just hope they give the next coach more support than they have given RR.

I am you.  All those criticizing the OP should realize that many of us are long-time Michigan family members...and it isn't easy when a family member is critically ill.

Many of the snarky comments are from the jack-ass boyfriend of the granddaughter, the little shit that has been around only long enough to know great auntie Bess as the irrational smoker out back who cackles at birds.  He doesn't see/understand/recognize/respect that she has represents the backbone of this family for 110 plus years.

No, RR isn't Bessie.  Michigan football is.  Those of you dogging on those of us feeling genuine emotion about the state of things have to realize how far and deep relationships can go...not with coaches, but with programs.

And yes... now you can get off of my damn porch.

I'll +1 for you.  I have your back.  Like the OP has Rich's!

RR, you will forever have my support as you have given your all for our program.  Thanks for your efforts and I'll support you if you stay and root for you if you go.  Be well, stay healthy, and thanks again for an emotional and lively year!

You've done some great things with a really young team.  Let's not forget that!  More importantly, the guys love you and they are growing as young men in substance more important than the game.  In life!

You see RR.  We as fans sometimes lose sight of what is really essential.  The most significant factor is the young men growing as individuals, getting an exceptional education, and bringing their competitive spirit into society.

Please excuse our intolerance and frustrations.  Thanks again and be well!

Just a little piggy back vent to the open message started by OP.

Like I said, I completely agree and feel the same way about a lot of people never accepting him and making his three years here fairly miserable.  He's handled everything pretty well given the amount of shit he had to put up with.

I didn't see it ending well for the same reason other threads similar to yours haven't ended well.  People get all uppity about clogging the board, someone makes a dumb comment along the way, and off they go on destructive tangents.  Nothing personal.

Not trying to be a jackass, but In all seriousness, has there been a "post your positive messages to RR here" type thread yet?  I can't imagine that one actually maintaining positivity but it may be worth a shot.  If anything it'd be an interesting collection of (hopefully) rational, positive thoughts from RR supporters.

I'm not going to argue that RR should stay anymore, but he seems like a decent guy who put everything he had into the job.  I'll be fan of his for the rest of his career.

....if you don't believe the man is a good coach too. His success at WVU has shown that he is. If anything, it just wasn't the fit that it should have been and the fans as a whole shoulder some of the blame. When a coach enjoys overwhelming support from the fanbase they have one less worry and more time to spend on the molding of young men and women into good/great players as well as people.

One thing that would suck for Rodriguez though:

There's a decent chance that if Harbaugh comes in, he might be able to reform a lot of things and make this a great team again with all the young talent he has. Assuming Devin Gardner stays, he'll become a great QB. There's a lot of young defensive players that will develop. Stephen Hopkins would make a terrific pro-style running back. And Harbaugh will get all the praise for making UoM great again, even if he has the talent that Rodriguez recruited. Where as Rodriguez gets the empty cabinet that Lloyd left him and he's labeled as the one who ruined Michigan football.

jeez.  I make one spelling mistake and I get all negged and jumped on.  I corrected my post and I will appologize if I offended anyone.

I am not a RR supporter.  I am not DB and I did not play FB for M so I dont think I have the right to tell DB what to do.  He is the AD, and along with MSC, they will make the best decision for the team and the school whatever that is.

You're a liar, an idiot, or both.  Why would you put Oregon, who was ranked #2 that season until their QB went down, in the same category as App State?  If you are telling the truth that you "meant" to type Oregon and not Toledo, then you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

It's not surprising that somebody who gets basic, easily obtainable facts so completely wrong goes on to write ludicrous jackassery like Lloyd Carr "abandoned the team."

It's called "retirement"—something that millions of Americans do every year. You will too, some day.

Can you find the other mistake you made?

He  blames Carr for the loss to Toledo and  then accuses him "abandoning the team". Carr coached at UM for 30 years and led Michigan to their only NT in the past 60 years. Yet, this guy excoriates Carr while lauding a man who has led UM to two of their worst seasons in program history. WTF?

RichRod does not deserve the personal attacks that many have directed at hime, but Lloyd Carr definitely does not deserve the slanderous treatment that Thonati has subjected him to.

Why can't people defend RR without attacking other Michigan Men?
