CC: Scott Frost
He hasn't been at the helm of the Ducks playcalling long but in his first season he set the team record for points scored and the previous high was done in a 14 game season. He knows both sides of the ball and has actually now coached as both a DC and OC. He seems to have the presence of a HC and is becoming a hot name around the country. When it looked as though Pelini was on his way out, most Nebraska fans were all on board for their former QB. So it would be cool to steal him away while we have the chance.

He has to publicaly apologize to us and give back the other half of the 1997 NC first.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:28 PM ^
I can't fault him. His job was to win games. It was the voters (looking at you Fullmer) who screwed UM.

He lobbied hard against us in the media and called us out as not worthy of the NC. He was not just a bystander.
Of course, if he came here and won us a National Championship, that would make up for a few things.

He was kind of a dick about it. Something like "if you guys want to give it to them just cuz they haven't won it in so long..."

Yes he was a kid. It still pisses me off. They get away with a kicked ball touchdown and he sits on sportcenter and mocks our team. I dont want him.

if he convinced those people. Imagine the kind of recruiter he could be!

Did Frost (1) advocate that Nebraska get a split (co-National Champions)?, or (2) advocate that Nebraska get the National Championship alone? Is there a tape or article with his exact quotes?
If it's (1), i don't understand the U-M animosity for Frost .... if it is (2), I do understand.
Co-national champions are not ideal, but there are other schools in history who didn't even get that recognizition.

The coaches poll (which is what we won I think) already had their minds made up. So he conceded that. But he went to the media and challenged them after what they saw (dismantling Peyton Manning and Tennessee) that how could they NOT vote Nebraska #1. . .
October 2nd, 2014 at 6:05 PM ^
we won the AP poll, they won the coach.
October 2nd, 2014 at 6:50 PM ^
We won the AP by a mile while NU won the Coaches' poll by two votes.

The one thing I don't understand about the Nebraska/Missouri game is how that touchdown was even possible since kicking a ball like that is illegal by NCAA rules.

Sorry MichiganSports that I was too lazy to do one of these as I know we were both on this bandwagon the other day. He's definitely lower on the list but I wouldn't be mad about hiring him. He'll be a head coach at a power 5 soon enough, only hindsight will tell how good he will be.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:24 PM ^
He's only been the offensive coordinator for Oregon since last year. Why is everyone so quick to think he's head coaching material?
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:26 PM ^
I would consider because they figured out and smoked MSU.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:49 PM ^
Yes because hiring a guy specifically for winning one game always works.
John Cooper says hi.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:57 PM ^
I'd bet 26 internet dollars that if we found a way to beat MSU, that we could beat a lot of teams.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:42 PM ^
I'd think you'd bet somewhere North of $6209...weak, man. Totally weak.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:35 PM ^
...says "Hello back, young feller."
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:41 PM ^
They didn't hire Tressel for winning one game. They hired Cooper specifically because he beat Michigan in the 1987 Rose Bowl.
Nevermind Arizona State's only loss that year was to their archrival Arizona in the last week of the season. They should have seen it coming.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:05 PM ^
Nope, but they did forgive his transgressions for winning one particular game. One of my best friends is an OSU fan and all he cared about is that Tressel beat Michigan.

I'm sure their success is not attributable to him too much, but that's not the question. It's whether he has learned enough coaching under Chip Kelly (for 4 years) and now Helfrich (2 additional years) to duplicate that success here. Helfrich and Kelly might be the big reasons Oregon has been successful, but Frost might have been in their brains enough to bring that same system to another school with comparable success.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:24 PM ^
If people think that Hoke was underqualified to be Michigan's head coach, I have no idea how they could justify Frost. The guy has been an offensive coordinator for a little over one year, and it's not like he turned around a previously struggling offense. He would be an incredibly risky hire with an incredibly thin resume.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:22 PM ^
How can you compare the two, there was nothing exciting about Hoke at all in his resume. Frost calls plays for the most exciting offense in college football.
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:46 PM ^
So why didn't we hire they guy who called plays for the most exciting offense in college football in 2007 or 2011?
That would be Chip Kelly and Mark Helfrich
October 2nd, 2014 at 4:50 PM ^
Because Dave Brandon lives with his head up his ass and everyone was obsessed with getting the Michigan Man. I'm hoping we have all grown up and moved past that now as it has caused the current shit storm we are dealing with.
October 2nd, 2014 at 5:59 PM ^
We got his boss, too. Given the state of our defense, literally no one was advocating for such a move in 2011.
October 2nd, 2014 at 7:04 PM ^
I'm not sure people said Hoke was underqualified, and if they did it was unreasonable. Hoke had been a head coach for 7 or 8 years after spending a similar amount of time as an assistant for us. That's not underqualified.

October 2nd, 2014 at 5:50 PM ^
Frost advocating for the National Championship for the team he played for does not disqualify him from being Michigan's coach.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:25 PM ^
I think anyone affiliated with Oregon's offense should be given a serious consideration. It may not be a far fetched idea that Frost and/or Helfrich would be contacted given how they made adjustments and ran away from MSU.

MARCUS MARIOTA FOR HEAD COACH
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:28 PM ^
I mean I would take him over a tired re-tread of a coach. He's not an ideal candidate and doesn't have a meaty resume at this point nor much experience. But if you can't convince anyone actually qualified (which won't happen if Brandon is still around), then at least a guy like that has really high upside. However, if he were to be very successful, you can bet your ass Nebraska would come knocking and I'm guessing he would leave UM. Which I would prefer not happen.
October 2nd, 2014 at 3:29 PM ^
Frost? It seems like we could get Helfrich. Why get the OC when you can get the HC?

I was watching Shark Tank with my son last night, and Herjavec offered the entrepreneurs exactly what they were asking for. My son asked why they weren't taking the offer. I explained that Mark Cuban hadn't said anything yet. Herjavec is worth ~$100M. Cuban is worth $2.6B. That's why you wait for Cuban to make an offer or proclaim, "I'm out."
