CC: Rumors and Harbaugh open thread

Submitted by michgoblue on
[ed-S: Jeff Ross isn't even making the announcement today anymore. I won't fight the rumor threads but nothing seems to have changed from Brian's post yesterday. So I have changed the title here. Go ahead and have your thread; nothing I've got has changed my belief that the ball is still in Jim's court.]

I expect that if there is anything of significance that comes us, there will be new threads created. For now, for those of us up early scouring MgoBlog for anything of interest on the Harbaugh, Miles, cc front, let's use this as the general discussion thread.

By the way, thanks, Internet, for making me exhausted today! The Twitter / board frenzy around 11 last night cost me a good hour and a half of sleep. Harbaugh needs to announce that he is coming home pronto!

I hate Cowherd.  But, in this case, I kind of agree.  Obviously, if Hackett and company believe that harbaugh is significantly better than other candidates, you wait a while for him.  Waiting does risk the recruiting class, risks that other good options come off the board (Herman?), and also risks that the new HC will be limited in pulling his staff together as other possibile assistants find new homes.  Again, if you end up with Harbaugh by 1/5, it is probably ok.

But, at some point the risk is not justified.  Unless Hackett has been told by Harbaugh that itshappening.gif, with the 49ers now out of the playoffs, it is not unreasonable for Hackett to take a view that if he cannot get this thing wrapped up by Christmas, and if there is a Mora-like option out there, you pull the trigger on that option.

Harbaugh is a great coach,, but he is not the only great coach out there.

I completely agree with you. Even though Cowherd can be an idiot and most of the time just takes stances to move ratings, he isn't far off on these comments. With that said, I don't think Hackett or Harbaugh would let it get to the point where the class is "unsavable".

Even if Harbaugh does not take the job, I can't imagine he would string Michigan along and set them back even further. There is no debate that Harbaugh still has love for Michigan so he won't want to put Michigan in a hard spot. I can't image that Harbaugh wouldn't have provide a yes or no by Christmas.

Michigan's recruiting class was small to begin with...it became embarassingly small by the time Hoke got fired.

Obviously waiting to get Harbaugh is a risk, but it's not a risk M would be willing to take unless it had some confidence that they had a chance to actually lure Harbaugh home .And you don't go out of your way to hire some coach who isn't your top choice just because you don't want to wait too long. The last thing Michigan needs to be here is impatient. zYes, it will sacrifice a recruiting class. But, as Brian has said, if ever there was a year to sacrifice a recruiting class for the sake of hiring the right coach, this would be it.

I would take our current commits and no others in exchange for Harbaugh. If the last 3 years have shown us anything it's that good coaching is more important than good recruits. There may be other coaches out there as good as Harbaugh (debatable as far as the available ones go), but definitely none as good for THIS program. Anyone else will disappoint a lot of the fan base. Harbaugh will bring optimism even more than Hoke did, and with optimism come recruits.

Ps is anyone else having problems the last few days with the mobile app jumping to pop ups without even seeing any adverts?

I completely disagree. Name another "great" coach out there. Les Miles? Bob Stoops? Gary Patterson? None of those is happening. So who's left that is in the same conversation as Harbaugh? None of the hires made so far this offseason has been a great hire. Harbaugh is the only elite option out there, and settling for less is accepting being a second-rate program

He sounds like an idiot. An elite HC is worth far more than one recruiting class, especially a small one. Besides, if Harbaugh is hired late December, there is plenty of time to steal some good recruits before signing day. A Harbaugh hire would grab attention the way Meyer's did at OSU.

We have a ruined recruiting class already, the guys who are left are solid and will remain, it isn't that bad as at least this was going to be a small class anyway... also, Mora is coaching a game further in the future than Harbaugh's last game that will be played on the 28th of this month, so even in Hackett wanted Mora, It would take one more week in comparision to Harbaugh to make it happen, unless Mora doesn't give a crap and is willing to just leave UCLA asap.

Full range of human emotions this morning.

Trying to distinquish which rumor is from that rumor of the other rumor of the sources rumor of the other sources rumor but not my sources rumor, it is just a rumor?

The Best Rumor: Harbaugh to Michigan is a done deal!

Should be the last concern in regards to who and when we hire them. Brady Hoke came in after New Year and was able to retain the majority of a spread class that knew they weren't going to be playing in a scheme anywhere close to what they thought. He was also able to flip 2-3 very good recruits on signing day if I'm not mistaken.

That's a guy that isn't instantly recognizable to 17-19 year old kids around the country, didn't turn Stanford into a NC contender, didn't bring the world Andrew Luck, take a struggling 49ers franchise over the past 10-15 years to 3 straight NFC title games, or come within a handful of plays of beating his brother in the most highly viewed football game of the year.

Will this be a top 10 class littered with top 250 guys? Probably not. But I trust things will be just fine with whatever Jim "scrounges" up. If Dantonio can turn a roster littered with 3* recruits into a conference champion, Rose Bowl winning outfit (against a team still vibrating off of Jim's impact), then I think we'll survive 1, not so highly touted class. Plus the upperclassmen we have are relatively young top to bottom, so any big misses this year can just be made priorities the next.

After over a half decade of getting our teeth kicked in by Dantonio and his middling recruiting classes, I can't believe anyone is even bringing up recruiting considering the advantage getting the right coach gives a program.

If it came down to it, I'd wait until after signing day to sign this candidate and bank the scholarships. Gladly.

Luckily that will not happen and the new coach will get some very good players in whatever time he has.

The right head coach is everything in college football. We should all know that by now.

This is maddening that we got trolled like this.

And don't tell me this isn't potentially harmful to our chances with Harbaugh, if there was in fact an offer and those numbers got leaked and Oakland or any other NFL team got wind of it you know they are on the phone this morning with SF asking for permission to make an offer to Harbaugh, I know we have a lot of money to spend, but you don't want to get into a bidding war with 3 or more NFL franchises, it's not a winning proposition unless you're Harbaugh's agent, he might get a massive deal now, something historic for NFL coaches.

I watched Jim's Presser yesterday, he was asked if he has met with brass or if anything is scheduled and he said No, but obviously available.

Last night on Baalkes radio show he stated that he met with Jim in the morning and his future with the niners won't be determined until after the final game.

Opinion: The two saying different things in regards to meeting led to the rampant rumors.

All is good, Harbaugh to Michigan! Willing to wait as long as it takes, or until January 15th, or?

this coaching search ends soon. Not to save the recruiting class, but to save a large portion of this fan base from themselves. Some of you are becoming quite an embarrassment. Even worse so than the product on the field. Calm the fuc* down. We will know something is happening when we hear from a credible source. Stop salivating over trolling.

Harbaugh will be fired, traded, or resign from SF.

I don't see him taking a year off at this point in his career so he will come to Michigan, interview for open nfl jobs, or become hc of the team he is traded to.

There is no magical twitter potion that is going to expedite this process to where you wake up and Harbaugh is already in Ann

Arbor drawing up X's and O's and brewing up his batch of snake oil.

The job is clearly his to take or leave. Yes, Hackett is waiting around for him. I'm sure this is because he knows that Harbaugh is interested. Save the 49ers being embarrassed on Sunday, we probably hear nothing until the new year.

Hmmm. Bo Pelini hired at YSU. Of course that was reported a week ago that it would happen, and openly mocked here.
