CC: Not to get any hopes up but...

Submitted by Blue Carcajou on
Apparently, Jack Harbaugh stated on Channel 4 (a Detroit news station) that if offered the Michigan head coaching job, Jim would "absolutely take it." It seems to have made the rounds on Twitter and is in discussion at the 24/7 board. I'd embed the tweets but I don't know how; thought it was a little too good not to share. One can only hope... Oh, and Go Blue and beat Indiana.

on the 6:00 news last night say that his sources have told him that Jack said it. The combination of Bernie saying this on live TV and other people tweeting about sources saying it is probably what made the rumor change to Jack actually saying it himself on WDIV. I seriously doubt that, we would have seen video. But I definitely saw Bernie mention in passing last night that per his sources, Jack Harbaugh said that Jim would take the job if offered.

His son is under contract to the 49ers and he isn’t going to put Jim into a position where he has to spend time refuting such a statement. I still don’t think he is coming back to college. The fact that his brother and Pete Carroll both have rings has to grate him. I believe he ends up in Miami.

If he wants to win a Super Bowl, I'm not sure he ends up in Miami. If there is any merit to him 'losing the locker room,' Jim may understand that the NFL is not for him. I love jim harbaugh, but honestly in the nfl, I don't see him staying in one place for more than 3-4 years, that's how he has been his whole life. In college, he gets new kids every four years. I'm not saying he's coming but seems like there is smoke to him not wanting to stay in the nfl...

Oakland...the place where coaches go to die. No way Harbaugh goes to Oakland.

Look, JH is an old school coach a la Bo Schembechler who kicks ass and requires his players have total accountability. That doesn't go over so well in the NFL where often times spoiled NFL players don't like to be told they're not a team player or they're not trying hard enough. Disciplinarians aren't popular in NFL locker rooms especially when the team isn't realizing their goals.

JH rubs people the wrong way which is why he's out of sorts with the Frisco FO and why he doesn't have a new contract even though he's brought a level of success the Niners haven't had for years. 3 NFCCG's and a SB appearance.

I think/hope/pray that if/when things go awry in the Bay Area he'll come to realize that the way he likes to coach is much more suited to the college game than the pros. He'll realize he can save himself the headaches that come with having to manage NFL egos. In college he gets to be the dictator he wants to be. College kids will run through walls for him because of his old school style and his resume of success. No ego's to stroke, no FO politics to worry about. Simplicity.

Jim can follow in his mentor's footsteps and take the program out of the darkness into the light as Bo did in 1969. "Next to my dad, right on the same level as my dad, is Bo Schembechler. One of the greatest coaches to ever coach the game." - JH 2013

I've said this all along, I think Jim wants to coach here and I think the timing is right. The Niners have a real chance of flaming out in the highly competitive NFC West (4-4 and just lost to the lowly Rams at home!) and Brandon is no longer an obstacle that clearly would not have worked with way Jim wants to run things. AD in the film room? No way sir!

Not necessarily. See Bobby Petrino. But harbaugh does not strike me as a guy who would leave his team while they still had a chance at the playoffs. I don't even think he'd leave before the end of the season if his team didn't have a chance at the playoffs. But at this point who knows. There are so many variables and contingencies that no body anywhere knows for certain how things will turn out and when (unless Bates and harbaugh already have accepted positions and are just waiting for appropriate announcement time)

This possibility makes me wonder about a couple of aspects of coaching... 1. To be a physical team does your coach have to be willing to be an ass? 2. Hoke's issue then is that he's too much of a player's coach and can't go there...he won at other places because he's such a great recruiter he could do what Brian called hero ball lesser teams...but he can't do that even in a weak big ten, and he can't out scheme... Harbaugh will be successful because of that, then...I've already shared my cool bro story of Harbaugh getting in a tight end's face when the guy gave me grief refereeing an intramural basketball game...and that was a sophomore...there's a level of intensity that he can go to that I just don't think Hoke is capable of...

Guys, guys, I have it on good authority from at least 1 poster from each thread mentioning Jim Harbaugh in the last 2 years - he ain't coming. Theres absolutely no chance. I don't know how Jack doesn't know what so many of our MGoBrethren have known all along. His wife won't leave the bay, Jim loves the NFL challenge, Jim's burned too many bridges at Michigan. Done deal. Jack may need to start spending more time with his children.

Interesting, if true. I wonder if they are deliberately trying to force the next AD's hand. They know there are factions at UM that will be against hiring JH, and they want to ensure that the next AD will be under severe public pressure to offer Harbaugh the job.

is kind of a DB.  (& I should know because I'm an epic DB)

He & I got into a bit of a fight in a Kalamazoo bar back when he was the Head Coach @WMU.

We were heckeling his live radio show and he finally lost it.

They threw him out instead of me.

I think - after Harbaugh hearing dantonio run his mouth....he wants to come back & show him what a real Mich team can do & whip his ass all over the field. He still will have time to go win a super bowl ring....after he wins a few NC rings while head coach here. Bring in Charles for db coach also lol

I know everybody likes to think they know that We have no chance for Jimmy b/c his wife won't move or Ross will outbid us or whatever, but until he comes out and flat out turns us down, he is coming here.

In an effort to scuttle the deal, Herbstreit will announce "Harbaugh to Michigan" on the morning of the niner's biggest playoff game.

Harbaugh will try desperately to reach UM's new AD to find out if the rumor is true.

But Gene Smith has kidnapped UM's AD.  He's bound and gagged him and put him on a boat with no means of outside communication.

Then

The ghost of George Steinbrenner will offer Harbaugh $100 million to coach the Yankees.

Adding to the rumor mill: buddy if mine ran into a guy at the gym who's been a long time victors club member. Guy said deal already done: Harbaugh for $50M over 6 years. High probability of BS, but wouldn't that just make everyone's day?

Sure it sounds too good to be true, but who makes up such a rumor? It's intriguing, especially with all of the chatter that Jim Harbaugh would take the job if offered or former teammates saying he'll be the next coach. God I hope this is true.

Of course, maybe I'm missing the sarcasm.

I'd sort of ruled out Jim Harbaugh and have been having nightmares that someone would be smiling at a "M"-Podium declaring that Michigan had secure the coaching services of  Kirk Ferentz for the next 7 years.  The old Hoke-for-Ferentz nightmare. I know man. That's goddamned scary.

C'mon guys, it's time to start answering serious questions like: Harbaugh vs. a Hurricane named Harbaugh. Who wins? Harbaugh vs. God. The game is golf. Who wins?
