Leaving your alma mater puts a bad taste in people's mouth. No Gundy.

Ferris State University HC (Yeah I know it would never happen)
Ferris was absolute shit until he arrived in 2012. Currently has them ranked as a top 15 program. Top 5 rushing offense. Pretty good turnaround in only a couple of seasons. Great motivator, intense and demands success. Enjoys wearing a headset. His sentences rarely start with the word well.

I'm a huge fan of Tony since his Muskegon days.

Needs to do these things:
* Take back all of the "Special numbers", and let the players be who they are, or at least earn those numbers. Funchess drops way too many balls and dogs too many plays to wear #1.
* Drop the "Zone Blocking", and let the O-line go back to the old-school smash-mouth blocking schemes that have worked so well for Michigan in the past, and perhaps as these young O-linemen mature, work in Zone blocking schemes to inhance what we are doing.
* Actually coach the W/R's to catch the ball, run double moves to get open, and come back to the QB when he is under duress.
* Have a plan for where the RB's are going to run the ball on each play so they run in the holes created by the line, and not just Helter Skelter.
* Use some creativity in play calling, roll the pocket, use misdirection plays, develop the quick slant, like Green Bay did, executed correctly, it is virtualkly impossible to stop. Mix up the Offense so the Defense does not know what is coming next.
* Play tight coverage, jam recievers on the line. The Ref's can't call everything.
* Fix the Special Teams, and at least let them be a wash rather than a win for the other team.
* Wear a headset and communicate with every unit on the team.
* Make adjustments on the fly, from play to play, if possible, or even series to series, but not from half to half, or even game to game.
Any coach who does these things will win with this team, even the resident dummy in charge, but he won't, and we will see change in A.A. this Winter.

The only person I'd keep from this staff is Roy Manning.

That's interesting. I saw someone mention Mike Hart (I was assuming tongue-in-cheek) in an earlier post.
I thought it might not be a bad idea to bring in Hart or Wheatley to replace Jackson as RB's coach.

He's already an RB coach in the NFL working with CJ Spiller and Fred Jackson (NTFJ). If he comes to Michigan, it will be at least as OC and possibly even HC. We should definitely interview him for HC and see what kind of coordinator hires he proposes. Also it might help with signing his son.

He's definitely a guy that you should approach to see how serious his school is when it comes to keeping him.

with this guy. Mark Helfrich is doing a pretty good job at Oregon and we might be able to lure him away with big money and the easier competition in the B1G.

As Brian states, he's only getting paid 1.8M. He runs an uptempo system, predicated on rushing. The offense would be exciting and wouldn't be half as abrasive as RR was.
I like the idea of BYU's coach or Kirby Smart.
The problem with all this is, no coach worth his salt is coming here as long as Brandon is in charge.
We need someone with some anger and wants to curbstomp Dantonio and Meyer. We need a coach with a chip on his shoulder that appreciates great defense, but wants to score a lot of points and can recruit SPEED!

First time posting. I'm an alum of both BYU and Michigan (grad school), and I follow both football teams closely. I have seen multiple posts about Bronco in this thread and I thought my insight as a BYU fan on Bronco might be informative.
I would be very surprised to see Bronco leave BYU for another coaching position. He is very comfortable there. He enjoys tying his faith to his work as as coach, something he wouldn't be able to do as freely elsewhere. He is just shy of 50 and I see him coaching no more than 10 years (really closer to 6-8) and then spending as much time as possible with his family and surfing (he loves it).
However, if he did leave BYU, I see him going to one of two types of institutions. The first would be a service academy (e.g., Navy, Air Force). He has spoken glowingly about the service academies in the past and greatly admires the institutions and their missions. The second type of place that could attract him is a place like Michigan. One of his foci as a coach is tradition. That was his mantra when taking over at BYU, restoring tradition and success. He would work hard to connect his team and program to past Michigan greats and traditions. He wouldn't necessarily try to emulate the same playing style, but he would ensure that the current team was well educated in the great traditions and success of past Michigan players and teams. He might see restoring Michigan's tradition and success as a challenge he would like to face.
If he were to leave BYU for Michigan I would be saddened as a BYU fan but very happy as a wolverine. I think Michigan would be wise to strongly consider him when the time comes.

He might be getting paid $1.8m now, but Phil Knight will match that in a heartbeat

Others have mentioned him, and I don't know much about him other than what's on Wikipedia, but Craig Bohl is interesting.

coached at Wisconsin and Nebraska, great record at North Dakota, 104–32.

There is no Saban or urban out there. Saban was a complete failure in Miami and wanted out. Urban was sitting on his ass and wanted back in.
There is no savior out there so stop making stupid threads like this. You sound like the ND idiots that still think Gruden is coming to save them.

I'm on board the Gundy train. He's my #2 now. Long term sustained winning, with a very high demonstrated upside (winning a BCS bowl).
Go to him and aggressively sell the program. Give him a big fat offer and see if T. Boone matches it.
October 2nd, 2014 at 9:22 AM ^
I don't think Gundy ditches his alma mater for us. Unless he's starting to get really tired of losing to Oklahoma every year, but either way, I think he's got everything he wants there. If we come calling, OK State will undoubtedly try to match. Don't know if they can outbid us, but for Gundy, I don't think this decision would come down to money.
Who would I want that's realistic? Maybe Craig Bohl. I'd like to see how he does this year at Wyoming, but his North Dakota State teams were off the charts good. 3 straight national titles says a lot, my friends. He's a proven winner and judging by his resume, I'm assuming he can develop talent. Which, you know, would be something we'd want. I'm guessing he'd want to prove himself by coming here. No-name hires have worked before.
Don't think I'd really want Miles at this stage. Getting up there in age, and while he can recruit with the best of them, he's never really been able to put a lights-out offense on the field. Its always been meh offense with the hopes that his defense can shut the other side down. I don't think that's the philosophy I really want. Besides, except for his 2 years in national title appearances, he always seems to lose 1-2 head scratcher games, or get dangerously close to losing them.
Kliff Kingsbury - Let's talk about it at the end of the year. Looks like he's getting Texas Tech turned around, but will he want to leave his alma mater? Not sure. My gut says no. But he's got the offense I think I'd want.
Dan Mullen - again, evaluate at the end of the year. He's had a whole lot of meh up until now at Mississippi State. If he can beat Auburn or Alabama, he's definitely got my attention. Until then, I'm not sure. Good offensive mind, for sure.

Plus he, by his very arrival, would signify the death of the Carr kabal or whatever you want to call it and those are the assholes who put us in this mess. Whatever pisses on them the most is what I support (along with winning first of course) and I see a Les Miles hire as a big F.U to a bunch of stuffed shirts who think THEY alone get to define what it means to be Michigan
October 2nd, 2014 at 10:09 AM ^
I would prefer a up and coming head coach of a smaller program or an up and coming coordinator over a head coach from a power 5 conference. Narduzzi (pipe dream) and Pruitt would be my first two choices for current coordinators to move up.

Not a spotlight guy, plus I fail to see how Oregon doesn't match any Michigan offer with all their resources. Or they let him bounce which means there's someone they like better.
