I know I'm new (long time lurker), and you guys are gonna get on me for not naming any sources, but word from a source close to the situation is that Harbaugh is being offered 10 years, 65 million with a say in the next AD hiring and control over all football operations.
December 14th, 2014 at 8:32 PM ^
but I can't. No offense.
December 14th, 2014 at 8:36 PM ^
You never believe anyone and hate on everything. All Harbaugh news that's positive is true and all Harbaugh news that's negative is lies. FIGURE IT OUT SALVATORE!!!!!

Sounds legit.
December 14th, 2014 at 8:46 PM ^
Really? Weird. My source was saying the contract offer was more in the Giancarlo Stanton range.

That was exactly my offer two weeks ago, but 5 years at 6.5 mil per year, the final say on the AD hire and total control of football operations. Maybe I'm in the wrong line of work.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:49 PM ^
but 10 years is pretty insane. I'd be shocked if we gave him a 10 year deal. 5 years is a lot more realistic
December 14th, 2014 at 10:14 PM ^
Maybe I'm ignorant, but in college don't the coaches always have "total control of football operations"?

I'll take it, sure.

Jim Harbaugh on his near future with the 49ers: “I’m always available to sit down with the owner and the general manager, absolutely”

Just sit down with Hackett!

I want JH as Michigan coach, but the knowledge's comments, and the dude earlier in this thread who remarked on karma, have made me crazy nervous.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
It's not like we shut the lights off in the stadium and that caused the 49ers to lose. I think most fans are just excited thinking that the stars are aligning and they are hoping that all of these events lead to a happy ending for everyone. 49ers want Harbaugh gone anyways, Michigan wants Harbaugh. Happy ending for all.
December 14th, 2014 at 8:48 PM ^
Jimmy, please!
December 14th, 2014 at 8:41 PM ^
My neighbors son played for him in college and years later they are still tight she said. No insight as to his decision but she said her son loves him still and that he had a huge positive impact on his life...only great things to say.
Wins and losses are important but what she has told me about him makes me want to coach at Michigan even more.

I met JH at the '98 Indy 500 when he approached my friends and I randomly, introduced himself and talked to us for about five minutes. The Michigan fan that I am, of course I knew who he was. He didn't have to do what he did, but I feel it's testimony to his personality. Little did I know at the time that I was meeting the future HC of the University of Michigan.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:26 PM ^
Funny, he had just graduated when I was in college. He used to come back every now and then to visit. He had just started in the NFL at that time. I remember at one point he came to fraternity party across the street (not my house but the one kitty corner from us). He was talking to a girl who was a Theta who was widely considered, at the time, to be the absolute hottest girl at Michigan by those in the Greek system. He went up to her and tried to give her his best rap. She had no idea who he was. He ended up telling her exactly who he was, but this did not help. Even pulled the old, "do you know when I am?" She still did not know who he was. It was a funny situation because he failed just like the rest of us did. Still wonder what happened to her. She really was hot.

She probably looks rough now, just like all women over 45.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:01 PM ^
Can anyone assuage this fear I have in my gut that Harbaugh would be unwilling to have his NFL career end in being fired or loosing his last several games? He is a man who cares about his reputation. I think we have his heart and he would return to Ann Arbor, but I hope his pride does not get in the way. He surely does not wish to be seen as a coach who "couldn't make it in the NFL", but rather as a coach who had everything in the NFL but chose to be the next Bo above it all.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:04 PM ^
I think you're right, he hates to fail. The only reason to stay is he cannot stand to leave the NFL not having been the best. However, maybe he can view taking Michigan back to dominance as a good reason.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:04 PM ^
He's had plenty of success in SF. I don't think anyone could call him a failure.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:05 PM ^
Maybe people could think that, but he has already had much success. If he wins a couple NCs and playoff appearances no one will question his coaching chops.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:07 PM ^
And no ones looking at Saban like he's a chump are they? If he can manage Saban-like success he will be far more legendary than any NFL coach who has won one SB and a couple conference titles/appearances. People try to run Coughlin out of town every other year and he's won two!
December 14th, 2014 at 9:09 PM ^
That's the argument I want people to make to him. The NFL cannot provide eternal memory or the depth of devotion that turning aroung Michigan can. Saban-like success would make his memory last a hundred years or more.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:20 PM ^
My hope is that he is looking at this through the lens of his life's arc - he's here because of a very few important years under Bo. It's time he repaid the favor for the next generation.
Sure, he could potentially have another shot at this in 4-7 years, but that puts him in his mid/late 50s...who knows what his life will be like at point. Or there may never be another shot at this due to timing.
All I know is that if he doesn't come here at this point, it's because he flat turned it down. All locks on the doors are removed - he just has to walk through the door.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:29 PM ^
That produces a lot of confidence. For the first time in 3 coaching searches, I know the AD is going full throttle for the guy I think we should go for.
And right about now, I think he's coming.
Hail Harbaugh!
Now, for a cheer! They shall be triumphant!
Here they'll come with banners flying
With shouts of victory nighing
We Harbaugh! We Harbaugh!
We greet you now. Hail!
December 14th, 2014 at 9:08 PM ^
What is happening with the 49ers right now is the result of JH and the front office (and some players) not working well together. It's just a bad locker room. It should not reflect on his tenure as a whole in the NFL.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:12 PM ^
I see that. I trust the rest of the world sees that. The question is: Does he see that?
December 14th, 2014 at 9:06 PM ^
DUPLICATE.
Sorry. Frozen browser.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:09 PM ^
But understand the point....
December 14th, 2014 at 9:11 PM ^
I think this moves up the time table. If Harbaurgh is coming we should know within four days. Harbaughs competitive season is effectively over. If hes coming here it's time to go to start planning for the future at Michigan. If he wants to wait to see what other pro offers come his way, he's not coming IMO and I'm not sure if we;d really want him then anyway if we were a consolation prize. We'll know by Thursday I think.
December 14th, 2014 at 9:14 PM ^
Honestly, I'm fine with being a 'consolation prize' if it meant Harbaugh were to coach Michigan.
