CC: MGoBlog a "respected Michigan source" according to Fox Sports
An article from Fox Sports CFB AM about the coaching search.
Roughly 6 paragraphs down, sources are mentioned regarding to coaching search information:
" MGoBlog, a respected Michigan source on the Web, is saying that things are in motion between the two sides."
Not that people around the country weren't familar with the blog before this but still pretty cool for the blog to be mentioned in a such a postive way just prior to a mention of the Detroit News.

It's influential! We took down Dave Brandon!!!!
Well, maybe not so much "we." I just watched and made disposable posts...

but honestly there is no way Dave Brandon would have been removed without the protest in front of the president's house and of couse the email story. Brian/mgoblog is a force to be reckoned with.

They can trust us.
All joking aside, I could see if they contact Brian and asked him. They would still be getting 3rd hand information. Is that even a thing?

My question is, would the first Jager bottle empty first? Or would there be even emptying from all bottles?

Right. Fox Sports is here, along with Football Scoop.
The profession of journalism is really not what is used to be. What passes for reporting these days is nothing more than rumormongering.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:05 AM ^
Rumormongering... and don't forget reporting on the work that others have done (occasionally even citing that other source.)

or submitting columns that are complete fabrications. cough, Mitch, cough.

Despite the complaints about rogue posters, unsubstantiated speculation, wild and crazy rumermongering and repetitive posts that irritate some members of the MGoBlog Community, for me MGoBlog often contains the best resources for information and some of the best analysis of activities and developments in the University of Michigan's athletic programs.
Of course, it's probably wise to consider the dangers of relying on "Citizen Journalism" when we're seeking the truth.
Embed For Those Who Haven't Seen HBO's "The Newsroom"
If all of the fascination with the Michigan football coaching search that's driving clicks, eyeballs and eardrums and forcing us to deal with more speculation and rumormongering is due to a veil of secrecy imposed by the "Jim H's" (Hackett and Harbaugh), then it might be safe to say that we're all probably just going to have to wait and see. . . . But I'll keep tuning into MGoBlog -- "same Bat time; same Bat station."

Upvote purely for a newsroom video. That show was the best

I'm sure the blog also appreciates it when another news sources takes a multiparagraph article and boils it down to a few words that seem to imply something the original post did not.

That's both awesome and funny. I hope they are only referring to the main page stuff that Brian and Ace do, not the edge of the board where people get upset over UNIFORMZ and things like last nights CC: Marc Trestman thread.

I agree. It was just one example of the many pieces of opinion that detract from how great this board really is. For the most part everyone here is awesome, however it only takes one Trestman thread to get that in Hackett's head and *BOOM* he's our new coach. /s

Brian said nothing of the sort. Good one, Fox Sports.
Should anyone wonder why internet blogs have no credibility? Because national media idiots misquote them then hold them accountable for being misquoted.

That MGoBlog, he's a pretty okay guy. For a blogger. Who blogs and smells like cabbage (unconfirmed).
Honestly with the inch-deep, drive-by MSM sports journalism out there when does this trope flip on its head? I get that there are 10 chatsports for every MGoBlog but if you want actual nuanced discussion (along with ALL the snarkz!) where else do you go? Sure as hell not the Freep, ESPN or NBC Sports. Yahoo! Sports for a time seemed pretty alright I suppose.

With that being said, I have people to rule and poutine to eat.
December 17th, 2014 at 10:59 AM ^
Of course it is a relative standard - so as a peer reviewed scientific journal, no, MGoBlog would not qualify but in the sports blog 24/7 info world, it is a respected source. Here is why:
1. In general the information is accurate.
2. The site is NOT obsessed with being first but cares a lot about being correct. Accuracy over speed.
3. The moderators keep control of the site so it is not a raging cess pool of haters, NSFW pictures and crazy stuff - it is focused on UM sports but embraces all UM stuff - so if something notable happens in one of the other sports it gets a mention and people are tolerant of reasonable OT issues.
Keep up the great work, and Go Blue!

If there are indeed positive developments in 2014 around here, one of them probably is the increase in notoriety of this place between the Brandon drama and eventual ousting and now the updates via "Searchbits" regarding where the school seems to be with regard to this search. If I recall correctly, this fall has seen more traffic than ever, and for the folks who run the place, that definitely isn't a bad thing.

Gotta figure Searchbits is bringing in the cash if Brian is dropping them on the daily. Not that that's a bad thing.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I don't think Brian actually reported anything. He is simply summarizing and analyzing what he hears from other sources on the internet and radio. Maybe Fox Sports should go to his actual sources and put them on the spot.
December 17th, 2014 at 12:31 PM ^
A good amount of his opinion highlighted various insiders and information providers that he has been in contact with directly.
Brian gets a considerable # of emails and other forms of information and as some sources are accurate over the years he logs them appropriately.
December 17th, 2014 at 11:14 AM ^
The question is if Fox Sports is a respected source, right?

Just taking a step back and looking at this in reverse...
If Harbaugh's plan IS to stay in the NFL, then everything he's doing re: no comment on coaching jobs and finishing out the season with SF makes complete sense in light of the NFL tampering rules.
By contrast, if his plan were to coach at Michigan, none of that would be necessary. I know that the popular counter argument to this is that he and Hacket are just pretending so that Michigan doesn't have to pay some extra pennies for his buyout, but that strikes me as a pretty self-serving theory. If Michigan really has fuck you money to throw at Harbaugh and is willing to pay whatever it takes to right the ship, I don't see how letting the recruting period wither away in order to save a few bucks would be part of that master plan.
I just don't see it happening, guys. With that said, I have faith in Hackett that he'll select a good coach. Its just unfortunate that all the "you're not a Michigan man" stuff that Rich Rod had to deal with will have by then morphed into "you're not Jim Harbaugh" for our next coach.
