CC: Mark Richt

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

I know we've bandied this about in general CC threads, but thought it was worthwhile to discuss a high-major coach who may be on the market after this season. Bulldog fans are getting a bit restless and Richt (or UGA) may be looking to make a change. What would you say to having Richt in Ann Arbor?

Note: One of the Michigan Rivals mods is saying he's heard Richt may be in play absent an SEC Championship win, and that he'd be looking to land at a major non-SEC program in that event.

Yes, please.  I wanted Martin to go after Richt in '07.  Wanted Brandon to go after him in '11.  Want whomever to go after him in '14 (if Harbaugh says no).

He's built a consistent program in a state that traditionally has okay talent, but not Fla/Tx/Cal/Oh level talent.  He appears to be as "on the up-and-up" as you can be in the SEC.

I like him a lot, and he would bring the instant boost that the program requires.

Georgia is a big time talent state, easily on par with Ohio, and they neighbor other big time talent states in FL, AL and somewhat SC.  He has a much better talent advantage at UGA than he would at Michigan.

I am not saying he is the right guy, or he's the best guy but I think.

He may be the best guy available and it's going to be Mark Stoops. Up and coming don't have to over pay Ohio ties with Florida West Coast and S EC pedigree. Wears a headset.

he may be the most under performing coach in the country. if you combined our teams, the 50 best players save funchess and Jake Ryan would be Georgia players.

That makes him underperforming? We're 4-5 with maybe one quality win. I can argue you're statement is true about 90% of SEC teams compared to ours this season. The poster above has a legitimate point about him being Lloyd-like, but he's a been a consistent winner in the hardest league in college football.

I live in North Florida. He has talent galore and blows every big game. He is terrible. Do I try to compare myself against a shitty coworker (Hoke)? Hoke being a losing coach doesn't impact us picking a coach.

No thanks. It is Harbaugh or the Highway. If there ever was a time for Harbaugh, it is now. Jim, come home. Be the hero. Fix Michigan Football and for ever be a God in Football lore.

Georgia poops themselves every year. No way.

And plus everyone says he runs a ''clean'' program yet Georiga always has someone suspended or arrested. And before you tell me ''Well he suspends guys that other places would play'' how about getting guys that don't get arrested to begin with?

Plus they're in one of the most talented states in the nation in terms of high school talent and they do nothing with it.

No. Nonononono. Michigan-born, Georgia-educated poster/fan. Have been in Athens 16 years. Richt is over coaching. He is a "good guy" but cares more about that stuff, God, family and being a good person than football at this point. No passion, won't cut Bobo loose, blah. I know there are a lot worse coaches out there but I think he really just doesn't care that much anymore. Does the weirdest trick plays at the weirdest times instead of when really needed. Did you see the Florida game last weekend? NO

and come directly to a Big Ten team since 1960 is tiny—it appears to be two: Hayden Fry going from N. Texas St. to Iowa, and Fred Akers going from Texas to Purdue. However, Akers was either fired by TX or was going to be, and it's highly unlikely any coach would willingly ditch a program like Texas for Purdue.

Cooper was born in Tennessee and coached at Tulsa, but he came to OSU from ASU and his the entirety of his coaching experience aside from Tulsa was midwest and west coast.

That's not to say it's impossible to lure a guy from the deep south, but it would be bucking a historical trend that's over a half-century in extent.

Dear god ... no!

There is this UGA homer at my gym.  We talk football a lot, and he describes Mark Richt as the Tony Romo of college coaching.  Basically, he manages to shit the bed in the absolute worst possible way.  This week the UGA guy just walked passed me and said Tony Romo just lost to Florida...  Pretty much the truth.

What's it's take for a realistic, CC post thread to b put on here???? Just signed back in and won't allow me too. I'm so tired of reading farfetched candidate posts when I have a well researched option.
