CC: Local Radio Theory

Submitted by Augger on

OK take this one with a giant grain of salt as I trust radio people even less than I trust print sources, but if you are like me, you are scouring any and all sources for info so I offer this: On WDFN here in Detroit Ryan Ermanni (Pro-Michigan guy for what it is worth) is reporting the following...

1. The boosters and big money donation folks want Harbaugh in the worst way and are willing to put in cash to make it happen.

2. Brandon loves Brady Hoke, he would be his first choice of coach.

3. Mary Sue Coleman wants anyone other than Harbaugh based on his DUI, messy divorce, and the shot he took at UM a few years ago regarding academics.

His theory is that Brandon and MSC have to at least appear to be talking to Harbaugh to keep the boosters from going nuts, but are going to make sure the negotiations go nowhere so they can hire Hoke in the end.

Dear lord.

Hopefully its just another crazy rumor...lets all hope for the best whomever the new coach may be.

Harbaugh needs to be the guy.  If Michigan is still the elite program that we all believe it to be then the university needs to make this happen.  "Make him an offer he can't refuse....."

i really hope that after the last CC, MSC has learned to back off and let DB handle things this time.  she has said such in her press conferences, remarking the decision is DBs

"1. The boosters and big money donation folks want Harbaugh in the worst way and are willing to put in cash to make it happen."

I'll buy that.

"2. Brandon loves Brady Hoke, he would be his first choice of coach."

I find that depressing beyond my worst nightmares.  Even with the possibility (suggested by another poster) of an "all-star staff," the whole thing would reek vaguely of K-State bringing back Bill Snyder.  Sorry -- the BoMoCarr era is over.  It was failing often near the end.

"3. Mary Sue Coleman wants anyone other than Harbaugh based on his DUI, messy divorce, and the shot he took at UM a few years ago regarding academics."

Ridiculous.

Of our fanbase over the last few days - years actually - is nothing short of deplorable.  And...that some are going virtually postal over the mere possibility of Hoke is an embarassment.  Given where we are as a football program, we all just need to shut the hell up and see where this goes.

Au contraire, I'd argue that all the positive talk about Hoke is a sign that the fan base has (embarrassingly) started to panic.  In a logically ordered universe (which, indeed, we may not have here) Hoke's "job ceiling" in early 2011 would be Indiana U.  It would not extend as high as the school with the most football victories.

The coaching staff is being replaced with the writing staff from Family Guy.

That's right: the manatees.

You see, the athletic department places a bunch of football concept balls in a large tank, and the 'coaches' select individual balls.  The team then takes those balls and assembles them into a coherent gameplan and set of play calls.  If you are curious, we have some old game film from their time at Family Guy:

I have heard his name thrown out on 3 national stations this morning while driving.  An interesting conundrum:  Assuming JH is off the table, would the masses go for Miles before Hoke?

Another point mentioned is that one does not wait a month to get Hoke and that it almost has to be a big name now.

Universally it was mentioned that RR is a good coach and will do well elsewhere, but he wasn't a good fit here and was actually their 3rd choice last time around.  So, we couldn't get 1st choice last time and the stars are lining up for that to happen again.  What has happened to our program?

I don't remember how involved MSC was in the last CC, but I can't believe she would get personally deeply involved.  And if she is, she really shouldn't be:

A -- She doesn't know anything about college football as far as I know

B -- She has far more important things to worry about.

The theory makes painfully logical sense (if not the reasoning for the actions behind it). Even more so after the happenings of today. Good post.
