CC: Les Miles...Whispers Growing Louder?

Submitted by Cali Wolverine on
My LSU friends are getting nervous for the 3rd time in 7 years as they are hearing whispers of Les Miles to Michigan pending an end to our current tenuous coaching situation. They sent me this link: http://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/lsu-football/les-miles-michigan-rumors/ Personally, I thought he was the fit 7 years ago, but after the last two disasters I would be more than happy with an SEC coach that can recruit in the South and has won a National Championship.

But it's not for what people think.

Long story short: While Miles and Carr were assistants together, Carr was having an affair with the wife of Bill McCartney's brother. Miles was close with McCartney, so he naturally defended him and slighted Carr. This women is now Carr's current wife.

A lot of people like to twist the story to somehow make Miles the bad guy. In actuality, Carr was being the scumbag.

Rather than insulting you, I'll simply ask how your timeline works. You accused Carr of having an affair with someone while Miles was on the staff. Someone he had been married to for many years by then.

My answer was not a story, by the way. They're facts you can look up. You might try that rather than spreading your stories..

Supposedly. The big rumor (IIRC) is Miles while the OL coach under Moeller is that he either hit on Moeller's wife or possibly more with her. It would explain why Miles was not retained on Michigan's staff from Moeller to Carr, and several other coaches (Mattison, Jackson, Hermann, DeBord, Kit Cartwright, Bobby Morrison). The only new faces were Vance Bedford, Erik Campbell, and Brady Hoke.

If I were Les' agent, I'd tell Michigan this if they came calling: Les Miles is one of the best coaches in the country, and a proven guy. If you want him, put an offer in writing, show us you're serious, and then we will meet with you. Otherwise, pound sand.I'm not going to see my client embarrassed by Michigan again.

Although I believe he is better coach than Hoke he too has difficultly articulating a full sentence! But also, his teams seem to so often stumble through the first half or longer and then barely win in the end simply because of their superior athletes versus great coaching in my opinion.

As living in lafayette which is half ass baton rouge lite despite having a new decent football program... lsu fans were freaking the hell out the last time the michigan jet was in baton rouge. Before that jet arrived, they were being typical fickled, fair weather fans. But once they realized they wouldnt have anyone decent to replace him, they went bat shit crazy. They will act like they want him gone until they realize they cant the same caliber coach to replace him. And the fact he would leave their program thats been dominant forvever in their eyes bc they think 10 years is forever in their uneducated mind.for another university and same position, they will go ape shit

Les could ride into A2 on a white horse and resurrect Michigan football. For real, this time.

I think he'd be a great fit for our football team right now.

I just have heartburn over the type of player he would try and recruit. Lsu isn't exactly the budding Rhodes scholar school. Just worried it'd take him a little longer to get back to B1G standards... Plus i just don't think he'd give up his young stud talent who are going to be VERY good in 1-2 years....

Yes his offense is crazy young this year - during the Wisconsin-LSU game I think they said every single skill player from 2013 was drafted.  So it was basically the OL plus new dudes everywhere and it showed.  If Fournette is everything he is cracked up to be, and the QB develops they should be very good in 2015 but they dont take well to even 4 loss seasons down there and LSU has that potential this year.

This remains on LSU's plate:

  • @Auburn
  • Ole Miss
  • Alabama
  • @Texas A&M
  • @Arkansas

If Big Bert is turning around Arkansas, Miles could go 2-3 despite having a pretty darn good team in that stretch.  And that doesnt even include Florida which I assume will be bad this year.

Make sure you're clear, Rodriguez took a lot of kids who were barely or unable* to meet NCAA minimums. Very few football players probably meet Michigan's 25-75% ACT numbers. They have elite

*We screwed Demar Dorsey. Rodriguez and admissions should have known he wouldn't be admitted before he signed an LOI.

I guess I can't blame you as you are the typical arrogant Michigan head up his ass fan.  LSU has 14 Rhode Scholars. Michigan has 25. And the great thing about LSU students is that they are a hell lot friendlier than many of the douche Michigan students I have encountered. http://www.rhodesscholar.org/assets/uploads/Rhodes%20Scholarships_Numbe…

I kind of see Miles as a bigger longshot than either of the Harbaugh brothers. I think what's going to happen is he's going to be a hot topic to be the next coach and he'll parlay it into more money from LSU. His team is stacked young talent and LSU will be a national title contender again over the next couple of years. Same thing happened the last time Michigan was "looking" for a new coach. I think the following season was when LSU went into the BCS title game undefeated and then lost to Alabama. Who knows though, maybe he'd be intrigued with being the guy that finally helped Michigan get back to national prominence. His love for Bo could also be a big pull for him and this would likely be his last shot.

I know this migh be a shock, but Michigan isn't LSU.  Academic expectations are high up north.  And so is strictly sticking to the 25 scholarship limit.
