bwahaha, like Saban removed himself from consideration from every job he was dying to have until it was announced.

On the other hand this makes total sense from the standpoint Hackett has told Miles he has Harbaugh "in the bag".

Anyhow, more importantly Jimmie Kaylor is essentially reporting all signs point to Harbaugh coming to UM.

Who is Jimmie Kaylor you might ask?

Just someone who has NEVER been wrong about anything.  #FACT

This signals one of two non-mutually-exclusive things: he figures he won't be offered the job, or he has reached a new contract extension with LSU.

"Miles did not go on the record during the meeting, but he informed numerous members of the media that he will not be the next head coach at the University of Michigan."

Does this make sense? If he was truly removing himself from consideration, why not go on record?

He could say that he's not interested but it doesn't really mean anything at this point. He's not going to publically say that he's interested in Michigan or he doesn't know before his bowl game.

You have to deny your candidacy for the sake of recruiting and keeping the locals happy. You keep your position at LSU as strong as possible until you're at a press conference announcing you're now at Michigan (assuming the latter becomes possible and you want the job).

Is it possible that this is a veiled ultimatum from Les?

The rumors are out there that his agent has been approached - maybe this is Les' way of telling the AD that he won't sit around for a month and be Michigan's second choice, and that the AD better decide soon if it wants him or not.

Contact is different from an offer.  If we reached out to gauge interest (which we almost certainly did), but then did not move forward once Miles had expressed that interest (which we obviously did not), then we sent a signal that Miles is smart enough to understand.

If you chat up a hot girl at the bar and then wait to take the next step, she'll eventually go back to what she was doing before you came along.  (This can work for you, though, if you have an even hotter girl flying in from San Francisco to "coach you up," if you know what I mean.)

When Jim has already signed to be our next coach. I think a deal has been in the works since Harbaugh requested that Brandon be fired. My guess is that he signed a contract before Thanksgiving and did not want it to be known until the end of the 49ers season. Everything else has been a smoke screen, the search committee, etc! Though now leaks are developing and the 49ers may have found out, especially when Jim failed to agreed to be traded. This could all come to a head a lot earlier than expected. My guess an announcement will have to be made sometime this week!

We are highly appealing.  But that doesn't mean that coaches don't sometimes benefit from distanching themselves from a coaching search where they might not be first in line.

In fact, the 2007 search was a good example of just how appealing we are.  Even after the then-current AD mismanaged every aspect of the search, he still managed to snag a red-hot Rich Rodriguez, who had no connections to the school and seemingly every reason to stay where he was.

The 2011 coaching search was so comically inept that we simply can't say how appealing we would have been to top coaches.  That ship, though, has been righted.  It's too soon to know whether Hackett will hit the grand slam, but he's a professional and he's shooting for the fences.

The LSU writer said that Miles was very candid and talked about this for fifteen minutes. Miles said something about not wanting to burn Michigan. Not sure what that means, not wanting to burn us by letting it be known he said no to an offer, or not wanting to burn us because we already have our plan A? This all is a roller coaster, just hope we end up with the right coach. Might not even be Harbaugh, but we can still end up with the next Bo.

I suspect that he didn't want to "burn" Michigan by creating a story that he was rejecting an offer on the table (which would have led to speculation that the search was in trouble), but that he nevertheless felt complelled to say something because the story otherwise could have burned him (by creating the impression that he was all-in, but spurned by Michigan).  Miles just needed to release some of the building pressure.

In the last hour I heard Gruden next coach and then that he said he will be on MNF for the next seven years and would not be coaching.

So far:

no Harbaugh

no Miles

no Gruden

Really not following, who else am I missing?

was officially a candidate? I don't know what Miles did in Ann Arbor and beyond but there remains a sphere of influence that would consider Hackett a hypocrite (based on doing things the right way) if he hired him. I've got nothing more than second hand recollections from those closer to the program. It isn't about Carr as some speculate but Bo and his guy Moeller. Hackett is of the age to know and have an opinion. Who knows.

Too much baggage.

Plan B is taking care of itself.

What is Plan C? Fitzgerald, Shaw, Narduzzi?

My gut is Hackett better get a Plan C going and soon.

The longer this goes the more people whisper into the ears of current players and future players.
