I know Hoke isn't officially done yet, but... I am going to continue to bang the drum for this guy until we get the official word that he's not interested. Enjoy the video below and ask yourself who he reminds you of:

...by doing what wins football games (last night's Oregon debacle aside):

  • Low TOs year after year
  • Always top 5 in net punting
  • Low penalties

To be a top 20 team in a major conference with the level of talent at his disposal is damned impressive.

Basically, they do the little things well and play mistake-free football.  (Again, their game against Oregon last night was completely out of character.)

If "about the same" means "significantly better than" in your strange world, then you're right.

Whittingham is in his 10th full season, going 81-41 and winning 6 of 7 bowl games, including a 31-17 upset beatdown of heavily-favored 12-1 #4 Alabama.

Hoke is in his 12th season, going 77-67 and winning 2 of 5 bowl games, including a 23-20 OT squeaker over underdog #17 VT.

This doesn't mean I think it's remotely likely that Wittingham would come here, though.

* Don't know why this is formatted the way it appears... the site has been really wacky lately. Brian needs to feed the hamsters more frequently.

These threads basically boil down to "Hey! Here's this guy who coaches football and it turns out that's EXACTLY what we are looking for. How about it guys?"

On that note, I suggest the guy from Remember the Titans.

Whoa, relax buddy. I wasn't commenting on your specific suggestion, rather commenting on the sheer number of these threads that get thrown out there focusing on guys who will never be realistically considered for the job.

I get that the point of the cc threads is for discussion but it all gets diluted when just about any coach with a verifiable pulse gets a thread.

These fucking CC threads of every coach, at every level in the country are overboard. Plus we get a thread for the same guy multiple times as well.

His teams are physically and mentally tough that also run a spread.

The problem is that he has no experience in the Midwest and is a Mormon. That makes him an unlikely  HC candidate.

ATM ate my debit card last night so I needed a good laugh. Everyone wants a positive reason to talk about our team. It sucks being an afterthought, and having to listen to all the sparty and buckeye slappies. That being said, the CC threads are getting out of control (not so much this one). I would just ask, that before anyone starts a CC thread, ask yourself if the guy is Jim or John Harbaugh, or Lombardi, Ditka, or Belichek? If not, you are gonna take some shit.

If Whitt was named as Michigan's coach, it would make the rivalry with OSU very interesting, seeing as Whitt was the Def Coordinator for Urban Meyer at Utah, and when Urban left Whitt took over as Head Coach.

Having said that, I would still rather have a Harbaugh.

He's shown that he can win, and his players always seem prepared. Not to beat a dead horse, but he's completed a perfect season, beaten 'Bama in a bowl game...I'll take him. Then again, if Bob Stoops were available, I think I'd prefer Bob. Ability to recruit the midwest through his Ohio high school contacts, and high school contacts in Texas and Oklahoma...yeah, sign me up for Stoops.

But yes, I'd welcome Mr. Whittingham with open arms.

Not saying it would necessarily be bad but I can't see the point in getting excited about a guy who has been at the same place for 20 years. Why leave for a school with zero ties?

IMO he would be a really good plan B hire.

I respect the way he's continued to build Utah's program. When they joined the PAC Utah didn't have the athletes/size to compete every week against better competition - he's upgraded their talent level and the results are showing.

He seems like a high-integrity, no cheating type, and he's been willing to adapt and make some interesting coaching hires.

While Utah is in a major conference, Michigan would be a big career step up. Utah is basically Rutgers - a school that's excited to finally be playing with the big boys (admittedly with more success in recent years). I think he would have to seriously consider an offer to coach Michigan.

still pathetic how bad we looked against them that game..  Their offense was horrific, and ours was even worse..  truly sad
