CC: John Harbaugh Totally Out of the Picture, Right?

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything, but JOHN Harbaugh is totally out of the picture, right? Back in November, we were saying the short list would be "Either one of the Harbaughs, or Les Miles." Now I'm not hearing anyone on any board say that he's in the mix.

The Ravens are 9-5 and they're still in the playoff picture, so that's a factor, I guess. But we're down to just one Harbaugh, right?

Remember how long ago Michigan won a national championship? That's how long it's been since the he's done anything in college.  He's a pro guy and was never leaving after he won that ring.

Michigan is/was legitimately interested according to reports. John through is only going to express any real interest if and after (1) he doesnt make the playoffs ... because if he does he's not available in our window, and (2) if Jim decides he's not interested.

So because of those conditions he's not a candidate, interest or not, simeply because if timing.

Because not all of us sit in on the all of the top meetings with Hackett and the search committe, as you do.

Oh, you're just a schmuck like everyone else, your info. comes from somewhere in the internet ether and can be right or wrong just like everything else?  Then you have your answer on why this is a question.

My point is we'll never really know.

Your point is "he is ... not interested ... and never has been..."

The rational behind your point is what....ak47 hacked in to John's brain...thank you for the insight.

The facts as stated are that we'll never know.

People can speculate all they want:

Against:

1)  Come on...what successfull NFL coach would ever go back to college?

2)  He wants to win more Superbowls

3)  The money is always better in the the NFL

4)  He said he's not interested when Hoke was still in the Job

5)  NFL is an easiar job because of the demands of recruiting all year.

Pro:

1)  He already won a superbowl.

2)  He's closely connected to M through his dad, Hoke, and GMatt.

3)  He has the chance to be one of four coaches that won both a SB and NC

4)  He's tired of his management in Baltimore (he wanted Ray out sooner)

5)  Of course he said he's not interested when Hoke was in the Job.

6)  Baltimore the town sucks and unlike a move from the Bay Area, AA is a big upgrade for qualify of live and a place to raise a family.

7)  Successful college coaches have more job security.

All of this is pure speculation...pro or con. And because of the timing...both M and John won't need to do the evaluation.

And no one will ever know.

Obviously I am not inside john harbuaghs head but this like speculating that bill belichik might be interested because he was in the state of michigan once.  There is literally no speculation, as in 0% that the Ravens have any interest in firing john or that he has any interest in leaving.  Nothing exists anywhere coming from anybody to suggest that anything could possibly happen and on this blog is literally the only place it is brought up.  We might all be internet schmucks but that doesn't mean we can't use logic and call out people who are delusional and fail to do so.

Also lol go fuck yourself Baltimore has its flaws but is still a great place to live.  It offers a ton of things Ann Arbor can't and while it depends on what your prefencs are in terms of suburbs vs. cities I would pick Baltimore 100 times out 100 as the place to live the rest of my life over Ann Arbor and I loved every minute I was at UM.

Edited to add that I also just realized you added already won a superbowl as a reason that makes it more likely that he will coach in college.  What kind of logical mental hurdles does it take to get to that point?  Hyper comptetitve people often just quite when they achieve something.

AA is great, but so is the rest of the state. Michigan has alot to offer that cannot be found in Maryland, just as Maryland has some things that cannot be found in Michigan.

Re: John Harbaugh there was an article early in the year January (rumored source/or interview) that John Harbaugh would like to come back to college and retire coaching at the U of M. He still has family in Michigan and would like to eventually move back to where he grew up and be around the rest of his family, I believe it said from his wifes side.

Was he really ever seriously in the picture? I've never thought he was coming back and couldn't understand why everyone around here thought he would. I'm not saying I wouldn't welcome him as coach because obviously he's the best candidate out there, I just never thought he would come back to college. Someone with that big of an ego would see going back to coach college as a sign he failed in the pros.

John will come in five year's time after another Super Bowl, to take over the 3-time B1G champs and National Champions from his brother Jim.  He'll coach for 10-12 years and hand it back over to Jim, when the two will rotate every 4 years, swapping head coach for coordinator duties. This will last until the next prophecy is sung from Burton Tower or the End of Times, whichever occurs first.

I remember that - for about 10 minutes after the BWW Bowl last year - a few "insiders" (who turned out to be not so inside - I'll put it that way) were playing up the idea of John Harbaugh in the then-remote possibility of Hoke's firing. However, it was back in late September or thereabouts when John publicly stated that he had no interest in leaving Baltimore, so he was essentially on the table only in the speculation of others.

I think the only reason he was ever mentioned as a possibility is because of the rumors that there were tensions between him and the Ravens' front office over the handling of the Ray Rice situation. Specifically, I think the rumor was that he demanded that Ray Rice be cut, he was rebuffed by the front office, and that he was livid when the video came out. But that talk seems to have died down, as opposed to the rumors about Jim Harbaugh's relationship with the 49ers' front office which have been constant and unrelenting.

To me he's always been about as likely than Sean Payton.

I think Sam's view is that JH/LM are far, far ahead of the third and fourth-place names.

Please give your sources that he wasn't.

I get amazed by such crap. Do we really know who has or has not been reached out to by Hackett or his reps?

Without a potential specifically stating they have had contact, I'm along for the ride. Most of us assume based on circumstantial thought that some individuals may be contacted and that is fine. But to say he hasn't or has seems equally a guess.

I think JUB was floating his name and it got some legs.

At this point in the game, any name other than Jim Harbaugh is a smokescreen. Once people figure that out, the world becomes easier.

Stoops would definitely be a home-run hire. But I haven't seen any substantial evidence that he's available. A bunch of columnists have suggested that he should go to Michigan. But nobody has indicated that he's among the candidates.

Frank Beckmann seemed to think John was very interested in being the Michigan coach.  Beckmann said so on BTN after the Hoke firing presser.  That seemed to be quite a while after this board stopped talking about John.  I suspect we would have heard at least something by now if it was a real possiblility though.  I also have absolutely no idea how connected Beckmann is.

A candidate for the Michigan job, but if Mr. Ross were to throw enough money at him, he may be the perfect fit to coach the Miami Dolphins. Imagine Jim coaching at Michigan, and John coaching in Miami, that way both interested parties get a Harbaugh for Christmas.

I never understood what exactly made him a candidate in the first place aside from the fact of what his last name is. When has the guy ever given any indication he might want to coach anywhere else?
