CC: John Harbaugh Totally Out of the Picture, Right?

Submitted by BursleyHall82 on

I just want to make sure I haven't missed anything, but JOHN Harbaugh is totally out of the picture, right? Back in November, we were saying the short list would be "Either one of the Harbaughs, or Les Miles." Now I'm not hearing anyone on any board say that he's in the mix.

The Ravens are 9-5 and they're still in the playoff picture, so that's a factor, I guess. But we're down to just one Harbaugh, right?

By the way, Sam seemed to say on WTKA this morning that the Final Four are Jim Harbaugh, Miles, Mullen and Mora. I got the strong impression he thinks it'll be one of those four.

it's a little scary that the only options on our list are:

  - An NFL NFC Champion coach,

  - A CFB National Champion coach,

  - Another CFB National Champion coach.

It's nice to have "stretch goals" and all, but man, this list is all-or-nothing.

No. I don't think he was ever really in it though. I know some people in the media floated the idea around, but I think the only reasoning was:

  1. Is a Harbaugh.
  2. He's already won a Super Bowl, so what does he have left to gain in the NFL?
  3. Mattison was his DC for a time in Baltimore, so Harbaugh would be able to re-unite with him.

I doubt he was ever really in the picture, since his job should be relatively safe after winning the Super Bowl just two years ago. I think the idea of his candidacy was based on the Ray Rice thing and John's reported-and-later-denied dissent over the Ravens keeping Rice initially.

John has no interest in the job and is solid with Baltimore. There was only a moment when it seemed he might shake loose from there and then speculation could begin but it never materiaized. We're NOT taking him from the Ravens.

Never was. I like Sam's final four list. That makes it safe to say that IF that list is correct and in the right order, then either Harbaugh or Miles will be the next head coach becase Miles is not turning it down. I'd be pretty damn happy with either one of these guys.

I would say Stoops is a grand slam also. He's had more success in college than Harbaugh and he is not a flight risk. I would be confident that he would be spending 10+ years with us whereas with Harbaugh we will be paying through the moon for maybe 5 years.

They're both exceedingly good coaches but take away the Michigan connection from Harbaugh and I think Stoops is a better college option.

If we get either of those guys it would be exceedingly good and we would finally challenge for the Big Ten crown and perhaps other post season accolades.

I believe you're correct, good sir.  Probably should've been "either of these three" vs. those. (or one of these three) After a quick google search of grammar nazi, this was my favorite - even though my original post wasn't due to a typo but rather my poor English 260 GSI in the basement Angell Hall circa 2001. (Can't blame me, nobody blames themselves for anything in 2014)

"I wasn't and english major ... ."  The only thing that surprises me is that I didn't type those words in a critique of someone else's writing.  It's 100% the sort of thing I'd do!

I wasn't an English major either (hah!), but you're right - it should be "any of those" if there are more than two options.

/reviews own reply to ensure there are no typos - likely fails/

Other than the article I read that he would like to return to Michigan with his family and retire as the Michigan Head Coach. It has been pretty quiet, almost too quiet.

We need to save all of the comments about Mullen and how everybody wants him. That way when he goes 3-9 his 1st year, we can all come to an agreement that he probably wasn't a good hire.
