CC: JH Update

Submitted by KC Wolve on
Jay Glazer tweeted that even if the Niners win the SB, JH won't be back. Now I know several other NFL teams will go after him, and this probably isn't even true, but at least UM may have a shot.

Sorry no linky. On phone and don't know how to do that anyway.

Both teams are likely to make the playoffs, which means their teams will not let them talk to anyone, NFL or college. It would be a distraction and give the coach leverage against both parties. Even if they did let us, the coaches only possible answer is "I can't talk now because I'm coaching a playoff team." (And if they did give us a different answer they're not the guys we want anyway.) If either team goes deep, we won't have a chance at them until well after most other coaches are available. That makes it hard to land one.

He wins. His college players love him. End of story. If he clashes with other egotists, who cares. Come on. Anyone who claims they don't want Harbaugh because of personality reasons should just keep rooting for Hoke to stay on. And therefore keep rooting to never be good (but recruit guys who aren't felons but who nonetheless would love JH equally).

I'm going to throw in a couple additional reasons why John Harbaugh may be the next Michigan coach....

1. I think Jim wants to remain in the NFL and there will be a good handful of teams seeking his services when he is released from SF. John may decide to leave so there is no longer that brother versus brother.

2. John is still competitive and adding a college football national championship to his super bowl win will be untouchable bragging rights at the old family gathers (Crean and Jim H.).

3. He is in the Walsh coaching tree -- Walsh coached college after his retirement from the NFL.

4. The main reason that I hold out hope -- he was born in a college coaching family. It is in their blood and sometimes it is nice to return to your father's roots.

Come back to college John, you left too soon!

The likelihood that he would come here is slim, but "Head Coach, Michigan" has to at least be ON his decision tree. If Brandon and Hoke are fired. If he is really tired of SF ownership/management. If he is really tired of NFL players' attitude. If the offer from Michigan was competitive, financially, with regard to the NFL offers he would also receive.

You better pray he takes both of his coordinators too...because they're 2 of the best in the business. Roman and Fangio.

In fact, I'd be worried to have Harbaugh without either one of those guys.
