I know this doesn't address the issue of practice hours, but IMO, quantitative analysis is unneccessary.

I have to agree that this was a fair question for Rich Rod's supporters to ask.  The whole practice time fiasco was a genuine tough break that did a lot to hold this team back over the last couple of seasons, and now that the penalty is near running out, it's certainly realistic to expect that the team's performance will improve as they go back to a full practice schedule.  I think we all agree that whatever Rodriguez' faults might be he got a raw deal on this one.

I'm inclined to think that Rodriguez needs to go, and I find a lot of the rationales for keeping him around weak, but there is a legitimate argument for giving the guy one more year and this is a big part of it.

I was actually planning on writing something up on this later today, but I'll just throw my 2 cents in here. In my opinion one of the reasons that the team seemed to go backward was the lack of practice time and the loss of a coach. Other teams  just had more time to get better than we did so it looked like we moved backword. And you have to remember that we didn't just lose the time imposed by the NCAA, but alot of the 'extra voluntary' things that other teams have their athletes do. Michigan just can't afford to risk doing anything extra at all because Sharp, Rosenberg and co. are basically sitting outside Al Glick Field House with a stop watch hoping to catch Michigan practicing to much.
