CC: Harbaugh: "Leaders eat last"

Submitted by lilpenny1316 on

This is tweet from Ryan Sakamoto, a 49ers beat guy.  It's a quote from Harbaugh on NFL Network today discussing the HC opening.

#49ers Harbaugh on Michigan job via NFL Network: "Leaders eat last. My number one priority is winning football games."

Sounds cryptic.  Just wanted to throw the quote out there to see what it means.  Warped minds should definitely chime in.

Here's a link to a 49ers fansite with quote: http://ninerfans.com/49ers-jim-harbaugh-on-michigan-job-leaders-eat-las…

apparently my cousins sisters brothers girfriend had dinner at a restaurant and sat close enough to Harbaugh to hear their conversation a few nights ago.  Long story short, she overhears him ordering his food.  Then the waiter says, "Would you like some corn with your meal, sir?". To which Jim relplies, "No, but I'll take some maize" And then gave the waiter a huge wink.  And then apparently waited for everyone else to finish their food before he took a bite... apparently

It's probably indirectly intended as a criticism of the toxic environment being fostered by the 49ers front office.  Hopefully he comes to the realization that these types of egos are commonplace in NFL front offices and don't occur at the same level with college administrators, and thus coaching at Michigan will be a much more positive work experience.

Excerpt from an article about Harbaugh's Leadership Traits:

"Harbaugh was so committed to winning at USD that 49ers quarterbacks coach and good friend Geep Chryst said, 'They had to calm him down at times. He was running the program like it was Michigan.'"

Clearly Jim has been preparing for this for a long time.

It's happening.

Full quote is self-explanatory:

"As I’ve said, as a principal, I don’t talk about any other job other than the one that I have. I’ve answered this question many times, even recently… so you know exactly where my priorities are.

I get this from the Marines–leaders eat last. My No. 1 priority is winning football games. Second priority is the welfare of our players, our coaches, all our staff, the welfare of our team.

And lastly is my own personal professional future."

This tedious practice of overanalyzing every Harbaugh word is getting us nowhere.  We clearly need to start playing the sound bites backwards to reveal their secret meaning.

i think we all need to turn off the internet for a while.  if jim happens, it will be at least two weeks.  at this rate most on here (including myself) will have lost their jobs and personal relationships with all this obsession!

with the dog and the cat.

They ate first, and this leader ate last.

So I'm like Jimmy in that way, I guess.

Sometimes I was really hungry, too.

This has nothing to do with Michigan. This is a military tradition, to ensure the welfare of those you are charged with leading.

I never encountered a time when food was scarce enough to worry about not having enough to go around. I think this is more of a tradition, although there were a few times when by time I had a chance to eat, something would cut my meal short or out all together.

Harbaugh's statement had nothing to do with Michigan and everything to do with his current players.
