CC: Is Gus Malzahn the Mystery Candidate?

Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
If what Cowherd is saying is correct, Gus Malzahn makes a lot of sense. No one, outside of random names being thrown around (which is a favorite hobby of us fine folk here at mgoblog), has brought up Malzahn. Cowherd seems to be quite fond of Malzahn, and has even gone so far as to say he would end the Saban dynasty. I could make a logical argument that Cowherd could be connected to those around Malzahn; especially his agent, given how much positive publicity Cowherd gives freely. Malzahn has a low buyout, and would essentially be a cure-all for the Michigan offense.

Relax. No one was making light of what he did. This whole dynamic of trying to figure out who the next coach is has gotten to be ridiculous. This, the ridiculous mention of someone currently in prison who will be there for the remainder of his time on this Earth

Gus can run anything anywhere. His first success as HS coach was running a Wing-T. When he left Springdale he was throwing 80% of the time. His first season at Tulsa was if I recall something like 170/270 run/ground yardage split. Next season with weaker thrower at QB Gus turned it around to 270/170. Whatever we have he can score with.

I highly doubt Cowherd's mystery man is Gus. But if it is, and he's gettable? Yes, we want him.

I'm LINKING Stoops.

I think stoops is open-minded and affable enough to go from intense game manager to Bobby Bowden style figurehead without Michigan missing a beat, to bring in sharp coordinators without being threatened by them and establish a twenty-year rein of terror. Read his wikipedia page, too.

His QBs at Tulsa were not really scramblers, and honestly they weren't even all that highly recruited. They put up record numbers passing to wide open receivers thanks to an offense that used a lot of short screens and a good running game to open up a deep passing game with receivers in single coverage. None of his Tulsa QBs got serious NFL looks but they all put up insane numbers. Now that I think about it, he designed an offense to work with Newton which also excels with Marshall, but before then he didn't have those types of athletes at QB. And for the record, I think there's at least a decent chance this is the mystery candidate (if the report is real) and I am stoked about even rumors Malzahn could be wearing Maize and Blue. It would be a knockout hire ... far better than RR and we may even get Muschamp to come with as DC.

why do I click, what is wrong with me?

It's COLIN COWHERD. If I farted on a napkin it would give just as relevant an insight as him.

I'm gonna go sit in time out.

Does that include Muschamp or other elite tier DC? Auburn D suxx! Also - they oversign, have no entry standards to speak of and still fudge that, and when they were accused of paying Cam Newton they could barely be bothered to refute it. I'm not sure he's a perfect fit, but our O would be among the best!
