Didn't we have one of these already this morning?

If not Harbaugh, Miles. Proven track record, Michigan ties, will be competent almost immediately, solidify recruiting class, and if he stays for 4-5 years, opportunity to build a replacement from within based on his solid track record with coaching trees at Ok St, LSU, etc.
He's not a bionic man, but he's a damn fine tournequet. (sp?)

Michigan ties are unimportant. Why do we still profess it as a factor in our coaching search?

Because it's not a bad thing?

Thanks for including Tom Herman. I'm of the opinion that if you can't get a proven winner in his prime like JH, the next best move is to go with an up-and-comer with offensive bona fides and good recruiting acumen. I think Dan Mullen would be a fine pick too, but better in my opinion to pick a rising star in Herman than a fading one in Miles.

Really surprised to see Miles beating Mullen so badly in this poll.

All of the time and energy put into CC is admittedly very interesting and fun to read. But it is sort of missing a key point. Various names can be bandied about but the key factor is not whether "we" (the Michigan AD department, Regents, President, UM athletic community, fans and supporters - a very broad "we") but whether this person is interested in the UM.
If it is well known that coach X has a clause written into their contract stating that the contract can be unilaterally ended if the coach is offered the chance to be the HC at the University of Michigan, then it makes a lot of sense to be publicly bantering the name about (this is what was I believe writen into Lou Holtz's contract to allow him to jump at the Notre Dame job) but frankly it doesn't sound like anyone has that sort of clause built in for Michigan.

Other: Gary Patterson. He's at least expressed an interest in coming here (a few years ago). He has a really good track record and would fit our personnel.

Same here. He was my personal fave to replace RR. A defensive-minded coach whose offenses are putting up nearly 50 per game. Plus I bet he'd relish the chance to coach in the same league with his buddy Jerry Kill.

Patterson runs a defense (4-2-5) based almost entirely on speed (not size) and a spread-to-run HUNH offense.
I like Patterson and would be satisfied with the hire...but he does NOT fit our current personnel.

Gus Malzahn gets my vote.
He's only making like $3.8 million, so it wouldn't exactly be difficult to pry him away from Auburn. I know some people have misgivings about him being shady but purely from a football side of things, I'm all in.
My next choice would be Mullen and then Sumlin.

You keep saying you're going to post these results and continue to push the date back. This is worse than a Jameis Winston hearing.

In the other two polls, results have been posted. Miles won both.
I will post the results of this poll tomorrow. Poll closes end of today.

If not Harbaugh then I lean Miles. We should have had him back in 2008. Better late than never I guess.

Gus Malzahn

I would love to get Malzahn, but I don't think there is any way Auburn lets him go. People who just look at his salary and say, "We could get him!" should take a look at the Hugh Freeze situation.
Auburn isn't letting him go, and I don't think he'd like to come north anyway. But if we could get him and add a top-notch DC...I would be overjoyed.

Spurrier seems to speak highly of him (it?). It might be worth taking a flyer on this:

for Todd Graham? Heis record isn't spectacular but it is pretty good and has coached at some bad football schools (Pitt, Tulsa) big on defense and runs a high tempo offense.
