As I was scrolling through your comment, I managed to think of 69 new pics you could have for your instead of your "thing" of a picture. I finally got to the end and saw -6. I laughed.
CC: Does Harbaugh's inaction tell us something?
Harbaugh leave the Baltimore Ravens? That makes no sense.
I like to read every thread about coaching changes -- speculation, evidence, ideas, worries, heresay. I am not opposed in any way whatsoever to this. What else are you going to do until bowl time? Bring on the CC threads I say.
And another thing: on the way home from work today I am going to buy a huge vat of rum to drink with my eggnogg. But I will only add a little to one glass of eggnogg, then drink the remainder of the rum neat.
It tells us that he hasn't signed a contract with a team not named Stanford since 2006
I think it just means he is sticking to the time table he set forth where he will review his football program and his options after the entire season including the bowl game.
It pretty strongly suggests he's leaving Stanford. He's making next to no effort to dispel the rumors. Now, it isn't guaranteed that he's coming here, but I'd be very surprised at this point if he stayed there.
The other could be that he's, you know, doing his job and preparing his team for a bowl game and then will deal with everything after the season is over. This goes for both JH and DB in his "decision".
To me having to dispel rumors of where you're going to be working next year while you're currently working should not have to happen. As a member of the "internet generation" it super offends me that peoples attention spans and constant feening for information gets in the way of real life and prevents people from living and doing their jobs. Having to answer the same question four times a day for months on end would get old quick after day one.
Quit being five years old, and take people for their word and WAIT for things to happen...or not happen.
EDIT: I'm not "yelling" at a person in general, just the whole situation including and especially the media.
Can someone provide a link to that post from earlier this year where some dude hilariously said that everything would be telling? I can't even remember what the hell the topic was, he just listed every possible action and said it would be telling.
EDIT: I think it had something to do with Jonathan Hankins
Yes, but what who knows.
Brian's sponsors must like the CC threads.
Yes, it tells us volumes. You just have to be able to read between the [nonexistant] lines.
While I hate the "FAIL" thing; just wanted to let you know that your good buddy is giving you a +1
but for the record I am not a fan of harbaugh because I think he's arrogant, plus that whole "Michigan's academics under Bo sucked" thing that everyone convieniently forgot about.
Not everyone has forgotten that.
You're fucking with me, right? Eh, I'd say some snarky stuff but it's of little worth. I shall miss the bitter disagreements. Another +1
Fair enough. I conducted my intelligent analysis a while back, but some people called me things like "a fucking idiot", said I wasn't a "true fan", and some even wanted to bet me that RR would be the next coach! Sorry...couldn't resist. That's all. I'll sit back and allow the unification to progress.
Harbaugh would hardly unite the fanbase. He would only make things worse. He is, rhetorically, a divisive figure, and he would upend our offensive recruiting. It would be a mess. We will officially become ND.
You're kidding, right? We're totally different. Our colors are maize and blue - not blue and gold, our stadium is a bowl, and we are in the midwest. So there.
It's like someone burst the MGoBubble and you've seen the light!!! You even break it down more...clarifying that a coach need not adhere religiously to one offensive set. Is this April 1? I know I said I'd stop, but this is stuff I'd been getting crushed for saying for months! Hell, if we can see eye to eye, the unification will be prompt and thorough.
He coached at The University of San Diego not SDSU, where he led them to two straight Pioneer League titles.
You really think that he'd "upend our offensive recruiting"? Does it matter to you that we have lots of common recruits with Stanford? How about the fact that JH is doing extremely well recruiting for Stanford (not a traditional destination for top players)? As for the ND comment...um, yeah, right.
With your constant focus on the offense, I am convinced you are the chick in the MZone video:
guy who says perestroika comrade?
magically bring anyone back togther
I was like "how did I miss this on Monday (Dec. 13th) and then I realized the article in from 2009.
Coaches say more in their pauses than they say in their words.
I learned that on the streets. In the ghetto in fact.
Not signing the extension really isn't unusual, RR let his contract sit for 10 months before signing (3/4 of the way through his first season which wasn't going to well).
Sometimes there is an immediate signing. Miles is a good example, but I think that gun to his head may have helped.
.. tell us something about the coaching situation at Michigan?
Harbaugh has also been at Stanford for 4 years, which is a bit longer than the 3.3 year average for Stanford coaches. This article describes the flight of Stanford coaches (though it doesn't mean he's a lock for Michigan):
Me seeing a CC post right now is similar to Peter Griffin whenever he was told a certain joke. Im running out of underwear so can we please stop.
that noone seems to be picking up on.
As we should all be well aware of at this time, in addition to Brandon being former CEO of dominoes, he is also an avid fan of cartoons of the eighties, specifically Voltron. We all know that in Voltron, the cats were never strong enough to beat the enemy alone, and required to work together to create Voltron to whoop some ass.
I'm pretty sure that Brandon is assembling 5 coaches to coach his team. Here's the supposed breakdown;
Harbaugh: Coaches "Michigan Man" stuff
RR: Coaches the offense
Frank Beamer: Special teams and Beamer Ball
Nick Saban: Defense
Gerg: Tickle Monster (I think its a new position this year)
They work together to create the head coach "Voltron"
I'm really suprised that this obvious theory has yet to been pointed out despite its obviousness.
Does the State of Michigan have a public law that requires positions to be posted for X number of days for public employment? What I am trying to say is that many people think or assume that on Jan 2nd that Brandon is just going to walk out and say Rich is gone, Jim will be here by 5, thanks.
I know at least in Missouri, you have to "search" coaching jobs, even if you have a candidate lined up. In fact, most public employment hirings require that you interview a minority, or rank more like it, who your minority candidates were. We do that to get through gender equity.
Maybe Brandon can do just that, say Rich is out, Jim is in, but it seems like there would have to be some kind of process??
I don't know how it works, but it would be a little strange that the public employment stuff would apply since the athletic department is completely self sufficient. Not sure if that factors in or not, but it's not like taxpayers are paying Rodriguez's salary.
I know UM posted the job when Lloyd retired. It was kicking around in the Haloscan threads.
That he needs more fiber in his diet....clear up that inaction right away.
I'll go for the Soviet analogy someone else used on a thead like this. Because it somehow seems fitting as I am reading a book about the waning days of the Cold War at the moment. Well General Shotemov is standing behind the Party Secretary, that clearly means he is the next in sucession. But there is that incident he had in Omsk, that might hurt his chances. But that was so long ago, he made amends for that. Still, an F-15 getting that close to the Soviet Union. Well, you know....
DB is saying nothing JH is saying nothing we are wondering about RR and being hung out there till after the bowls. How about this for a chain reaction Stewart announces all of a sudden he is retiring after WV bowl game and Casteel is signing an extension. After the Bowl JH to Michigan RR back to WV everybody’s happy. Hey this is all getting rather stupid now why not be funny.
Are you trying to say that Harbaugh's inaction is....telling? telling indeed
He will just retire and play Super Tecmo Bowl 18 hrs a day!
the greatest video game ever
1) I don't think it's uncommon for coaches to let contract negotiations/ actually signing a contract linger for a while.
2) He could be waiting to see what NFL jobs become available\
However, I do agree that his silence on this issue most likely means he's interested if Michigan comes knocking.
Harbaugh DOES have a contract through 2014 already. Have we considered that his inaction is because he doesn't know if he wants to keep coaching Stanford that long? It doesn't have to be 2011. There are 3 whole years after it that Harbaugh can wait for...
Huh? The new extension probably has a raise but in exchange a poison-pill buyout to leave for the Michigan job. He could still sign the contract if he wanted to coach there next year and leave after next season....
Who knows? Only JH and DB for sure right now.....
Tells us he has not yet signed a contract extension offered....Why he has not yet signed it, only JH knows for sure....
It's so simple!
Harbaugh clearly must becoming to Michigan because he has not signed the contract.
But, Harbaugh clearly cannot be coming to Michigan because he is coaching his bowl game and has said he is staying.
However, RR has not received an endorsement or extension from DB, so clearly Harbaugh is coming to Michigan.
But it is inconceivable that DB would wait that long and leave recruits hanging so clearly Harbaugh is not coming to Michigan.
They have given everything away! I know where Harbaugh is going!
This is absolutely the best post I have ever read about the Harbaugh or Rodriguez question. You my friend have nailed it!
ESPN Guy, “Not a day goes by that your name is not talked about for an NFL job, or the Michigan job. Preparing for a big game, how do deal with all rumors out there from the media?”
JH,”We just focus on the football game, I would say I have a duel focus, the Orange Bowl and the birth of my fifth child.”
Great coach speak , but why don’t they ask him, “Has Team X been in contact with you?”
And he says the same thing every time. "I only talk about the job I have. My dad told me to just coach my own team."
